Scotty Kilmer, I have a 2000 Chevy C2500, GMT400, with a 5.7 Vortec and a NV4500. It's beat up, but I paid $500.00 for it. Then $612.00 for parts to rebuild the engine in my driveway. Now it has 320,000 miles. It's a gas hog, but a good solid truck. The 34 gallon tank makes me cry at the pump.

I had a 2014 Malibu as personal use company vehicle so the maintenance was done by our fleet schedule which was oil changes every 5000 miles. The original engine and automatic transmission were replaced at 700,000 miles only because a fail safe thermostat failed closed and blew the head gasket and I could tell the transmission was on its last leg. Our Family owned a 2003 Impala and a 2007 Malibu both of them were driven up to 300,000 miles when sold used, still running good with no major repairs. But they both had the bullet proof 3.8L V6. Amazingly enough, on the freeway they got 30 MPG or a little better. I am still driving our 1999 Silverado, (first year of the new body style), 3 door EXT CAB, 2500, 4 X 4 LS and it is coming up on 400,000 miles, it still runs and tows like new. Scotty, I've watched your videos for many many years now and have used your advise for maintenance on vehicles which has paid off in the need to not have to purchase new vehicles every 2 or 3 years! Our Silverado was purchased in late 1998 and next year it will be "on the road" for 25 years. BTY, our Harley Davidson is a 1992 Fatboy and it's still "on the road" after 30 years. Keep up your great videos for the young people out there to learn "common sense" automotive maintenance.

I've got a 2007 LTZ Impala & it runs pretty good. It's got 170k miles on it (City miles in Detroit, the stock Rims eroded away lol) & the AC finally went out recently. Biggest repairs on it were the Throttle Body, Front Pedal assembly, Solenoid Valve Assembly, Starter & one of the Calipers had to be replaced. My mom also drove it off the freeway into an embankment when it had 60k. No frame damage or anything I've noticed wrong with 110k miles later lol. Love this generation of Impala. Great commuters!

The federal reguations require 40 mpg manufacturer average in 2026. They must go electric sell enough hybrids to keep profitable trucks in production. If manufacturers are forced to only sell trucks that are electric, its likely bankruptcy. Some pickup truck owners will install new crate gasoline motors in their older trucks before they will buy an electric pickup truck that costs $70,000. It might be like the American version of Cubans keeping older cars on the road.

Scotty, back in the 80s H. Ross Perot was on the Board at GM. He kept complaining how bad the Oldsmobile's were, He bought them locally in Dallas. The other board members said their GM cars were very high quality. After some investigation Ross discovered the executive cars were practically hand built and checked very carefully for defects. Ross said you guys ottta visit your dealers incognito to see what junk we are selling... Of course none of them did and Ross eventually got the hell away from them.

It was a northern car and I moved south with it but it's been reliable and a solid truck. GM needs to get back to making their vehicles like they did in late 90's early 2000's. They had solid trucks and sedans back then. Those Vortecs from that era were bulletproof...could easily 200k with minimal issues out of them and if maintained right they are 400k engines. Changed synthetic oil every 8000 miles. The one problem with the first 2 were rear end problems. I delivered freight all over the U.S. Beefed up the springs and used heavy duty shocks. Was rated for 1500 lbs but I went over this many times. I think that caused to much torque on the rear end. Had plywood on the floor to put skids in. One skid had to go sideways. Rear cargo doors opened all the way to fork in the skids. comfortable and reliable. I cannot find a new suv or van that can replace an Astro.

It's a shame they discontinued Saturn. They were great cars! I had a 96 SL2 5 speed manual. It had fiberglass panels that never rusted or dented. I had 316k on it. Should've kept it

I've had 3 of those, all standards, one was my ex's 96 5 SPD SL , one was my 97 5SPD SL1, and my wife and I had a 99 5 SPD SW2, that one was the only 5 SPD Saturn wagon I've ever seen with leather. We loved them all.

I bought a used 2012 Impala years ago that had 48000 miles. Today it has 225,000 miles now and it runs great. I had to have the alternator replaced and the wheel bearings but that's about it. The big problem I have had with ot is the clear coat is coming off.

@@thedirtybubble9613 the 2 ongoing issues I have is the clear coat coming off on the trunk and the issue with the anti brake light coming on. The anti brake issue is tied in with the wiring that runs from it I believe. We have taken it to mechanics that replace the bearings and a year later the problem resurfaces. Car runs good and we just turn off the traction control.

The fact that the AC doesn't work means it's worth more on an older truck. It means that that engine hardly gets over worked. I would buy that 96 Chevy in a heartbeat.

Scotty you are the man, Legend! I enjoy all your videos. As young girl my grandfather and dad wanted me to know about cars. I loved it! I was a nurse for 38 years, I was brutally assaulted by a open heart patient, 4 back surgeries in 20 years, unfortunately, I no longer could do it. I would not mind to take a road trip, the only problem is I will have to make frequent stops, because of my back pain. I hope you can keep me! I take my car to Jiffy lube, everyb3-5 miles. I never buy there up sales.

I like these longevity videos. I think a big reason why here in NY people don't give a care about maintenance is because the vehicles will dissappear right in front of your eyes from rust because the roads are so heavily salted in the winter.

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado z71 with the 5.3 liter. I bought it new and it now has 290,000 miles. It had the brake lines replaced recently, I had the water pump and alternator replaced a couple years ago. The truck runs great, the only thing is the clear coat was coming off and I had to have the hood repainted. It has never been garaged.

My wife has a 2007 Chevy HHR that we purchased new, it now has 262,000 miles on it and the engine still runs and sounds like it's new. I Change the oil when the the oil monitoring system indicates 10 to 15 % oil life left. Only use Mobile 1 synthetic oil as well since new.

My truck is a 2000 C2500, the last year GM made that body style I believe. It's got 220,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2002 with 76k miles. It doesn't hurt making a repair when needed because I haven't made a payment on it since 2007. It runs like a clock, no leaks, uses a half quart between oil changes at 5k miles. The ac doesn't work so I'm replacing the whole system for $500 doing it myself. AC Delco parts.
