Just two lights, a key and hair light. I used the Aputure 300D MKII with Light Dome III + 40 Degree Grid and the Aputure MT Pro with 45 Degree Grid. The interviews were in a tiny dental lobby, so a small footprint was important to maintain. I had 15 minutes to setup the lighting and 20 minutes to setup camera/sound.The space had a big window that played heavy in my choice of my shooting direction. I used the key light to motivate that big window and almost replicate the light coming in from it. The window and door allowed enough light in to create a great fill. I had two Sony A7IV’s for camera set to S-Cinetone with an 85mm f1.8 on the tight and the 50mm f1.2 as the wide. I had the Sennheiser 416 as the boom mic going into a Zoom F3, then into camera as a backup. What are your thoughts on the lighting and the frames? Do you still grab a dome for simple interviews or b-roll?

Putting the false color in the video is a real MVP move. I’ve done that so many times on my own when looking at others works. Saves me time if it’s in the video 😂

I think I would have closed the big window blinds , which is flattening out the image , and relied more on the soft key / neg fill , to get some contrast . I usually expose S Cinetone around 60, the pink color on FC , based on an Alister Chapman article ,when SC came out , apparently its a lower skin tone than vanilla REC709 800, and 70 is getting into the roll off curve.

awesome video, as always !! THe false color lut helps a ton for sure, i'm mostly using false colors for exposure (I always start with it) so having a clear indication in your videos, helps a lot !

In future videos I would love a quick note on if you’re using nds on your cameras. Love the setup, I’m typically at 50mm on my wides and 85mm on my close shots too.

When needed, I grab my ND's. Usually I have the FX6's in play, so that is an easy task. That is a great combo for sure. But now I play a lot with 50mm and 35mm. Thanks for watching.

Next time think about adding a 4x4 floppy as a negative fill... this can help give you more shape to your faces especially when your in a small office that has bounce coming from the walls.

In my opinon, I would have had the key light come more from the right side pf the frame for a more natural look. It would have matched the background window better imo and also created more contrast on the face.

Nice simple set up and great breakdown. I'm curious why the height difference between the wide and the tight? I guess I don't have a formulated "why" I always set them at the same height.

So we shoot in 4K and client delivers in 1080p. Since it is a tight window for interviews, once we get going, we can’t stop. I am setting everything up and conducting the interviews. The subjects like to change the way they sit and end up settling throughout the interview.

@@PDMokryI'm asking about the camera height, not critiquing your work or people slouching. When you were showing cameras used, you had the tight camera tripod significantly higher than the wide. Just curious your thought process?

how do you know if the person should look directly into the camera or off to the side ? Like if someone is doing an informative video they should look directly at camera right ? and interview and Netflix type doc they should look off to the side?

Thanks for the video, Piotr. Can I ask what mic and recorder you used? Also, do you use the f/1.8 versions of the 50 and 85mm lenses? And any idea what f/stop you were shooting at? And finally, about what power level were you running the aperture 300D II at? Thanks in advance.

I used the Zoom F3 for 32bit float. The 85mm was a 1.8 and the 50mm was the 1.2. I was at f2.2 for both cameras. The 300D MKII was only at 20% or under.

I love the MTPro but I have had the internal battery die on me too many times while rolling. Sometimes I run a Vmount battery with a USB-C cable to give it some juice. I prefer to use a quasar crossfade tube I can run to house power with a stinger. If there is more budget I rent titan tubes they have way better battery life.

  • @marinrealestatephotography

You want the boom arm / grip arm to extend in the direction that gravity will pull it TIGHTER. Right now, he set it up so that gravity is pulling it loser. With a big fixture or modifier it would make a difference. Usually if you stand in back of the c- stand and look along the arm, you want the knucke on the right hand side.
