How to light a fire in a Jotul F 500 V3 Oslo wood stove

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Watch how easy it is to light a fire in our new EPA 2020-approved Jotul F 500 V3 Oslo.
Two time Vesta award winner, including Best in Show and Best New Technology, the Jøtul F 500 V3 Oslo, has quickly become one of the most recognized wood stoves on the market. Utilizing patent pending Jøtul Fusion™ Technology, the F 500 V3 Oslo was able to combine the best aspects of a typical non-catalytic wood stove with ground breaking high flow combustor technology to create a clean burning wood stove that operates without the need for a bypass. The absence of a combustor bypass allows the F 500 V3 Oslo to operate in clean burn mode 100% of the time.

I have a Jotul Oslo, have used it to heat my home for over ten years. Pretty much continuous burn. As long as you empty the ash pan daily there are no problems with. I have it inspected annually by a fireman who also cleans my chimney. Works great for us. Also, I prefer to start the fire top down.

I just started a fire in hotel after cleaning and repainting outside. I wanted to test outdoors to cure paint . Problem: fire would go out if I closed the door. Any hints on what I am doing wrong. Stove is outside. No stove pipe attached. All wood , kindling is dry. I opened lever below, and also tried it closed. Still fire is snuffed out in seconds after closing door.

This guy is from Jotul?? He's not selling this stove. I've never seen someone make such an ordeal of lighting a fire. My lord.

I have been having an issue with a lot of smoke coming out when I load that stove. This was not an issue for the first 4 months of use. I did have a lot of creosote that had fallen down the pipe. I took the pipe off the back and cleaned it out and had the chimney cleaned. It seems that there are multiple levels in the back of the stove, could I have missed some stuff that is still clogging it up? I thought that a 500 degree fire would burn it out but still having a lot more smoke come out.

It shouldn't be doing this if you crack the ashtray door while burning you should see a torch

These are about as environmental friendly as burning ethanol. Sure they might be more "efficient" because they burn wood at a lower temperature, but it takes you twice as long to heat your house. It's like driving a car at 35 miles an hour is more "efficient" than driving it at 65 but it takes you twice as long to get there...

Nothing wrong with this Jotule design....you just have to have the proper dampner plate installed and have a good coal bed....we start ours in November 1st and it doesnt stop until end of March....temps range from 300-500 depending

Why doesn't jøtul produce the f500 in bed with ash? The stove would have longer autonomy and would do more heat. The f118 being in bed with ash works better than the f500

Bottom up burn? Why not a top down burn. Good grief. I use about 1/10 of that paper using a top down burn. And I can light it and walk away for half an hour. Then only come back, to lower the damper, no need to add more wood. And can again not come back for another hour. Seriously. Try a top down burn. Far superior.

I've been using wood heat for over 40 years to heat my house. 2 years ago we added an addition and required a second wood stove. I bought one of these jotuls at my local wood stove store, mainly because it was the only one they had under 1500.00$. Immediately after using it I realized these things are extremely dangerous. The lip on the stove is only about 2 in tall, if you do not clean the stove out about every 3 days hot coals will literally fall out of the stove when you open the door all over your floor. There is also very little clearance between the bottom of the door and the very small ashtray that's provided with the stove. A piece of hot coal any bigger than a marble will cause you to not be able to shut the door again, which is super exciting when a half burnt chunk of wood falls out of the door when you open it. These stove might work for some Ambience every once in awhile for a romantic evening but I certainly would not suggest one for a primary heating source that will have a fire in it for months at a time. Unless of course you don't mind letting your fire go out every couple days to clean it. These stoves dont draw worth a damn because of all the smog regulations and efficiency requirements. Just like driving a car at 35 miles an hour is more "efficient" than 65 miles an hour, burning wood at a lower temperature is more "efficient" then at a Higher temperature but it will not heat your house as fast and sometimes cannot keep up with heat loss. Just like driving a car at 35 miles an hour might be more "efficient" it takes you twice as long to get there. You can help this out by removing the afterburner in the top of the wood box and leaving your door slightly cracked until your fire is good and hot.

Then after lighting be prepared for smoke to enter the room from the ash box. And unless you open the door in super slow motion be prepared for smoke to exit the front. And if you don't keep the door cracked open, there won't be enough air to keep the fire burning. Terrible designed stove. When is does work, it doesn't put out as much heat as other stoves I've used. Nothing but aggravation since day one. Avoid Jotul stoves.
