I just started a fire in hotel after cleaning and repainting outside. I wanted to test outdoors to cure paint . Problem: fire would go out if I closed the door. Any hints on what I am doing wrong. Stove is outside. No stove pipe attached. All wood , kindling is dry. I opened lever below, and also tried it closed. Still fire is snuffed out in seconds after closing door.

Thank you X100. I was about to spend $150 on a new remote control or $200 on a service visit. As someone mentioned below in the comments, this is one of the most useful one minute videos on KZread. May the force be with you.

Ames, No offense but a brush does nothing to get the fly ash IN the combustor. I have never had a piece of paper in my stove, yet my combustor regularly is full of fly ash. Difficult to clean, needs to be cleaned too often, and causes poor draft. Do you have a more realistic way to clean the combustor?

This is, hands-down, the most immediately useful KZread video I've seen in years. Identified and fixed a problem that had me seething and, like others here, ready to buy a new remote.

If my pilot goes out when I release the pilot push button then, you would have to have someone hold in the pilot button while you take readings, right? What is the likely culprit when this happens the thermopile or the thermostat?

My sincere thanks for this video. As with most everyone else who commented, I spent hours trying to figure it out before you saved me. Simply inexcusable that the manual doesn't address this or anything even related to it.

The EPA has done the same thing with wood stoves that they have done with diesel engines-ruin them.

I agree that a stove with a combustor is more complicated than non combustor stoves. I've had both. Granted the V3 has a simpler combustor but its still a combustor stove. I couildn;t be more satisfied with my old model Oslo 500. Very good at keeping smoke to non existant when I check what is coming out of the chimney. I can roast a turkey on it and it heats my whole house up and downstairs. The combustor is another added "improvement" that is not needed in my opinion although it is "politically correct" in this modern society.

Jotul has been a complete disappointment to us in refusing to service our wood stove, that has an oxygen intake issue since it was installed by their distributor. They were very enthusiastic about taking our money(and much of it;) yet they've failed miserably to back their claims & promises, in refusing to service or to even attempt to investigate & determine what the problem is. The're are surely reliable company's out there & products , up to nowJotul is & has proven not to be one of the honorable mentions. Yet in all fairness, If there's a change of heart on their part? I'll definitely update this (as winter approaches). Yet at this point it seems unlikely from them, i.e or from their distributor by there lack of concern & condesending tone & lack of support & professionalism

I have a small problem in heating. I have noticed that the heat tranfer is not as efficient and the reburn seams to be not as effective. I have completely cleaned the combustor. I am thinking secondary air is not making it back to the reburn.

I've been a chimney sweep for quite a few years. I have a "knockoff" woodstove from Lowes, I love it. And you don't need a stinking ratchet set to clean it, or sweep its flue. You only need 2 hands like 90 percent of the stoves out there. Even the expensive free standing Napoleon has a 2 light weight baffle system which removes in about 1 minute. Done deal, ready to sweep and clean. Also, imagine how frozen those bolts inside that stove become after being exposed to thousands of degrees of heat time and again. That thing here is bs junk. Do your homework people. There's no reason to ratchet and set screw off the top of the stove. We call it an "engineering defeat". Even the "over" engineers who designed it would never want to maintain it, never mind us chimney sweeps. Shove that junk where the sun never shines. JODEL THIS.😡

The Jotul F500 Oslo (not version 3) is our second Jotul (after our old Jotul #6) since 3 years ago and we're happy with it. However, I watch the Jotul F500 Oslo on KZread and they all have very clean window. That's not the case for us. After a few hours of operation, the window turns dark gray and we can't see the fire anymore. What should we do to correct the situation? Our wood lighting is like most of those on KZread, but unlike them, with a flame that burns upwards, our flame comes back towards the glass and that's where the grey deposit (soot) builds up on the glass and prevents us from seeing the fire. Thank you for your suggestions.

I had a Jotul stove in the house for decades. Never a problem. Installed a new Jotul two years ago that has the combustor. Trust me you want no part of a stove with such emissions equipment. Constant headache. Very difficult to not have smoke coming into the room when you open the door to load wood. Combustor gets clogged easily. As always emission control equipment makes things more expensive more troublesome and more finicky. Really has taken the enjoyment out of heating the house with firewood.

same problem.. had the older 500 and loved it. The new one is a constant smoke fight. The moved the older 500 to the basement thinking I would put the new version in the living room. I burn dry hardwood and it works great for about 2 weeks. The combustor get clogged and smokes the room. Considering that I use this stove 24/7 for the winter months.. it is a pain.
