In this video we answer the questions: How can you level up your game development skills as quickly as possible? Is it possible to double or even triple your progress?
It's definitely possible! We've been working away at our game every single day for many months and have experienced SEVERAL "level ups" in that time.
We share everything that we've learned through our own experience as game developers to help you skip the struggle and level up your development skills as quickly as possible.
With lots of humbleness, authenticity, vulnerability, and a TON of compassion for our fellow devs!
If you're new to our channel, we're Brandon & Nikki from Sasquatch B Studios. We sold our house to start our game studio, and work full time on building our business and making our game, Veil of Maia.

Dr. Sasquatch has a session every Monday... Lol seriously though thanks man! Glad you liked it. Your newest devlog was killer btw
Fully agree, I caught myself that I want to prove that I'm able to do anything on my own without any help
I was on my phone while watching this video..... I put it down after you said "your phone is not your friend" lol really loving your channel and wisdom :)
I feel bless. I live in an area where phone service is basically non exsistent so when I work on my game I feel it is just me and my project and the amount of focus I have is incredible.

Yea...I have to pretend my phone doesn't exist. It really helps
Great video, finding time to play games is definitely a challenge I need to address. I feel like I should be doing game dev but you are actually right its very valuable to see how others tackle problems also to see what you find fun and interesting that you can bring to your own project/s.

It's the one thing I have a lot of trouble prioritizing! It feels wrong, like I should be doing something more "productive"...it's something I have to be very aware of or I won't let myself do it.
Awesome video. Randomly found it and I didn't look for something remotely close. I'm currently a solo developer myself, about two years developing my project mostly on and off for similar reasons you mentioned. Mostly because of distractions (a parent with cancer who needed immediate attention in a matter of seconds). For the last 6 months or so I made a lot of progress even though it doesn't feel like it. Thankfully I have a mentor who was in the same situation as me and he constantly mention that my progress is good and sometimes fast. 1:22 just can't stress it enough: do listen to the experts. Work on your project, but do limit your time working so you won't burn out. Another trick I would like to add is in case your friends are also gamers like you and are your target audience. Live stream yourself working just for them, just share your screen and tell them what you're doing. They don't have to know how to code or how to draw, they joined you for chatting and give you live feedback. Tell jokes. Talk about other things. Don't even work on your project and doodle something unrelated instead. This is for your mental health and to keep you motivated. Remember that they are more eager to play your game than you even will. This brings me to another tip: if you listen to the experts or livestream to your friends - you are not working alone. You are developing alone, but not working alone and this is the important part. With that being said, I would still advice to develop with more people.

Those are great additional tips man, thanks so much for sharing!
Wife as an Artist & Animator..... can I have the genie in a bottle you had? Struck pure gold.
Great video man with really useful tips, been enjoying your content for a few weeks. I admire the sacrifices you and your wife have made to start your game dev studio.

@@sasquatchbgames I really do mean it though, I've watched tons of "game dev tips" over my time of coding. And yet I don't think anyone I watched said any of the tips you did. Well done being original!
Thank you for made this video You have inspired me a lot :)

Your videos are cool, but I don't like the silence that's occasionally broken by some sfx. I think you could try out some music, see if that works. It could give your vids a great amount of life to them. Or if you don't wanna, you could just put some white noise in.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will definitely consider that in the future!
I have to do everything myself because I don't have a cool wife or money, not because of ego ;p
