Hey guys, in this video we will show you how we diagnosed a bad down stream oxygen sensor on BMW 7 series E65 and E66. We demonstrated on a 2003 BMW 745Li downstream oxygen sensor. Ours had a P0036 Code that was gone once we replaced the oxygen sensor. The repair playlist for BMW e65 e66: bit.ly/2snnW4b

    ARG, Great vid on interpreting OBD2 live data in regards to O2 sensors. Is it a bad idea to just replace all O2 sensors together in one fell swoop? Or just do the specific O2 sensor that triggered a failure? Just recently it tripped the downstream O2 sensor. I just got a used hi-mile 2009 Camry (175,000 miles) and did a huge tuneup. Im in the mode of replacing lots of items to ensure I know the baseline health of the vehicle. -----Thanks & keep up the great work.

    Thank you for your video guys I've been dealing with this same problem on my 2005 325xi. I've changed all o2 sensors except that same one but have the new one just having a hard time getting off the old 1 to put the new 1 in, but this video has shown me exactly what I was suspecting that was happening. So I can go ahead and take the measures needed to get my car back to 💯%. Thank you for your video I was great help. Keep it up guys.

    Can an oxygen sensor be faulty without reporting an DTC? What is the best way to test it, can it be cleaned maybe? I have problems on cold start for a few seconds the idle is rough, and afterward everything is good i would say. All glow plugs are changed and the relay too. The car is E91 LCI 318D 105kw 11/09, it has only 1 oxygen sensor I would say only on the DPF, next to the temperature exhaust sensor and the pipe for pressure sensor. Thank you for the answer in advance.

    Hi guys! Question, how important is it to replace O2 sensors in pairs? Or to have the 2 upstream or downstream to be the same brand? I have a 2011 328i Xdrive and I'm replacing bank 2 sensor 2, ordered an NTK, I believe original should be Bosch. Should I just attempt to clean the working bank 1 sensor 2 so there is a better chance they will work evenly?

    It's the upstream O2 sensors (sensor 1) that are used for fuel ratio and they're supposed to go up and down on the graph between 100 and 900 mV approximately. You're looking at downstream sensors (sensor 2) which only show the catalytic converter efficiency and no, they are not supposed to go up and down and they don't control fuel ratios.

  • @chrismoss9953

    Very late reply, but my car has a catalytic converter working below threshold code, however it also occasionally has a rough idle and tends to stall the engine. Could these be related? Is it actually the sensor after the cat that’s causing issues and could it be responsible for the engine dropping out?

  • @Mickey_Bauer

    @Mickey_Bauer

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@chrismoss9953 i'm not a professional mechanic, i just do this as a hobby but yes, it's absolutely possible your catalytic converter is getting clogged and it's chocking the engine. You can test it by taking out the "upstream" O2 sensor (not the the downstream one you're getting a code for) and connecting the exhaust pressure gauge. If you don't have one you can rent it from AutoZone or just try running the engine with the upstream O2 sensor removed. (You can find YT videos about these). This will trip the check engine light and it will make a lot of noise but if your car runs smooth and no longer stalling, chances are your catalytic is bad. In extreme cases catalytic converter can even fall apart and then your engine can suck in small pieces like on my dad's Altima and it will destroy it completely. Don't ignore it, get it checked. It's also possible that you just have a bad downstream sensor and the two issues are completely unrelated. The downstream sensor are usually much cheaper than the upstream. Go with the OEM sensor in case you decide to get one but do your troubleshooting first, don't just throw parts at your car. Rock auto is a good place to get them cheaper. Do you also feel power loss when accelerating?

    Looks like a good video. But the O2 sensor you show at the beginning is not a downstream sensor but an upstream sensor. There's no way the electrical cord is that short for a downstream sensor. That is short because its an upstream.

    seriously those oxygen sensors goes bad when they age. It doesnt throw any fault codes, the car simply runs lean all the time for nothing. And you performance sucks really bad! Replacing it with a new oem one really makes the car alive again.
