    I’ve been knitting for over 60 years. Using your technique for the stair step shoulder seaming, I’ve just made the most beautiful shoulder joining ever! Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick. This method works perfectly- thank you SO much.

    Thank you so much for making this video. I am currently knitting a pieced sweater and have been looking for videos on how to seam the stairstep shoulders. You video is the best I have seen. Your video is large enough to clearly see what you are doing and your explanation is very easy to understand. Can't thank you enough! Hope I can follow your instructions on my project.

    i've been iknitting for about 60 years and have NEVER liked stair -step joins. Thank you so much! As a youngster, I ddin't understand why my mom always took her work to someone to sew the pieces togehter. I did my own, but was not happy with the outcome. That will change as of today. I just finished a twirsed stitch (Norah Gaughan) sleeveless pullover that I will now join using your video. BTW, I really enjoy all of your tutorials, even if I already know how to do something, the way you explain things always makes sense, and is straight forward....although one day I will finally be able to do an italian cast on. Can't seem to wrap my brain around that one....can't wait to show my italian knitting friend the video and ask her if it is something Italians learn when they pick up needles. (We live in Italy half time.) I taught her to knit two socks and sleeves at a time on two cirucular (or magic loop) needles, and she loved it! Knitters are always really nice people!

    You are a godsend. I am attempting to shoulder seam a cotton sweater I knit and was wondering if a person can just tighten the seaming yarn just enough to make it look like another row of stitches, or if this isn’t a stable enough join. The cotton isn’t as forgiving as other fibers and doesn’t look as good as your example. I have put this project on hold for a couple years and am determined to finish it!

    It might help to seam with something less bulky and with more "give" than cotton, but in a similar color.

    It is no more bulky than any other joining method. Try it on a swatch.

    How do you do this with a holely pattern 😢

  • @SuzanneBryan

    @SuzanneBryan

    Жыл бұрын

    That is a great question. When I am knitting something that has a hole pattern, like lace or something similar, I am very careful to avoid yarn overs near an area that will be seamed, or where stitches will need to be picked up, like around a neck, armhole, shoulder or side seam. I have made the mistake of carrying the stitch pattern to the edge, and then having big holes when I pick up stitches or seam. You will need to plan ahead, and then omit the design element that includes the yarn overs and their compensating decreases when you are within two rows or two stitches of an edge. Hope this helps.

  • @SuzanneBryan

    You will need to avoid making yarnovers near the edge. I don't make yarn overs within 2 rows or 2 stitches of an edge. Yarnovers near a seamed edge or an edge that will be picked up or knit into later, create very large holes. To avoid this, stop the stitch pattern that uses yarnovers (and their compensating decreases) when you are getting close to the edge. You will need to plan this in advance.
