Spot on! One of the only channels I've seen introduce this properly. I learned this several years ago and it's how I always do them. A shrug isn't really just shrugging your shoulders, it's a row for your traps, where you're not going up, but up and back. Will make your traps way more 3 dimensional, and my test for people is always how they immediately feel the difference. You can't just do this with heavy azz dumbbells either because you're actually doing a fuller ROM. Much lighter weight here, check your ego at the door and do it right.

Started doing version of this on the Smith Machine. I grab the bar about shoulder width and do a similar motion as shown in this video, with a bit of a shrug and a bit of a row. Nothing has blasted my traps quite like this.

I like to do it as a compound movement. I'll pair it up as the couter part of th Dip. I like to go heavy and bring my hands as high as possible elbows back and out just a little bit. Making it a great compound movement for not only traps but also shoulders, bíceps, forearms, core... Etc. 👍💪🙏

You all are doing a great job. One suggestion from me would be that you all make different videos. This channel has 10 videos of the same topic by different persons. Don't get me wrong I understand but whenever I see all options i just select Sal's videos only because it confuses a hell lot to me whose vid I should watch. Y'all can spread the content among all the team.

I did that for years, I even advise to super set this with Plate raise under head and then kill it with calf raises with same dumbells you used for shrugs, just lift it top of shrug position loock it up and squeeze for the whole duration of the calf raise set

Tops of those triceps huh!!! ?? Lol im sure you meant traps or trapesius!!! But good tip my man also if allow a slight distance from and dumbells you will get more into the meat of the traps.

I've never done a single shrug and I have very developed traps....and I'm not a big guy either. About the same build as Zac Efron. The only thing I could attribute my trap development to are heavy deadlifting, heavy rack pulls, loaded carries and cleans. I would bet cleans has been the biggest contributor. I see guys shrugging all over the gym and I don't get it. Learn how to do power cleans and work up to your own body weight. Get in a power rack and do heavy pulls above the knee. Walk 2 miles carrying heavy kettlbells. Not saying shrugs are useless, but I think good trap development comes from a variety of exercises that don't necessarily directly target the muscle, but have worked for me big time. Don't forget snatch grip high pulls. That's another awesome trap worker.

Basically exercises where you can load a good amount of weight because other muscles are contributing also in that movement. I think those are very good suggestions sir.
