How To Install Whiteline Control Arms on Audi S3 8V or Golf R

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We installed the Whiteline KTA252 alloy control arms with offset bushings on our S3 8V. Fitment on a Golf R is similar and probably easier because of the nut on the top of the rear mounting bolt instead of the threaded alloy subframe of the S3. It changed the handling a lot and this should have been one on my first mods.
Get the Arms from Amazon here amzn.to/2VjhTke
Use my code WL722 in the Whiteline checkout and get $20USD/$20AUD/£20GBP off their first purchase when you spend $150USD/$150AUD/£150GBP or more.

Great video man. I've swapped subframe to the ally S3 recently, now onto my third set of control arms, from stock steel (then put on whiteline caster/camber top mounts = great option!), to chinese ally with knock off camber adjustable ball joints (worked fine but didn't get me enough camber close to that of stock ie. max 1.25 neg, could only get a min of 2.3 neg, didn't met local laws i.e. no more than 0.5 deg neg more than stock = 1.75 neg.), to whiteline ones as you have with whiteline roll centre camber adjustable ball joints, meeting local laws ). Last swap I didn't lower the subframe with the one time torque to yield bolts, I removed the gearbox mount below the battery and gently jacked up the box from underneath, it got me the clearance I needed for the front right control arm bolt and possibly/probably easier. Also threw in the subframe deadset lock kit earlier on and didnt want to buy new bolts etc and the hassle of getting the subframe lock kit back in perfectly. Perhaps a tip for those that dont know. Great vid tho, cars looking great! Must say, camber is good, but getting more caster is better. PS, yes rear bolt first for the control arms! Found that out too... Im running 255/30/19 Michelin PS4s on 8.5" +45 et, on 8 piston Lambo brakes and there is clearance, inner plastic guards need work, but in the dry I can power out of corners with rear drift (rears are 235/35/19 Semi slicks aka RS3 offset tire sizes))

Good stuff 👍 Could remove the Dogbone mount bolts and use a piece of cloth on a pry-bar to rock the trans forward enough to remove the driver's side bolt 👍 Also, a good time to utilize a Subframe Locking Collar kit 👌

I have the same LCA's for over a year now, love them! Not just the better grip, but also improved steering feel with the added caster. Some believe they limit tire options, but I run 255/35 18's no problem, I did have to do some slight modification to the wheel well liner, basically tie wraps to have it hang a bit higher and some reshaping with a heat gun, but not bad at all really. They can fit with no rub at all, in fact I think I could maybe fit a 265, but it would be tight. Does that extra 20 mm of tire give a significant improvement in grip and handling? Oh yes, it is a big improvement. I did not realize just how much until I bent a rim and had to put my old 235/35 19's back on with the exact same tire/condition. I knew the 255's were better, but i did not really appreciate just how much until switching back; cornering at speeds where I was not even close to the limit with the 255's had the tires squealing and sliding with the 235's. I had to re-calibrate my speed/grip expectations even for street driving. I have a Golf with the steal sub frame, they went in with no issues at all. I also completely dropped the sub frame and did the sway bar and a dead set kit all at the same time, so that might be a factor, or maybe slight differences between aluminum vs steal sub-frames?

Not to add insult to injury, but may help others, super pro have brought a full handling kit out costs £1,500 (you muricans can do the conversion) so if you do it all at once it will save you a lot of pain getting multiple alignments done and faffing about getting up and down on the jacks ☺️✌🏻

Oh and I made the mistake of procrastinating on getting the alignment done after installation,, and ended up driving about 1500 miles, don't do that. The car drove fine but these LCA's cause a huge amount of toe out and will wear your tires down extremely fast. After that experience, is when i made my own alignment rig and started experimenting.

Do you happen to know your alignment specs after installing your bushings? I installed super pro bushings in my front lca's and I came out to about 7.8 caster
