You most likely can if you switch to a modified (non-official) version of Samsung's firmware that's downloaded from XDA

For the love of me, I did this on one of these exact same phones which I broke beyond repair, so I buy a new one because it was the perfect phone... FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN'T GET THE PHONE TO BOOT INTO RECOVERY AFTER FLASHING TWRP... I remember having issues last time but can't remember what I did that made it work ultimately.. I've already reflashed Firmware like 8 times to make sure I try again with a clean slate. No dice.. Can boot into recovery before flashing, I'm flashing the correct file, it's succesful, trying recovery with the correct timing on holding buttons (even tried the other way I've heard, to release power button after boot begins, as well).

This dm-verity disable encryption thing, is it REQUIRED? I don't like encryption for development purposes, but then again, unless you have a JTAG, you cannot access the storage from another device, anyway. Does forced encryption matter if I just want to root and use the phone? And more importantly, can I install the patch and disable encryption later if I change my mind? Thanks!

Right now, Chainfire recommends that you disable encryption on Samsung devices because of how complicated their security measures are. His tests showed that without doing this, the root solution he was testing was hit or miss with misses resulting in a soft brick that was quite complicated to restore from (regular methods did not work). So the tools we have available to us right now require that encryption be disabled, sadly This could change in the future, but it's not something I would recommend until you see others figure out a successful method. I haven't tested it myself because I don't want to risk bricking my phone, but failing to disable encryption as instructed will result in a bootloop

Correct, Chainfire makes SuperSU and another dev makes Magisk. But to my understanding, this applies to both. I would even say that Chainfire/SuperSU is a more sophisticated solution and it will be able to fix this issue if it is ever possible in the future

After restart to system the twrp.img disappeared ..

For those that know totally nothing about root,stop shitting around and do some research pls,just download ur stock firmware from sammobile,flash it in odin. Done,atleast that's how it works for my phone.

I have a guide on gaining root access to the Snapdragon S8 on my website - AndroidExplained.com - but as of right now, that method keeps the bootloader locked so we can't install TWRP on it.

No. We have to do the format/wipe in order to get rid of encryption. Right now, it's just too hard for community developers to keep these mods working on Samsung's devices with encryption enabled (thanks to things like KNOX)

You'll need to manually flash it via Odin (which will wipe all of your data). You can find a guide on this here - www.androidexplained.com/galaxy-s8-return-stock-android/ - and you'l just need to be sure you download the updated firmware for your specific device

Ok so I want to root my samsung S8 and I have followed every step exactly as shown on this website. I have an international exynos model. Soon as I flashed TWRP in odin and it's gonna reboot into recovery it keeps giving me the error mount data failure. It doesn't even go into recovery then. In order to use my phone again I have to completly unbrick it. Can anyone maybe tell me if I do anything wrong and what I do wrong? I have downloaded all that's needed from xda-developers. THNX in advance

Are you following step 12 of the full tutorial properly? - www.androidexplained.com/galaxy-s8-install-twrp/ The very second the phone boots reboots, you need to hold those three buttons down to make it boot directly into TWRP. If you don't do this and let the phone try to boot into the Android OS, I could see that causing an issue. This does not mean let it try and boot, get the error, and then try to boot into TWRP. You need to boot into TWRP right after flashing the recovery image with Odin.

Yes I have literally step by step. Everything goes all ok untill it has to boot in to TWRP. Then it gives me the cant mount data failure and it wont go into TWRP nor startup at all anymore. Then it keeps giving me verifaction failed to reset but that it wont let me do. So i had to flash it back to normal 3 times by now

It sounds like you have a Snapdragon version of the phone and these can't be unlocked through traditional means, sadly

Make sure your phone is not the SnapDragon type. Mine phone model is SM-G950U. Most phone in US use the SnapDragon processor for the Samsung Galaxy 8 :(.... So you won't be able to ROOT it for not because you won't have the option to see "OEM" in the Developer Options... So in other words, I can't root my phone yet or won't be able too at all :(....

After root s8+ imei change or not
