Great content! I just bought these same levers, but ran into a problem with the brake lever. It seems the well that the plunger goes into is too shallow on the lever I received. During testing, the front brakes were locking up and upon further inspection, I realized the aftermarket lever was pushing the plunger in significantly more than the stock lever. Did you happen to run into this problem? Thanks for the videos!

I have the same problem, read horror stories about the front wheel locking up if its rubbing like that. Not sure what to do, haven't read about it but I'm considering drilling out the hole a bit more for the plunger to sit in without it pressing. If not I'm just gonna go back to stock, its not worth risking your life for some shiny levers.

You definitely don't want to operate the bike if the brake isn't releasing fully. Double check that you have the correct lever and be sure that the plunger is in the proper position. Also adjust the lever into the furthest position from the grip and see if that changes anything. I've been enjoying mine for months now without issue. I'm starting to wonder if they might be some that were mislabeled and you might have gotten the wrong levers?

  • @robthesamplist

No I'm not using the bike I haven't had the time only just installed them, id never risk going out with them rubbing slightly like they are. They are only just very slightly rubbing it must be about 1mm or 0.5mm wrong. I double checked the levers are for the bike and have played very briefly with the adjustment to no avail. When I get time ill fix them properly but if I'm not 100% sure its disengaging fully then the stioks are going back on. Ive seen a vid with a dude who obviously didn't check if they were rubbing and he got full lock up with msv levers. Must check that they don't rub. Ive seen another vid about you must bleed them slightly to avoid this, maybe ill try that when I get the time just been so busy lately.

@@robthesamplist Here's how i resolved the problem. Ended up emailing MZS through Amazon and explained what was going on. Next day or so they emailed me back saying I must have been shipped FJ-09 levers instead of FZ-09 levers. There is a difference in the depth of the plunger well. FJ's are slightly more shallow. They apologized and sent me the correct parts free of charge. Got the new parts in a couple days, installed them on the bike and haven't had a rubbing or lockup problem since. Hope this helps.

No issues with the brakes locking up? I see a lot of complaints about it on these cheap levers and videos here on youtube of people crashing and I'm still trying to figure out if it's from the levers themselves malfunctioning or improper installation. But from the looks of your video, they are so simple to install that I don't see how the installation can be botched. Thoughts?

There are bikes that use a more complex lever. The FZ/MT series is not like that. These levers operate no differently than the ones that came on the bike. As long as you install them properly they are 100% safe.

I bought my bike with these levers already installed, and lately I've been hearing about people's front brakes locking up because of these levers. I've also read some people say it's because they were installed wrong. What are your thoughts on this?

For this bike, they are great. If you ride something like an R1 which uses a more complex lever, I would probably go with ASV or something like that. The most important thing is making sure you are receiving the correct levers for your bike. I’ve heard of a few people receiving the wrong ones and tried to install them not realizing it. That will obviously cause issues. They were flawless on my FZ

I got my V-trec levers from Germany today, Unfortunately the clutch lever didn't work. It's massive tension on the cable even when it's loosen all the way. With stock lever when I loosen the cable all they way to bottom I got a freeplay of 2cm so i can adjust to 3mm later after refit but when installing v-trec lever it's super thight and have no freeplay what so ever so something must be wrong. do I need to adjust down at the clutch? Bike is brand new

  • @MotoSouth

I’m not familiar with V-trec. I would first confirm that you were sent the correct levers for your bike. Also keep in mind that you have adjustment at the clutch arm as well. Just make sure the clutch is fully engaged and disengaged as it should when pulling and releasing the lever. You definitely need the required free play as well or you will burn up the clutch pads. A service manual will give you the specs

When I check at the clutch arm the locking screw are about half way so I think definitely have margins for adjusting there. Keep in mind that the ones STG compared are for a bike that uses a barrel style mechanism for contact with the brake plunger. The FZ/MT 09 use just a simple hole in the lever to contact the plunger. This uses no mechanical parts and is nothing different than the more expensive ones for this bike. If you need them for an R1 then you may have a point, but absolutely no reason to spend more in this case.
