This job was brutal. This dude makes it look easy and I’m mad about it. Watch this video a couple times before starting and you’ll be pretty well prepared. To mark the holes for the controls I actually put everything on the bike with e-tape where the pins on the controls would go. When I lined everything up where I wanted and righted it down the pins marked the e-tape and that’s where I drilled. Worked pretty well

Nice tip 👍🏻
I just finished up today, had my bars cut and tapped waiting around for 1fngr to come out with their v4 clutch perch/lever. I tapped them by hand with no vice, just drilled the tap until it bit, then worked it with a wrench and a pipe while sitting on the bars. It was a royal pain in the ass but came out way better than I expected. The other pain in the ass was bending that clutch cable housing. Had to break out my trusty pipe again to work that housing straighter, but the wrench and bar threads broke through the electrical tape and marked up the housing. Not the end of the world, though. I appreciate you putting this video together, it really helped. Glad to have the bars on too, they should’ve come like that stock.
Great video mate. I just installed the same bars on my MT09 with confidence after watching this video cheers again 🤙

Great video! Would you say the lower bar made the front wheel feel more planted to the road when accelerating hard or leaning in the twisties? Or is the feeling only marginally improved?
Like the install. I wanted black bars as well, for my white 2017 FZ09. I would have went with the protapers, but the cost was more than I wanted to pay. I would have powder coated too, but due to time, I just took mine off and painted. After, I wished I'd powder coated.

Great video for a street novice "mechanic". what bar bend would you recommend that closest comes t the stock bend? I don't want a lean. I looked at pro tapers information. It looked like windhams bend was the highest unless you went into the evo adventure- adventure high bars.
@MotoSouth
4 жыл бұрын
This doesn't really put you into much of a lean so anything with a bend of an inch or so taller would be similar to stock.
Be good if Pro Taper made model specific bars. As is, this installation is way beyond most of us. It's the most labor intensive bar installation I have ever seen. The only thing you didn't do was bend the tubing.

You can get by without cutting the bars. You can also use non threaded bar ends to eliminate that part as well.
Great video, very instructive. What is the purpose of the two button hex socket screws that show in 7:50?
You can turn the bucks off. This will bring you a bit forward with the handlebars

@MotoSouth

I went with Carmichael because it’s what a lot of guys recommended. Something a little lower shouldn’t be an issue and may feel even better. Just don’t forget to compare the forward position as well. Some bars are more straight, which could make them feel even lower.

Hey nice video mate, just a quick question what could these bars help with? i mean what's the difference between ProTaper bars and stock ones
@MotoSouth
10 ай бұрын
Number one reason I went with them was for the look of the black bars. They do make turn in and steering better though. Also a slightly more comfortable riding position
I'm ready to change my stock bars to an LSL X00 tapered handlebar which is very similar to the one by Protaper shown here. In this video, I've noticed that the rubber grips were fitted flush to the handlebar ends. In the OEM bars, the rubber grips sit about 15mm proud from the metal bar tube. 02:34 This is so the bar weights have 15mm embedded into the rubber. Motosouth has opted to go for bar end mirrors and so used that 15mm part to attach his bar end mirrors. Motosouth; Would you like to comment and clarify this?
@stephenspiteri_zunkus
3 жыл бұрын
Here’s how it is now flush mounted 26:58 and here 02:36 is how it was originally. I’m truly baffled how you ended fitting them like this. Since you had measured and drilled the positioning holes exactly as the stock bars then you should have ended up with rubber grips proud as stock.
@MotoSouth

I had to pull it back outwards the required distance. When I slid it on while filming I went too far. I realized it when I went to mount the controls. Good eye 😂
Now that you have tested this EVO, they are really much more comfortable (overall in the rider position) compared with the stock one? Thank you!

@@MotoSouth you can't go wrong wit Dave (Vcyclenut he did mine) he has the same pipe on his 14 FZ. I spoke with both him and Ivan down in SC. both tunes use 90% FlashTunes software and with Dave and maybe Ivan some Woolich code. the rest is custom edits. Ivan (is, was, the man but Dave caught up) Dave does tons of FZ'S and knows what he's doing it's a toss up between the two but dave has package deals. If you like thrill bikes just tell him and let him flash otherwise tell him exactly what you want. I went with the Graves package and paid extra $50 for some Woolich code. Good luck.
What it was change on bike about the drive feel?
Hi 👋🏽 what a central pegs in your bike?
Hello i want to know if install this bar can lock them?
One question, are the bars still wider than stock after you cut them to size? I'm noticing that the middle flat part of the EVO is longer than the stock bar so maybe that is a restriction on getting it the same overall size as stock.
@MotoSouth
3 жыл бұрын
They are still a little wider when cut the amount I cut
Doing this mod soon. Why did you pick 5/8" as the amount to cut off instead of cutting them to the same width as the stock bars? Does trimming them to stock width not leave enough room before the bend for the brake/clutch/switches to be attached?
@MotoSouth
3 жыл бұрын
I wanted them slightly wider. Cutting them stock width should still leave enough room for controls though. Just measure to be safe. 👍
@phrank2k11
3 жыл бұрын
@@MotoSouth I put the bars on before cutting them. Then I put the brake master cylinder on as far as it would go before it got to the curve and marked where the locating dowel would be. I measured the stock bar from the locating hole for the brake master cylinder to the end of the bar and transfered that measurement to the ProTaper bar. I found that 3/4" is about all that I could cut from each side before the controls get to the bend. After trimming them 3/4" on each side they were only roughly 1/4" wider than stock width overall. I then failed miserably to protect the bendy tube at the lever end of the clutch cable while (un)bending it and put a couple deep scratches in it 😲 A few touches from a Sharpie and you can't see it from 5'....but I still know they're there 😭 All in all, I'm happy with the outcome and am very grateful for you comprehensive tutorial.
Can you told me what a lever set (brake and clutch) this is. Thx
