    Yes please!! In these cooties19 times, I'm wondering how to put a wood stove chimney into a modern home in a pinch... I've been really wanting to have back up heat (well, if I had it my way, it would be primary heat!) I can grow food and hunt and we have small livestock and have multiple options for cooking, a creek for water, but heat in the winter?? That's the one that I'm really worried about. Im thinking a wood stove on concrete floor of the walk out basement, just in case, vent through a window? So many videos but not enough for complete noobs explaining the bare basics and mechanics so we understand what we are doing and why, so if it becomes a necessity, we know how to put something efficient and safe, on they fly.... If it was entirely up to me, I'd have a rocket mass heater down there with parlor stoves for boosters and "space heaters". Ultimately I'd like to have an actual big momma cook stove oven, in my kitchen, (husband has a long way to go before that would ever happen) but in a SHTF situation, everything is fair game. Anybody have suggestions?

    Great video buddy. I just installed mine today with your help. Only thing I'd add is wear nitrile gloves when sliding the flashing in. I was more liberal with the goop and lifted the flashing as much as possible as I set it into place rather than slide it. I made sure there was goop under the screw holes too; three along the bottom, two midway up

  • @CountryLivingExperience

    @CountryLivingExperience

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you. Sorry the attic is so tight, it is hard to even crawl back to the point of install. The ceiling box that you saw installed is the only surround that is required. It sticks into the attic about 8 inches and holds the insulation back from touching the chimney pipe. Some people like to add taller sheet metal boxes but it is not necessary.

    Peace. Prosperity. Personal freedom and individual rights. No wars!!! Such radical thinking RP. It's a good thing the war machine corporate controllers banned Ron Paul from putting such terrible ideas into the minds of Americans! It's sad, I'm sad that people think this censorship is totally fine. The pendulum will swing the other way eventually. This will ultimately lead to a totalitarian dictatorship style government. Great video! I have a very similar install I'm planning for. How does the attic shield attach to a vaulted/angled truss? It looks like it's designed to attach to a level surface. Did you have to adjust the flanges on the shield to match the angle?

    Thank you. The ceiling box attaches to the truss in the vertical plane. If you need bracing, that will just sit between each truss perpendicular to the floor. This kit is made for an angled ceiling. Sorry, I don't know how to describe it any different.

    They are very picky in Canada about woodstoves. You have to have an inspector come to your house and check it out before you can get house insurance. All your pipes have to be double insulated. They do not want to insure you at all with woodstoves and charge more money for insurance. Unless you pay cash for your house you have to have insurance. They also check to see if you have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide. We probably burn a lot more wood than you do because of the cold weather. We have been lighting fires since October and have 2 stoves. We also burn 12 cords a year and have to clean the pipes quite regularly.

  • @CountryLivingExperience

    Sorry to hear they are so strict. We are fortunate. I will probably burn one cord this winter if it is cold. Twelve cords is a huge amount but I know how cold it is up there. I think my uncle burns about 10 in northern Michigan every winter. Hope you are well.

    Hello, Best tutorial the average Joe like myself could have asked for. We are getting the Drolet HT 3000 and can't wait to have it up and blazing! I was quoted $5000 from the "professionals" to do it and I don't think this is as much of rocket science as they made it seem. I find the hardest part is finding all the right parts and pieces as none of my local big box stores have a complete set of the same brand. That last piece you mentioned (double wall chimney adapter) which came in my Duravent Up the ceiling kit, do you happen to know if it would fit a non Duravent double wall black stovepipe? I was able to get Duravent Chimney pipes so that's good from ceiling support and up but I can only get my hands on either a Selkirt or Supervent black stovepipe and I'm not sure if they would fit a Duravent adapter. I'm hoping the Duravent adapter is universal and would accept any brand but sometimes it pays off to double check everything in advance as I already know how finicky those products are. Hope I didn't bore you out with my rant but any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for the wonderful content!
