My damn gas fireplace is vented through a ridge vent.. only.. it ducts up through a stone stack to a ridge vent on a cathedral ceiling/ vaulted ceiling.. the thing is causing moisture to build and mold the ceiling.. trying to figure out what the hell ima gonna do.. can you cut a chimney pipe through directly on a ridge of a roof? Do they make boots that are like that?

I have a theory that insulation double wall is better than air wall for sake of resuming the draft after a fire goes out. That insulation probably keeps the chimney warmer starting the draft with greater ease even longer after a fire has died in a double wall air gap chimney. Thoughts?

I'm 10 years late to this, but I pray you'll still answer questions - or perhaps someone reading through the comments. My question is this: at 0:52 you said that triple wall pipe "cooled the inner pipe too much", and caused creosote buildup. How does triple wall pipe "Cool" the pipe? In my mind, the heat would stay in the inner pipe better w/ a triple wall pipe.

It may have to do with people not preheating their flue pipe which would result in more creosote.A better insulated pipe would create more of a downdraft.

@@DabblelyDiddly That's good to hear! That's what we had when I was a kid, but I was too young to know any codes back then. I haven't had a wood burner since I left for the service. I'm Installing one this winter and currently in my design phase. I was not liking the whole "double wall through a wall" idea! lol Thank you very much!

@@Adam.Rushing pretty shocking to hear anyone do double though a wall. i would not be able to sleep in that home with the stove running.
