I've had the part for a week and finally ready to do it. Note to anyone who is doing this symmons will send you the part (and pretty much any other) totally free. 5 min phone call on a Monday night and it was delivered Friday. I'm in MA where they are based so it might take a few days more if you live in another state. They don't ask for proof of purchase like some others when calling for warranty parts.

I've got the parts and have been working up the courage to replace the spindle. Your video is BY FAR the clearest and most informative I've watched! I have a couple of questions. My unit is a tub/shower unit--are there any other steps for this type of unit? I've watched your hot/cold seat replacement video because I think I'll have to replace those, too. My second question: my unit has not been taken apart for at least 30 years so I'm anticipating stuck parts. I have the old raven tool and will get the new Symmons tool for the replacement parts, but can I use WD-40 or another lubricant if I have trouble loosening the old parts?

You can use wd40 but will want to let the water run after to get any of it out. The tub/show should be the same as it's the diverter handle and an extra pipe that control the tub. The spindle is easy to replace (not so much the hot and cold seats). Just make sure to turn off the water and put the handle to warm before you take it apart as if you take it off with it all the way off you could damage some parts.

When servicing it (regular cleaning when the veins are clogged with debris), do you remove the cartridge in the open (warm) position or can you simply remove the cartridge with the switch in the close position? Also, I think I didn't set the cartridge all the way up against the cap, before mounting it back into the housing, which made my handle extremely hard. I hope I didn't damage it. I'm gonna have to re open everything today again and double check that. Huh! 😮

They recommend turning it to a warm setting to not cause any damage to the cartridge when you pull the cartridge out.

@@EricDIY I didn't do that. I also think I "unscrewed" T12 a couple of turns from the spindle/cartridge when I removed T12 from the housing. (Naturally the cartridge was under pressure and was stuck to the inside, allowing the cover to spin around the cartridge. When I re-installed it, I did not set the cover up against the cartridge, and therefore, it is too hard to turn now (the cartridge is too far inside of the housing). (I figured I would just put it back the same way it came out to begin with). Rookies mistake! I'm gonna have to repeat the entire process. Huh! I hope I didn't damage it. PITA

Dying to know...was the shower hot enough with the new spindle? Thank you very much for the tutorial!

Going to probably have to replace the hot and cold seats (everything else in the bathroom is fine for hot water so this should do it). Video to follow once I do it. They do say to replace the spindle first for this problem and to do the hot and cold seats it takes a special tool (which I already own)

Fixed the problem tonight by replacing the hot and cold seats tonight...I will be making a video. Not the easiest but doable
