*Did our video help you? If so, consider buying us a beer: bit.ly/3feE6tJ
This video is part 1 to an Auxbeam lighting system install. In this part 1, we show you how to install a 6 gang switch panel and an 8 gang switch panel from Auxbeam lighting. In part 2, we show you how to mount and wire up the lights that will connect to these switch panels. These switch panels allow you to hook up multiple lights & accessories from one convenient place. This kit has everything you need for installation and use so no need to buy any extra parts. These kits come with universal stickers to appropriately label the accessories you add to your rig.

    @@TimmyTheToolman More videos the better!! I love all your videos, especially the more complex ones. I try not to make dupe videos unless I think there's some value added (different technique or approach). I got the plastic abs idea from some other "non toyota" channel doing the fuse block and thought it was cool. Can't remember who now. I like what you did by using the circuit right there in the fuse box. I guess I couldn't do that as mine is always hot but that keeps things cleaner! (I like "clean" installs) Great video!

    @@PhoRunner Thank Minh. I'm the same as you and only like to make videos where I think I can make a big difference. There are lots and lots of Auxbeam Install videos in existence, but since our channel is lacking a lighting system series, I figured what the hell, it will help some people, so it's still worth creating. By the way, I did get the idea for using the engine compartment fuse box as potential fuse location to tap into from some guys video. I don't remember whose it was because I skimmed through lots of videos to see what was out there. I guess I got lucky and found one that would work in my 98. Sean chose the tail light circuit so his only gets powered on when he has his parking lights or headlights on.

    Great video helped alot with mounting! Have a 2 questions though sunce the unstuctiin auxbeam has arent perfect. 1. Dies the black wire from the panel go to the negative post of the battery or a ground? Or does it not matter? 2. Do you have to change the fuse in the add a fuse based on the amperage of what you are putting in the auxbeam fuse panal? I know you have to change the fuse in the box based on amps of the accessory, but dies the add a fuse need to be changed as well? Thanks again for the video!

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    @TimmyTheToolman

    9 ай бұрын

    The negative wire from the panel can go to the negative battery terminal or a body ground. It doesn't matter. For the Add a Fuse, you would just match the same amperage fuse for the circuit you're tapping into. I tapped into the Power Outlet fuse spot in the engine compartment fuse box which uses a 15amp fuse, so I just installed a second 15amp fuse into the tap a fuse. I don't think it matters what you're powering with the fuse block in regards to what amperage circuit you tap into. I think all the small red wire is powering is the communication between the switch panel and fuse block.

    So I got a random question for you, can you use one of these to wire a chase light? Most chase lights come with their own switch to toggle through the modes, do you know if you use this if you able to toggle through the modes without the original switch

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    @TimmyTheToolman

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm not familiar with chase lights but we do think you could use a separate switch to toggle through the modes. I personally wouldn't do it because it's just another switch you have to mount inside your cab. I originally had chosen multi-mode lights for most of the lights I installed on my 98 4runner, so I would have had to run 4 switches into my cab to change the mode functions. I guess if it was just one of two lights, that wouldn't be a bad way to go if you really wanted to have the multi-mode lights. If you try out running a separate switch to the mode wire (yellow wire), let us know how it works out.

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    I don't believe you could just have one with constant power. It's all or nothing. When the switch panel is run to constant, the switch panel will stay lit up all the time. If you drive your rig every day, those panel lights might not be enough to drain the battery. If your rig sits for days at a time, you might find you have a dead battery. I don't know how much power the switch panel light draws but they obviously will be drawing some power. I guess the only comparison I can make is a blinking car alarm is on all the time and it won't drain the battery that quickly. But, the panel light is probably a larger power draw than a small blinking LED alarm light.

    I see auxbeam puts a graduated series of fuses in their box. Is there any reason why you can’t put a larger fuse in place of the smaller ones? Just in case I have 4 or 5 high current draw accessories.

    Yeah, I swapped some smaller fuses out for larger ones without issue. It would be weird that they would put different relays for every circuit. It's my guess that every circuit has the same relay.

    I don't know the exact dimensions. You could easily figure out how big to make yours by setting the switch panel and fuse next to each other and then measure the length and width needed. It's pretty straightforward.

    Did you check that the circuit you tapped into to power the panel is not 12 volt constant? That's what seems to be the problem. You need to be tapped into a circuit that is 12 volt switched, meaning, you only get power once you turn the ignition key to the ACC or "On" position.

    Hi Timmy, I still look forward to your uploads and enjoy your work. My question has nothing to do with this video, and I apologize. However, I am working on removing the fender liners on my 3rd Gen, and the clips holding them are almost impossible to remove without breaking them. Do you, or do you know anyone who knows the Toyota part # for these clips, as I would like to replace them? Thanks in advance.

    Yeah, it's fairly impossible to remove those clips without breaking them. I don't know the part number for those clips. I'd just go to the dealership and buy one so you know the part number and then you could order the rest from an online seller to save money.

    The Toyota part number is: 90189-06212 It’s referred to as a grommet screw. But check out this link for a pack of 20 universal clips. amzn.to/3gYkHOz You can also go inside the engine bay and see the tops of the clips on the top of the fender. You can pinch the ends of those fender liner clips with some pliers and push them through. - Sean

    If you wire the unit into a “switched” power source the Auxbeam panel is not powered unless your key is turned to the accessory position. The Auxbeam unit allows for things other than lights to be powered; for example a fridge (as depicted in the stickers). A “switched” power source wouldn’t work in that case, in that the fridge wouldn’t get power all the time. Do you know of a workaround for that situation?
