Once you mount the closer to the door jamb use a level on top of the closer, before mounting bracket on the door, will work better and last longer.

I was feeling a little unsure of what I was doing by reading the directions. I watched the video and BAM! I did it with ease!! Thank you so much.

Rarely do I watch a "how to video" like this that is clearly understood and I didn't have to watch it again and again. This guy wasn't out to impress anyone with the bells and whistles. Just the things you need to do to install the closer. From 0-10, I give him a 12.

Good video. I have even more previous holes to deal with so I bought a metal plate at Home Depot to cover them up. Don't know if it will work because the screws to attach it might be in the way. Unfortunately a bird flew into the lanai enclosure and I'm waiting for him to leave before I proceed (my projects never go smoothly...well at least 80% of them). I also don't think the door should slam shut like that, but this should be an easy adjustment.

Perfect. I bought one of these today at Lowe's and wanted to see how to install it. Seeing how it installs works better for a left brain person like me.

I want to see how to make a new installation on a new metal security door without ruining it.

This evening Ikea is delivering my large bed and I would like to disengage my door closer. I just pulled out the 2 pins but it's now impossible to put them back in. Do I have to unscrew the wall bracket or the door bracket?

No, put the end with the hold open washer (right end side in the video) in and put the pin in. Now put the other in and pin it... That's all that you should have to do... You may have to pull on the unit (shock) to get the rod out enough to put the pin in...

I bought the same closer today, but have found that the locking washer doesn't move as it should. It "bites" into the piston rod and gets stuck. Does this happen on yours?

Turn the locking washer 90 degrees or so... it should release.

How do u unlock washer?

Our old closer was at the top of the door. Why is this one in the middle of the door?

I have a screen door that has a lot of tension when opening, and retracts quickly before slowly down with the pneumatic pump. once the pump regulates the door close, it works as expected, slow and fully closes. so it’s annoying to open because it takes a significant amount of strength and slams back at you. any suggestions? i figure i may just need to get a new closer.

If you have a heavy duty closer it may be exerting too much force. Try a standard duty closer. They require less force. There's no adjustment that will reduce the tension. Some older closers could be turned to adjust - you may want to try that. Also, the installation instructions should explain that the adjustment screw should be used to prevent the door from slamming and from closing too slowly. The adjustment screw does not help close the door further. In order to make certain that the door closes completely, the closer needs to be attached to the door so that it has some pull when you insert the pin.

never mind the negative, it was great

very good "How to DIY" but you don't want the door to slam or it will hit you on the back of your ankle when carrying groceries

My suggestion is to use a level on the line between the mount points - to make it look good and work better. when it's at a slight angle like you installed it, it gets less force from the pneumatic. And it looks trashy.

+John Wang you right! He make bad JOB. Doors should close on last 2-5 cm softly and firmly. He stafted this JOB! LOL . shame !!!!!!

John Wang Because during installation your supposed to pull the piston rod out about an 1 1/2 inch and put the locking washer on to hold it in place. Then mark you holes to install brackets. That way when it pulls closed it has tension all the way to the closed position.

Make sure the door is closed when you install the door bracket, if it's open, as I learned the hard way, you're screwed. He does it right in the video, just doesn't emphasize this point enough. Good video, though.

1. Make sure it is level first 2. put the screw in the centre of the bracket slot. This will give you 50:50 adjustment either way. You did neither...

Helpful but incomplete. What about the door latch to catch the handle? Also agree with others the adjustment should be different to a slower close but still closing.
