Installing a Home Depot Screen Door
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Installing a screen door to keep the bugs out can actually result in more challenges than you might think. Be careful to have extra hardware around, especially various sized screws, so you don't wind up running back to home depot.
Tools you will need:
Saw for cutting through framing
Measuring tape
Combination Drill
Wedges

Thank you so much. I really wanted a screen door but my husband said " I don't know how to do that." So I showed him this video & you make it look so easy so now we're going to buy the same exact door you bought from Home Depot. Thank You!!!!!
All I can say is welcome to Home Depot! We have had the problem of missing hardware in many items that we purchased at Home Depot too. So frustrating!
Just tried to- and did- install this door. Wish I'd watched this video first. I tried to extrapolate from the kind of inadequate instructions that come with the door. He's right- there's a lot of missing hardware and the dimensions are problematic. I may have to totally redo the door because of the gaps left- the door dimensions are slightly eccentric on our front door- I chose to buy some foam tape with an adhesive side to help seal the door area. Not much good to have a screen door that still lets insects in, huh? The result wasn't/isn't great. Glad to have this guy's online help. Live and learn, I guess.
Keepin' it real! Thanks Steve. I need a new screen door. I'm now a little wiser about the mechanics involved.
As always, it helped out immensely. Thank you for all the videos you do to help people, us mere mortals. LOL
2:27 you swiped a spider no flinch. What a man
Anyone else see the spider yelling at him and shaking his little fist or just me? 🤣 but this is a great video. This will be much easier that I thought it was gonna be.
Great job Steve. I have found that same door at Menards for about $15-20 cheaper. The only thing is that you have to buy the hardware separate. I guess an advantage is that you can choose the hardware that you want instead of just what comes with the door. Thanks for sharing Roy
Can't beat fresh air. Imagine that - a Home Depot product missing hardware???
Thanks for this post! Grateful for KZread!
Love your videos and your ease of explanation! I'm hooked! (No mention of plight of little spider) - Ken in Hawaii

You are now my new Spirit Animal. Be blessed and bring forth new tips for getting things done!!
that was awesome man thank you !!! i feel confident enough to install a screen door now
Looking forward trying these instructions. Wish me good luck!
when he's testing out if it shuts by itself and then turns around like " :) !!!" i needed that
I bought the single door version (no channels) and yes, despite having the original wrapping intact, it was missing 2 of the 3 hinges, door handle and the mickey mouse lock as well as most of the screws. What annoyed me is, even though the screen door fits in the groove outside the door frame, when installed, due to the hinges, it is like 1/16" to 1/8" sticking out. Since no grooves can be dug into the door, the adequate grooves has to be made (requires special tool and skill) on the frame to compensate the space taken by the hinges.
I literally only needed this one video but I’ve subscribed based purely on your channel’s name 😂 that got me.
Dude this video helped out a lot watched like 6 video and yours was the best thanks man!!!👍👍
You make this look so easy! We've had issues for 3 hours now. Lol
Amazing, straight to the point, great tips. Really appreciate it!
Oh i wish I could manage that, but i don't even have the proper tools. :) Great job! I love screen doors vs just leaving the door open. Thanks for video! :)
that look of accomplishment when its up is priceless!
We were just talking about getting a screen door for the front door! I was going to build one from scratch but I don't think I can make a light weight one for less than $50, great find and great install video!

I guess that depends on what you have laying around, and where you get your supplies. Thinking about it right now, about the only thing I would need to purchase is the screen and spring. I have a couple of 2x4s that I can rip down on the table saw to make a stick frame. Hinges came from the dollar store, go figure. Maybe not as light, but definately will probably hang on the frame a lot longer.

+Jim Dollens well fine maybe I'll try and make one this weekend and report back. I have the screen already oddly enough...
00:27 was so affordable back then. Now those doors are around 120-200 bucks
I just night this door 2 months ago. It came without hardware and I don't know what hardware to get. The home depot website had instructional video that made it seem like a kid can do it. Thanks for the video. I have decided to return the door.
Thank you for the video what I was really looking for it was all helpful but what I was looking for is whether the screen went to the inside or the outside I'll put it to the inside like you did thank you

THANKS FOR POSTING YOUR VIDEO. IT WAS VERY HELPFUL.
Thanks for the video! Now I know that I will need a professional to install this door for me :D
Congratulations, very good job.
A great video. Very helpful. Thank you very much
This video was super helpful. I have been wanting a screen door for a long time but couldn't afford to have one installed for me. I feel soon empowered! Thank you! I can do this!

I would have returned that to Home Depot, but good job getting it installed. Surprised you still kept it.
Thanks, this helped to get an idea of the difficulty
Thank you so much. And yes I'm missing some screws.
Thank you, this was a great help.
Wow. What a terrible door. Your patience with that impresses me, Steve!
Thanks man very clear and simple great teacher
Awesome video I'm nervous to try this but definitely have to
Thanks Man! That was zakly what I needed no fluff n right to the point
Very helpful. I have a similar door w/ a different handle, but NO INSTRUCTIONS and I'm guessing missing hardware :-( I was wondering how I would install it and where the pieces went, you answered that for me - thank you very much. I saw in another video that shimming the door to the correct height is a 'pro-top'. Nice... You should include that spider in all your videos as a side-kick. awesome...
Hi what is the min and max range of clearance you should allow between the lock side of the door and the door jam?
How did you know where to install the eye hooks for the spring? I don't want it so tight it's a pain to open but want it tight enough that it closes
Looks great, good to know, thank you!
Ok. I’m not crazy!! It doesn’t have all the screws you do need!! 🤣. Thanks for the informative vid. Putting up this exact screen door
Nice job, Steve! Did you caulk or peg up those original holes that you couldn't use to attach the door to the hinge trim?
Thanks man that was awesome. Their motto is... “Home Depot we can help (if you can find us that is). Yeah, always look at the box contents before you leave, sad but true. So ridiculous they don’t have one central person just sitting there and answers questions all day, somebody who’s worked there for 20 years and knows the entire store backwards and forwards. Same subject, why the hell is it that every time I call, the phone rings for like 20 minutes?
Nice job! Great Tutorial!
Meh, we get what we pay for, unfortunately (I would have bought the same one). Great video though. Really helpful. The door looks great! You did an excellent job considering the lack of hardware. I would of been quite frustrated, really. You handled it like a champ!
It starts out like it’s an ad for Home Depot, but bad view of HD with all the missing hardware. You make it look easy.
You Karate Chop-ed that poor little spider... Monster! :)
yup 14 and my mom wants me to do this. thank you for telling me to not pick this door.
I loved the video. Seems easy.
This was a helpful video. Thanks!
When you drill your screws into the door trim, it looks easy, but I crack the trim piece when I screw in my screws. Suggestions?
anyone know the actual name ff the vinyl hinge or where to buy it? Every door at lowes, HD HOME BASE, Ace,do not come with that frame, nor sold separately
Did you use any weather stripping to tighten up the gaps after you had hung the door?
Dude, cool thanks, super helpful.
Can a screen door be installed so that it swings inward (into the house)?
If there are obstructions and the hinges have to be on different sides is that OK?
very helpful. Thanks man!
Great video! Honest, clear and real. Thank you Steve.
Thanks for a EASY to watch how to!
I have the same door, it really started to sag in no time, I even added some "L"shaped brackets to the corners and it still sags.
was your specific kit missing pieces, or do they just not include all of the hardware in general?
GREAT JOB...VERY HELPFUL......
The big thing I noticed is that at the 3:19 mark the door is closed and you can see the very large gaps around the sides of the door. Those are the perfect spots for noseeums to enter the house.

Yep. Add weatherstrip to the cost list!
Great video. Very helpful. I had this door sitting around a while....installed it w help from this video. The door is total junk & HD shouldn't be selling this flimsy garbage. Missing hardware too. Ridiculous. I can't see it lasting long. A little sturdier than cardboard. But your video was great.
great video. I wonder if the "slop" in the Chanel is just In case your door isn't square. gives you that wiggle room.
The width on the door said 32" online. is it adjustable? My width is 35"
I just bought a house with several bush, plants, shrubbery ect. Is there some place that i can sell the plants/bushes ? as opposed to digging them up and throwing them away
GREAT JOB 👍!
great video. helpful.
I know the video is 4 years old and can you please tell me where I can order this screen door..Thank you
Great video!
Great video
Good video. Thanks
very helpful thank you
Perfect video!!
It’s Home cheapo btw and those hinges work now but let us know how long they last
you're Genius wish i can hire you to install my patio screen door
Thank you!
thank you for this. hardware pack is STILL missing pieces.
I would've found a different door if I had to drill a new hole. Only because the other hole is just chilling. I'd be willing to spend more for a little better quality. To each his own. Thanks for the info
Definitely helpful!
Nice job.
Very helpful you are owesome.
Great instruction video
For any of you thinking the 20$ wood-frame screen is a better option, make sure to account for the turnbuckle and hinges needed for it and possibly a pneumatic door closer or spring. Also take into account the hours of cursing because the door needs 1/8" shaved off and you've already screwed it into place.
@rrittenhouse
8 жыл бұрын
it shouldn't take that long to take off 1/8" and surely no cursing! :)
@brothyr
8 жыл бұрын
***** it was on the hinge side which I had already prepared for the hinges and hung. I ended up taking the whole thing down, taking off the 1/8" and re-doing the hinges.

I think Adam Rivera is secretly a home depot employee or screen door sales man!
So, this video is 6 years old. How long did it take for the vinyl door to turn into a parrallagram? :) I get your frustration. I installed doors for Depot for 18 years. That was a daily occurrence for me. Good job on the install though. The reason they are so short in width is so it will fit inside the jamb (35'') when there is no exterior trim to mount to. Then you add stop on the inside. Keep up the good work.
disappointed you didn't make the door. good illustration of why handmade beats store bought.

I'm a 72 yr old woman that is disgusted with the quality of the crap we are sold. I am not a carpenter or any other handy person. I taught myself how to install, fix or jury-rig faucets, sprinkler systems, light fixtures and all manner of household what evers. I am now installing a storm door. Being 72 and smallish is the biggest draw back but; I find a way.It beats being angry all the time. Anyway if I mess it up I know who to be mad at and I just do it again until it get it right. Most of this junk comes from China or other far away places. I bet the people working in their factories laugh their butts off knowing the shinny new "thing" you just bought will not, install, work or assemble - yeah funny...
You have a friend at 2:25 and again a bit later at 2:33. Nice job on the video too.
Man!, that was one tough spider. Just kept coming. 2:27
They sure picked the right guy to short change...if you don't have what it takes to make up for Home Depot's shortfall, I bet most of the rest of us are in real trouble. Most things I buy these days don't seem that inexpensive (I guess I'm getting old) so I really get frustrated after "paying too much" to end up wasting time hunting don't parts or having to return the thing to the store.
