Hi, I'm not an electrician (I was a telecoms engineer with BT, back in the day), but I watch a lot of your videos. I found this one really interesting, because I'm about to get an EV. If I have any work done I like to check on the best practice for that work! I'm very impressed with your professional and knowledge. I really hope I manage to find an electrician as good as you! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the excellent videos Jordan. You have inspired me as a newcomer to the industry. Two questions about EV charging please: 1- Can the testing be carried out by an ordinary MFT (Megger) or do I have to buy a special one for the Zappi ? 2- Is an SPD needed on the whole consumer unit or just for the EV circuit ?

Hi Jordan, If you had solar panels would you need to wire the ct back to the harvi in the meter cabinet or would you need a separate harvi local to the solar panel supply?

Sometimes it's handy having someone tell you about a product, but then you will only forget, you only get to know about something when you are working on them day in day out, but you always have the instructions to fall back on, these things are not difficult to install, it's only another circuit. Judging by the comments, when someone does a simple job, they now have to be praised from the roof tops, is that where we are at in this country.

Hi Jordan, I’ve been watching your KZread channel for a while now as I was looking to get an EV and therefore a home wall charger. That’s how I found your channel in the first place. Now I have my EV (e-Niro) and the people installing my free wall charger have said I need a 100 amp Dual Pole Isolation Switch fitted by my energy supplier (EDF). Because of COVID-19 EDF are not doing any service work at the moment. Is the 100a DP Isolation Switch something an Electrician can fit or does it have to be my energy supplier? Thanks again Great Channel!

Zappi CTs runs on a single twisted pair ethernet cable, if you ever need to extend them (up to 100M) you can connect supplied CT cable to a single pair of standard Ethernet cable. You can connect more than one Harvi to a system, so on a very big system more than six CTs are possible, devices can also be grouped so two separate Solar systems can be grouped so that Zappi sees how much power is being produced.

Did you find out, how many CTs can be used? Maybe the config menue shows, how many mappings for CT inputs to their value's interpretation (solar, battery....) are available. Is there more than 3? Would be nice to be able to measure 3 phase grid + Solar + Battery, at best Solar/Battery also with 3 Phases....

No. Also the MCBs are not tripping on spot. Thermal overload for B and C curve is 1.13 to 1.45 times the rated current for one hour on an ambient temperature of 30°C. On a 32A MCB that would be between 36.2 and 46.4A. But actually it's not wise to use this overhang. Which isn't done, because 30A are still less than 32A.

How does the circuit for the CT know which way power is flowing? Ah, yes, phase angle. But a current measurement (CT) must be time referenced to voltage measurement (in Zappi). So the Harvi must be quite a clever little widget, particularly as it is self powered! The Zappi must be able to receive an instantaneous current reading from the Harvi and be able to compare it against an instantaneous voltage reading in the Zappi taken at about the same time, or at least within half a 50Hz cycle. Is this right? No wonder they don't use wifi.
