    How would you recommending venting an encapsulated crawl space without any vents? There were none prior to encapsulation but have some offgassing / sterile smells so wondering how to ventilate .

    My vents have the block turned on its side instead of a full block opening, so the center partition of the block would be in front of the fan. Have you encountered this? How much would it affect the airflow?

    Thanks for watching! It does not matter as long as the vent is open and the vent fan can run continuously.

    It would be great if you had a start to finish video for this in which you removed a normal foundation vent and replaced it with this fan. Out here in California, the majority of foundation vents are mudded in stucco vents. It's not entirely clear what you would do in that situation, and if you would have to create a bunch of wall damage by tearing out the standard vent, or if this could be mounted inside the crawl space directly behind it. In my situation, the foundation vents are framed in on a cripple wall, so I am assuming I would need to attach this fan to the inside of the 2x6 boxed in framing? Are there downloadable instructions or something so I know if I can purchase a couple of these from you?

    You do not have to remove the vent, it just needs to be open. The fan is installed on the inside of the foundation wall. All of the related documentation is available on the product page: diy.crawlspaceninja.com/lomanco-pcv1-foundation-vent-fan/

    Hey Mike. I just bought (2) of these 220 CFM fans, and they seem very weak to me. I doubt they would blow out a lit match. Have you noticed this in the ones you install, or are mine defective ?

  • @gnawrot

    @gnawrot

    2 жыл бұрын

    They should blow plenty of air. 220CFM is a lot. Check if they blow plenty of air not installed (I mean for example outside). I have installed Delta bathroom fans that push 130 CFM and that is the largest CFM for a 4-inch pipe (diameter). For 2x220 CFM you would need probably three 4-ich diameter holes that supply air (don't quote me on the exact math). I had to cut doors in my bathrooms so I have an area of an opening under my door at least 12 square inches. I notice a nice breeze when the fan is on and I still doubt that I get 130 CFM because I have one elbow and that roof vent is also a nasty elbow as well. However, it blows out of the water my 100 CFM Broan and is much quieter (the fan is bigger and heavier). The build quality is much better.

    After the fan is installed, what do you do about the other vents? Do you seal them? Close them? Is a dehumidifier required with this set up, or will the fan lower humidity by itself?

  • @CrawlSpaceNinja

    @CrawlSpaceNinja

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, if we're preforming a crawl space encapsulation we will seal all of the other vents in the crawl space and set up a dehumidifier to continuously control humidity. Here is a video telling more about sealing crawl space vents if you're interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJyjktJmk5aXp6w.html

    Yes! It helps the dehu breathe and gets that stagnate air out of the crawl space. So air is moving and that helps the dehu do it's job.

    Nice video, planning on install one of those vent fans. Actually, was planning on installing two of them in my 1000 sq ft (2ft tall) crawl space. One on the back side of the house and the other towards the front side of the house. Would be nice to view some videos of the Aprilaire dehumidifier install, particularly on the ducting outlet side. For instance, how far to run the ducting and were to end it.

    I put across bays fan like that in a couple years ago and then my airconditioner wouldn't cool my house. She might get sucked all the cold air out of my house. I don't know if it's because my vent pipes aren't wrapped get enough or what.

    It could be that your ducts aren't sealed properly or your subfloor is not air sealed. A small fan like this only pushes out 110CFM so it should not cause a strain on your HVAC if it's sized properly for your crawl space.
