How to harvest and prepare Bamboo shoots for food!

Bamboo is a great resource to have on a homestead, not only for the cane, but also for food! Today I am going to share with you the way we harvest and prepare fresh bamboo shoots from our black bamboo. No doubt you can find bamboo from someone local to you, but you can even order it from Amazon: amzn.to/41HuJpO
Before eating any bamboo, make sure you know what variety you are dealing with and how best to prepare it for consumption.

Thanks for the video! Have you figured anything more out about processing and cooking bamboo shoots in the last couple years? Any resources you'd recommend? I'm just starting to figure things out, too. I've been getting the edible portion out of the shoots by first cutting them in half lengthwise. That just takes one cut, and then each half of the shoot can be easily removed from the tip of the shoot to the base by just bending the leafy part back and off.

Hey Patrick, we've pretty much stuck to this or doing the same as you described by cutting them in half, depending on whether we want them whole or not. I'm always in favor of easier and less prep work. You can tell a difference in tenderness between the larger shoots and the smaller ones, but not enough that I won't use both. I love adding them to fried rice. Stir fries are good too. Its such an abundant source of free and delicious food in the spring time. Best I can tell you on resources is to scour google... I know that's not great advice, but it's where I learned and at this point, I can't remember specific sources.

Cutting board with jig small air pistons attached at the bottoms low pressure just to firm hold bring down blade from top to bottom use a heavy one connect to cutting board process one every with one cutting and one peeling being halved will leach out more toxic elements
