tolga erok Ok thanks for the info because mine haven't fruited (obviously) but I'm hoping our fruit ripens in autumn like our cherry guavas because they don't get stung by fruit fly. The only organic way to stop them is netting. Thankfully, fruit fly netting has come down in price considerably over the past few years and you can buy it in bulk on eBay.

Guavas are more cold tolerant than you realize. For example, in Nevada and Arizona, which basically have desert climates, the Guava can grow. However, during the winter time, especially in Southern Nevada, care must be taken for the first year to protect the roots of the plant. After that, the guava tree will die back during the cold but usually comes up stronger the next year. This has been my experience.

What could causes a guava tree to dry up and die within just a few days? ... i have a very nice medium guava tree about 45-40 years old that have been producing a lot of fuits in past years... but just this past week, all the leaves on the tree dries up, and when i pruned the thick branches (about 3-4 inches in diameter) that were especially dry looking, the wooden braches are very dry as it it has been dried and dead for a month?

I have a guava tree but they don't tolerate the weather well. The frost kills many trees, so they have to be protected. They always loose their leaves during the winter unless its brought it. The first guava I bought never produced fruit and after 3 years, froze one winter. The one I have now produces a few fruit, but so small that the first year they dried up because I did not know they were ripe and left them on the tree. Second year I harvested them. In Bakersfield, it likes partial shade. Thanks for the video.

Lucky for you being in California where you can grow these delicious tropical fruit. I am in NJ -zone 6b, and very interested in growing guavas. I have two ruby red guavas growing nicely in containers and are about a foot tall. I am wondering how to take care of them during the cold NJ winter months. A question I have is whether these guavas will drop all their leaves in fall, and can they survive if kept at 50-55 degrees during winter. I plan to move them to a dimly lit walk-in basement where the temp stays around this level through the winter. If they drop all their leaves for the winter they would not need any light, but I am hoping they would other wise survive the 50-55 degree temp. Thank you for any other tips and suggestions.

I don’t know what variety of tree this is. I would welcome any tips on how to get it to grow and start producing. When you talk about fertilizer, what do you suggest? What about mulching? I live in California 9b zone. How about watering? I trimmed a lot of twigs yesterday. Do you think this was smart to do? It is the only guava tree that I have so do you think I need another so they could cross pollinate? I would welcome any tips that you could give me. Thank you very much

It is a large tree (20 +feet) ,it has medium to large fruit moderately firm pulp with a small, well defined cluster of seed at its center. Excellent balance of tart and sweet. Fruit production has slowed ii recent years, I guess that is because I have never fertilized it

I was hesitant to buy because I’ve tried guava in the past and they were bland. I plan on saving some seeds and planting the. Hopefully they’ll produce great fruit just like the one it came from.

Nice video. ) I have a few different guava trees in containers. Some of them have fruits. ) My Mexican White doesn't look anything like yours. And unfortunately I can't find the White Arabian guava tree to buy in my area or online. (( Do you have any seeds you could share/sell?

Hi Neeraj, I think the zone identify in TX is very general. Your County agriculture agent can give you more specific information. Get his email address, they are very good about answering questions. And then come back to this channel and find his videos because he is so informative that you can get enough information not only for container gardens but also garden in the dirt. I specifically like that he goes from planting to harvesting in a lot of his videos. He is a great teacher.

loquat, white sapote, jujube, Feijoa, mulberry, fig. all take light to medium frost and should be good for 8b. (the white sapote is the most sensitive) the rest can be grown in 8a or colder even. jujube can take temps into the teens, and is excellent tasting fruit. all of them are low maintenance (except maybe fig)

I have a guave tree named Allahabadi white guava. It was purchased indirectly from Exotica nursery in SD. I'm wondering if it's the same. Waiting for mines to fruit. Maybe next yr.
