How to GROOVE with a Drummer

Музыка

Going over a few of the basics when it comes to locking in with a drummer. We're learning how to diagnose exactly what's happening with a tasty groove and then adding some of that special MusicMan Stingray sauce to it! Get lost in the sauce.

A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his KZread channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Picking a non 4/4 beat on this was really important. Your groove genuinely sounds great :)

I don't play bass or drums (at the moment), but this is such a fundamentally important lesson for understanding the combining of multiple instruments and musical concepts like octave slides and jumps, playing the five on the snare, etc. Bravo, Mr. Daniel!

Awesome job breaking down what to listen for with some odd time signatures. I still sporadically have trouble with it on the guitar...but my main issues with odd time is when I'm freestyle rapping over the top. It's been insane to try and keep my rhyming words on time and feel like it's all flowing properly. ...Sorry for the rant. Great video

That's funny last night I said to my friend I should start thinking about coming in on different beats when i practice improv... Loving how you're managing to get a new video out every weekday recently! Good stuff Sean. Was it the song you rerecorded with Andrea that was in 6/4? Thought that was pretty cool!

It is great idea to introduce guitar players to drummer counting. This was too much too soon. I'd have started with 4/4 and a slower tempo.

@@seandaniel23 I'll check those out. Listening to a guitar teacher saying "up Down Down Up Up" etc drives me nuts. I once spent half an hour trying to figure out what one guy was saying only to realize he was counting over 2 measures. Drummer time is the best way of explaining a songs rhythm. so...thanks...
