Good topic to cover. Anything that encourages more people onto two wheels is good.

Nicely done! I've recently subbed because of the variety of approaches and the ever-articulate British accent. 😉 You pretty much summed up the entire video (IMO) with the discussion about mind. All is mind. Every story we tell ourselves is locked in there and it's our job to "just get on with it" so we can over it. See ya on the next one!

Funny enough this video came on my feed today, I went from a CBR650R to a Rebel 1100 this morning, very different styles and riding position. It intimidated me at first as it has far more torque than what I was used to, but I'm slowly getting used to it :)

You're so right about how bikes can be intimidating in different ways. I've just got a XL125 Varadero, handles amazing, not really much power. Only problem is it weighs a tonne! Also, I've only ridden scooters before and I literally can't put my left foot down 🤣so doing hill starts, trying to find the biting point whilst also holding the front brake and putting revs on is quite interesting. CBT due again soon, I'll try and sort my feet out before then.

Maybe find a smaller bike and get your full licence then you won’t have to keep repeating CBT. I started on scooters.

Weird subject for me. I'd been riding bicycles all my childhood, got some experience with mopeds and such around the age of 15, then learned how to ride proper motorcycles when I was in my very early 20s while vacationing in Greece for two months. I had never, ever felt "fear" on anything two-wheeled and I always had a pretty decent "feel" for how to handle a bike and how to interpret its feedback. I partially blame the fact that I grew up on and around horses since around Kindergarten, which might have helped me in some respects when riding bicycles or motorcycles. Anyhow: Bought my first real bike back in the mid/late 1990s and felt right at home on the thing. Even the fact that I low-sided it in a corner at some point due to some slippery patch of asphalt/bitumen and probably excessive speed on my part didn't deter me. I simply did what I had learned while riding horses, which is to just get back up in the saddle and keep riding. Worked like a charm back then. Then I took about a 10 year break from riding and one day a friend invited me to ride with him on some fairly easy country-roads like we used to do in earlier years. Only difference was that I was 10 years older and I was riding one of his bikes now which also weighed about 60 kilos more than the heaviest bike I'd ever owned, had terrible brakes and handled about as well as an oil-tanker (mid 1990s H-D Fat Boy). Suddenly I found myself having all sorts of weird thoughts while on the bike, like "he hasn't changed the tires on this thing in over five years... what happens if one of the tires bursts on me at 80 or 100 kph?". This was totally new to me - never had any thoughts like that before while riding/driving ..well, anything. I was usually always one of the faster riders in any group I was in, but all these doubts and irrational fears that popped into my head made me drive like an 80 year old grandmother. It was so bad that I had to stop at the side of the road, slap myself in the face (literally) and give myself a pep-talk to chase these stupid thoughts away. I'm currently thinking about getting back in the saddle and if I do, I know the first thing I'll do is book some sort of returning-rider safety/handling course. I don't ever want to feel on a bike again like I felt that day on that Harley... :)

So I’ve got my motorbike theory test in a couple weeks and I’ve been revising so much, never rode a bike before but I’ve had lessons in a car so I’m familiar with biting point but I had a bad experience with that so it’s kinda threw me off wanting to drive. I grew up loving and building bikes so I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner! Soon as I pass my theory I’m going on a 5 day course of a CBT, Mod1+2 and getting an A2 license as I’m 22

Size (physical size, not engine ) and weight play a huge part especially when beginning. Slow control is much harder on a heavy bike and that a huge part of where you’ll be (around town, roundabouts). A bike is only as fast as your wrist allows it to be. Even a sport bike can be driven at low speeds. Just take it handy. Don’t take huge risks. Keep safe distance between you and the vehicle in front. Coming to a stop takes a greater distance than you think you need.

My first bike was a ZX9R C2. It was TERRIFYING. In comparison the first car I drove after passing my test was an Audi RS4 (tame lol). I took the approach that you can die doing anything.. my uncle died from a random blood cot at age 40... so whatevers meant to be will be. I drove safe and wore all my gear and did as much as I could to be safe. But part of the lure of bikes is the danger! And lets be honest anything above 40/50mph... ur pretty much toast anyway 🤷‍♂️

It doesnt help when ktm ceo said that fully faired sports bikes r dangerous. And the TT doesnt help either there is calls for it to be cancelled due to ppl dying. I learn in parking lot doing basic skills so I get more comfortable. Women dont like it, all the compliments and positive attention are from other men when im on my bike never from women.

You were saying this last vid, can you link the ktm thing. Did he give thoughts on their 990RC? TT is brilliant, one of the last commercially backed expressions of freedom still going. Maybe the women just don't feel as comfortable to approach you about a bike, worried you might take it the wrong way. For sure lots of ladies into riding and or riders.

Yeah, It's like bodybuilding. You think you're gonna attract girls, and all you get is loads of compliments from other men and "I don't like big muscles" or "Motorbikes are dangerous" from the girls. Oh well, what do they know...
