    The memories of this rank. Nowhere you can find a push where all the attackers gets splatted by a brusher on a high ground; Nowhere else you see a 4 players standing on a tower in tower control and then learning why it is not a recomended strategy (again, a single brusher lol). I still remember the last one, I was one who was standing idle on the tower lol. Also, There could be players that don´t play clam bitz and then suddenly try it out. I am on S+ on zones and hardly S+0 on tower control, X rank soon to be downgraded on rainmaker; But I am C- on clam blitz just because I don´t play it. I played this mode a couple of times, and the last time I played It felt like a walk on the park, just moving around trolling other players, winning efortlessly for my teammates and I felt like I was abusing the system. The day will come when I rank up and I am curious to see how many ranks it will skip.

    Like a few others, I haven’t been in C rank for a long time- I’ve been circling in/out of S-to-low S+ for a while- and I’m not looking to go pro or get into the competitive scene fully. But a goal of mine is to reach X Rank at least one time in any of the modes just for the joy of it, and after stumbling on yer channel by chance I figured it wouldn’t be a bad shout to start off with a refresher of the basics. And I’m glad I did, not only because the advice is good + the presentation of it is *excellent* (your disposition is very friendly and inviting), but this episode in particular brought back some amusing memories: 00:37 My very first attempt at playing Ranked went so abysmally that I got unusually heated, and exclaimed to a friend that it wasn’t fun and I wouldn’t touch the modes again- or, at least, wouldn’t for a while until I was “better”, and then only rarely. That was back when I picked up the game in 2018- I forget when I picked Ranked back up, but it wasn’t that long into 2019, and the modes sunk their teeth into me so firmly that I almost only ever play Ranked. 😂 My performance in the last few Splatfests and especially the reruns was actively compromised by how little I’ve touched Turf War since. So much for “I am never touching Ranked again”, huh. 11:09 Not too proud to admit I made that exact mistake when I did jump back into Ranked and first gave Clam Blitz a try, and I cringe at the memory 😅 I was relatively confident I understood the rules of that mode without fully understanding them- I did of course catch on pretty quick, but man, the first minute and a bit of that match, oof.

    @@SquidSchool I actually binged through all of the How to Get Out Of series yesterday- and did find much of the info across the videos interesting! Daft as it is, the thing that stuck out the most as a revelation- and one I really should apply- was the idea of doing a couple of quick drills in the test area before each play session. One of the biggest barriers I’ve come up against in applying tips on games is that in the moment, I simply forget and default to muscle memory/instinct developed from just playing it- which, whilst I like to think I’m not terrible by any stretch, I know there are a lot of things I can improve on should I want to- and doing drills + actively practicing at the start of each session before even going into the lobby is the perfect way to get that knowledge to sink in. As mentioned, though I put a lot of hours into Splatoon 2, it’s by and large purely a bit of recreational fun in my downtime between work- hence why I’m in no real rush to get to X and am fairly lackadaisical in the way I play- but I will certainly try adopting practicing into my routine. I’d also like to say, whilst I’m here, that I really appreciated your affirmation of ones weapon choice not holding them back in the S+ video. I’ve always been if the mindset that tier lists for weapons/characters/classes etc. in PvP games are more guides then hard and fast rules, and I myself have been running Foil Flingza as my main for much of my time with the game (couldn’t tell you where it even is in the meta these days, but it’s certainly a tricky weapon to master- I certainly haven’t got there yet!), so I appreciate a competitive player flat out saying that it’s possible to achieve your goals, whatever they are, with the weapon you feel most comfortable using.

  • @SquidSchool

    @SquidSchool

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@DeconTheed92 I wouldn't say it's possible to achieve every goal with every weapon; Kiver's silver aerospray run never broke 2600 while his peaks with other weapons are in the 2800s. But X rank is definitely achievable if someone can push the weapon all the way to top 500. The Foil Flingza roller has always been lowkey solid; the weapon hasn't been touched much by patches. It's basically a splat roller that paints better and has more range with a better kit.

  • @SquidSchool

    Clam Blitz is a bit rough in the early ranks just because a lot of people choose to play without knowing the rules. Sometimes you can go as far as wiping the enemy team and opening the basket all on your own, but you still won't score more than that power clam because your team just doesn't realize they've got an opportunity to score or how to capitalize on it. It gets better.

    In my other Experience, you may even need to go out of Personal Expense just to Rank Up - that meaning with having to get a Pro Controller - or maybe even Need to Change Switch Models - example: “Switch Lite -> Regular Switch or OLED Switch” - transition to Handheld to Full TV View. But now… I can’t afford to Transition, I could’ve but other and newer Life Challenges Expenses just came up. And most of all: for those that want to Rank Up - they and you all have a Better Chance than I do (even against a BAD Rating and Grading/Rewarding System, but we won’t go there, and don’t need to now). As of this point onward - I am to play the game that makes me the happiest, me using the Board to Draw and all, and then became a support player for streamers. Ranked and True Competitive play - my road burned. For that, I’ve Retired (both by choice and by no choice at the same time). So, for those who want to get X Rank - do so by this Quote… “Player Discretion is Advised.”

    I definitely feel this and it is definitely a rage game for anyone who isn't above average. The only thing that's helped me reset sometimes is going to turf war and trying a totally different weapon class. I usually play nzap, but in splat 1 I was a roller main, so I switched to that for a bit. It made me stop playing as aggressively and take on more of an aggressive support role, which overall just helped me see things in battle I wouldn't have noticed otherwise, because it makes me play differently. Also, switching to another weapon class helps not to take the matches so seriously, because it's not your main. idk why but something about that makes it less stressful.

Or maybe it's just that this is a lobby for Clam Bli- OH LOOK IT _IS_ CLAM BLITZ." Of course, these kinds of outliers DO exist in the other 3 ranked modes as well. But, y'know... Solo queue Clam Blitz sucks.

    Having only played about 20-30hrs of splatoon 2, c rank is absolutely brutal for me rn in splatoon 3. I'll feel like I'm learning and growing but also every other match is against a team that is so far beyond everything else in rank c that they are basically playing a different game entirely. My guess is a lot of high rank people didn't transfer save files over or something because there is no way these people aren't splatoon vets. Edit: Anyone reading this having the same problem, play series not open. It makes a huge difference and actually feels like going against people of a similar skill. Open has the chance of going against coordinated teams. Series is solo only

    Just hopped into ranked a few days ago and I definitely feel this. I just couldn't stand getting destroyed in turf war anymore so I wanted to play with people like me (aka, pretty bad) but instead I'm just getting wailed on a little less instead. It feels like I'll have a few good games where I can _feel_ myself taking two steps forward, and then for the next 10+ games I've taken a step back and go back to being destroyed.

    @@doukzu I had a much better time in series. In open you get matches against teams of friends on voice chat, some way way above your rank. Think I've only had a few matches where one team won by a lot. So maybe give that a shot. I've been having a way better time since I made this comment.

    @@doukzu omg I'm so glad I could help! Literally same thing happened to me. And honestly b rank feels even more consistent with the matchmaking than c rank. C is the fuckin wild west. Especially so soon after release. A lot of experienced people didn't transfer their accounts and started fresh in c rank. My only problem with series is I feel like it moves me up way too fast haha, I wish I could play against only solo players but in open so I'm not rocketing up in rank before I'm ready. I think in open, someone c rank can be teamed up with friends of any rank, so that's why people tend to get steamrolled.

    Something that helps a lot is to stabilize your arms while you play. I rest my forearms on my thighs while I sit so I have that physical point of reference for where my hands are. That said, it's going to just feel weird for a while because it's a control scheme that isn't used in other games. You'll get it with practice, and when you do, you won't hit a skill ceiling that stick players hit and you'll be able to improve a lot more quickly.

    @@goddesscarrie767 well, depends on how existential you want to get. Multiverse theory? guaranteed to happen in at least one universe, we just happen to be living in it. Reality? well, it has happened, meaning it is 100%. It is impossible for us to have not seen it after we have both responded. Math? Well, there are too many humans to manually count, in an era where the internet is almost universal, on the most popular video site on the internet, with a finite amount of available content at the time of viewing (even if that finite amount is more than any single person could consume), on a channel that is so small that most views would be found late... I know i am not calculating it, but i still suspect the chances are higher than they might first appear. Just having some fun with the reply, not actually complaining. XD

    Well looking at this I've got multiple major issues that this really just tells me to NOT ever do Ranked because it'd just be infinite frustration and depression 1) I cannot use Motion Controls. I play Splatoon with the controllers docked and using motion controls just induces nausea very quickly to the point I feel like I'm going to be sick. The little controller attachment thing they gave with the Switch is good for use in stick aim but trying to use it for aim controls quickly piles up intense pain in my wrists. Not as bad as the Wiimote did but I'm not going to enjoy a game where I'm in physical pain playing it. 1b) I'm a -2 or -1.5 on the stick sensitivity as above that I'm just utterly unable to even semi-reliably hit even with pinpoint accuracy of the Splash-o-matic or even with the wide spread of the TriSloshers And I think this isn't really covered here but falls under "Poor Vision" I can't identify inklings reliably when they're on a same ink colored background. I'm not even talking about tracking ink trails through ink. It's that with many color combinations I simply struggle to pick up inklings with the colors like eyes struggle to focus on them. Not even sure if Color Lock will help Still at least now I know it's not even worth trying and just to live eternally in Turf War and throw enough matches at the wall to get Ruler title in Splatfest. After all trying to get out B- was just a measure of throwing enough matches at the wall and hoping the RNG let you through since most matches were either 30 second losses or long drag out wait for the clock to run out events. I still think they mess with your throwing between recon and actual play with Clam Blitz as even being on the damn bump and having the throw marker over the basket has always resulted in the throw going short.

    I'm not going to say it's not possible, because if I did I'd be wrong. In a similar way, it's possible for me to ask my friend if they want to hang out by running 12 miles to their house and knocking on their door. In a way, it would be pretty impressive and remarkable if I did it that way. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the easiest way to do it though. I stand by my belief that motion controls are the easiest way to reach a high level in the long run and that they make it possible to aim more quickly and precisely than using just the sticks. Because of that, if I'm going to start teaching a newer player what they should practice so they'll rise through the ranks, I'm going to tell them to play motion every time (unless maybe they get motion sickness from it or have a physical disability that makes it impossible).

    @sticks4382

    @@SquidSchool yeah I know that playing sticks isn't the best and I wasn't forced to play like this but here's the thing that kept me playing sticks : At first I was playing ssbu, at a decent level but got really bad habits, since I'm training with CPUs. So I decided to catch a break, and played mk8 in online, and I was pretty decent, but kinda dropped mk because being mariokarted can be one of the most frustrating things I have ever experienced in a video game. So I dropped my, and played splatoon. Which wasn't a total new experience at all because I already played the story mode. So I was going in my way, playing blob on level 15 in turf war, and tried ranked mode. This is where I thought oh boi, we're gonna be here for longer than I expected... Because I really enjoyed the game, and I was just rushing through ranks with my sploosh 7 until S rank, where things are getting tougher and where I decided to continue playing and saw that motions were better, but I wanted to make this like a challenge, not like a game that I play an that I drop. So I decided to stick with sticks. And it worked, but I had to tryhard because I lost way too many games during s+, so I considered actually playing motion, but it wasn't really for me. So in s+ I was just tryharding, and played weapons that I could play with sticks, which were luna/clash blaster, kensa/kensa dynamo roller, foil flingza, and sploosh 7, aerospray MG only on splat zones, and carried games all day (24 k/a record in s+). And after a journey of 9 months, I finally reached it, x in sz, x in tc, x in fartmaker( gosh I hated this mode ) and x in cb. Now I play ssbu, but still watch splatoon game play, because I find scrims very entertaining.

    This video did not help me at all: 1. Every time you lose in ranked, it punishes your points. This idea that, not caring about losing in ranked is bad, but getting angry if you lose in ranked is also bad, makes absolutely no sense. 2. There are tons of advanced things about specials that the game literally does not tell you about, and you didn't cover the specials at all besides "just use them right" 3. You didn't cover anything about gear, abilities, or main weapons. I was hoping this video would help me get better at ranked before I move on to Splatoon 3, but it did not.

  • @sylent1

    You know how long the video would be if he went in detail about all the weapons, subs and specials so you knew how to use them properly? If you want to know about a certain weapon or special, just look it up. I'm sure there are enough guides out there for you to learn about whatever weapon or sub or special you want to Also watch the other vids in this series, they have more helpful tips that this video doesnt give you. Gear n stuff doesn't matter until about s+, which I'm pretty sure he said in the video or future ones anyways. Also you can force yourself to not care so much about rank. Its just a game, and you should start seeing it that way, as I was very sensitive about my rank and whether I won or lost when I started playing ranked too. Hope this helped you.
