This is so well explained, thanks coach. I've always been amazed by this family of techniques -- ie, dropping the opponent backwards onto their butt without tripping a leg, it looks like magic when done in competition -- and I love this pinch headlock entry that you showed. I had a question -- if you're doing FS where tripping the leg is allowed, do you think the inside trip is mechanically superior for the average wrestler? Or would you say it just boils down to preference -- ie, a GR wrestler who is awesome at this technique probably doesn't need to learn the inside trip. I know it's subjective, just wanted to get your opinion.

Is hooking with the legs (inside and outside trips) a part of Greco-Roman? Greco-Roman seems more coordinated with MMA than freestyle/folkstyle due to the majority of time being in a more vertical posture for striking instead of bent over with arms extended waiting and looking for opportunities to shoot or ankle pick. Greco-Roman mat work also adds a great layer to BJJ in that it helps make any positional transition much more grinding and taxing on the opponent.

If you start this with double underhooks, you give your opponent more space to control their head and torso (which is negated by building this up with head pinch control). You should be fine if you start head pinch and manage to get double under-h smoothly without giving him time to defend.

So non-greco rules, do you add the inside trip to it?

Can you put your head on the other side? I'd wanna keep my grip and go straight into a body lock pass when landed but I'd want my hands not to get trapped under him. Is that possible.

Could this be used in folkstyle
