    you will want to apply kapton tape around the iFlash and the logic board. Basically doing a few loops and calling it good. also, is a great job of securing the SD card, Totally ESD safe btw. Otherwise the iflash is just kind of hanging out, unsecured and it will flap around a bit. Without wrapping the tape all of the way around the logic board and the iFlash, once you close the iPod & give it a healthy shake, you can feel the iflash wiggling around there. once you notice the iFlash jiggling inside the housing, you can’t ignore it. Anyways, I don’t mean to be that ‘umm actually’ guy - just trying to help a brother out. Otherwise, really excellent content. Well informed, focused, well paced & clearly the work of a proficient technician Keep it up, I love watching iPod KZread videos. There’s not enough out there ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻😝

    I noticed that, I later disassembled and put a tiny square of that stickgel tape in there behind the iFlash. I noticed that if you apply a little heat to that stuff it bonds up real nice, so 105C with the heatgun and it seemed happy. Probably not as smart as just using the kapton. I bet if you overdose that gel tape you'd trash the iFlash trying to get it out.

    I 100 percent agree with you about the Mini’s screen. It probably the best monochrome screen besides the 3rd Gen. I find these are the best iPods. Its small and compact, battery lasts for ages, easy to mod with flash storage, shell swaps, backlight mod, and even replacing the click wheel plastic.

    Thanks for this. Didn't think that the mbr thing would make a difference after multiple Linux format, but it was a game changer for failing iTunes resets on multiple cards. Was giving up, but it worked immediately after this. 🙏🏻 Bonus tip a strip of thin slidey plastic like a washed milk container made getting it Back in without fouling a piece of cake.

    Hi, will a samsung micro sd work with the ipod mini, ?

    I flashed moded 5 iPod minis and I would say get Samsung cards if you want the most storage. For a 256GB card, Samsung gives you 239GB shown in the iPod, SanDisk gives you 238GB, and non NAND flash manufacturer brands will likely only give you 233GB, including Lexar. That 5 more gigabytes are not that important to me, because the iPods cannot play or store losses(losses would be converted to mp3 when you sync it to the iPod). The best we could get, 320k MP3 files, are not likely gonna fill the full storage before hitting the 25000 sounds barrier.

    Actually iPods do support ALAC lossless codec, but the DAC isn't really good enough for it to be worth the trade off in data bloat in my opinion!

    check your hard drive ribbon for sure, not enough info to recommend anything else, aside from checking your cf adapters orientation. a lot of non iflash cf adapters have an sd card size limit as well.

    Oh and another thing, i bought a 5th gen 60gb that didnt turn on, tge I found out that one of the little bobbins on the side of the 30pin conector was missing, where can I find another onde to solder back in its place?

  • @spottedtango

    @spottedtango

    Жыл бұрын

    hey, thanks for your interest. Appreciate what you said about the video. in regards to your question depends on what kind of bobbin you're talking about. If it's a capacitor, you could replace it with any capacitor rated at a equal or higher voltage to what was there before with equal or higher capacitance within a certain range of tolerance, it should work. if it's a resistor, depending on its ohmage, you might be able to replace it with a wire, if it's for example, a zero ohm resistor. a higher resistance would require you to put in an equal resistor. Finally, if it's a fuse, any fuse can work or even a wire, but typically fuses blow for a reason, and are there for a reason. Best if you replace that with an equal replacement as well. if you're asking me how you can determine any of this information. Unfortunately, it would take another board with the missing component and a capacitor tester, or a multimeter with the ability to do so. Pretty much every multimeter can do everything else. Hopefully this helps you out. as for where to source your components, I typically buy up a bunch of dead pods off eBay to use as donors in lots, I try to buy them extremely cheaply, under $15US a board is a good goal.

    @@spottedtango Hey thanks for the reply! I eventually ordered another board and worked fine. BUT I still would like to repair that one, I think the missing component is an inductor, one of the two that sit on the oposite sides of the 30 pin conector. I found similar inductors on old portable batteries. The thing is that I don't know what ohmage it is and if they're compatible. They look similar but not identical. Thanks for the help if you have any more info would you please let me know! cheers

    @@thomasulrich3107 Inductors can be used for a lot of things. Most commonly they're used for bucking, step-up, or step-down converters for voltage, they're spec really matters there! signal filtering, not AS important. In most cases, sourcing a 1:1 replacement for electrical stuff is important. But Cap-a-sitors, there is some leeway as long as you're shooting overspec!

    @@spottedtango Hum, I found 2 around my house, one is taller and the other one is wider than the one on the board, they might not have the same amount of copper, they have less "turns" but the copper wire is visibly thicker. Should I try onde of those?

  • @spottedtango

    @spottedtango

    Жыл бұрын

    @@thomasulrich3107 I wouldn't. Again, inductors are *typically* about voltage conversion. if you pump the wrong voltage, especially one too high, no more pod.

    Why is fat32 so important? I use exfat on 2 ipods and work just fine.

  • @spottedtango

    @spottedtango

    3 ай бұрын

    you might think that but exFAT didn't exist when most iPods were made. I guarantee your iPods are formatted fat 32. Going through these motions just ensures that you get a proper MBR sector so that the file system plays nicely. Some models and storage media play nicer than others, and I'm trying to be as general as possible for maximum success chance.

    @@spottedtango Good to know, thanks. I have this 7th gen with ordered parts. I wanna make it fat with a 3000mah batt and 1tb. The plan is to never open it again. So i ll try fat32 and leave it like that

  • @spottedtango

    @spottedtango

    @nfsu22009 sure! Lss, when you restore an iPod, the disk is reformed into fat32, however if it's not been previously formatted fat32 with a normal MBR, it might fail the restore.

    @nfsu22009 if the iPod has an HDD it would've come from the factory with the proper partitioning information. This is exclusively for formatting SDXC.
