This is awesome, thanks for showing this.

I used Rockbox on 2 of my iRiver H10 20GB MP3 player back in 2006, and it was AMAZING!! I had different themes, different games including rockdoom which is a modded version of the original Doom and the controls were easy and the game was so much fun! They even had crazy visualizers which was really cool when listening to music. Battery life wasn't that good so I had to uninstall Rockbox and install the H10's original firmware which I loved more in the end. Still was really awesome and I would definitely recommend trying it out if you have a couple of old iPods or MP3 Players laying around or if you have a couple flash modded iPod or MP3 Players! Great video! Brings back so many memories! :)

Hey. If I want to use my iPod classic dual, do I need to add all music files twice? (Once via iTunes and once via drag&drop) to be received by either firmware? Or is one of the ways working for both?

ok what do you mean by "dual", is this a duel flash board or duel booting os? For the first one that shouldn't matter, the Ipod just sees one drive. If you're talking about duel booting os, then I think that it only works one way, rockbox can read songs that itunes puts on the ipod, but itunes can't read songe put there on rockbox.

I have a PC. My ipod was formatted for a Mac (my Mac is long gone). Of course my Mac ipod won't work with my PC itunes, will I be able to use it with Rockbox to recover all my songs? Thanks and great video!

If you don't back it up yes. sorry to inform you. it's not a biggie just move it back onto your computer back it up and thne move it back onto the device.

If I went out and bought another iPod mini and installed a 1tb SD card.. it could be filled with FLAC and still play fine you think?

Late reply but yes, I am able to play FLACs I ripped off Tidal just fine. I'm on a 5.5 Gen 512gb in an iFlash though.

Hi, I wanna do this on my ipod nano 2nd gen but how do i set it in disc mode? Cuz if i press menu and middle button at the same timewhile rockbox is installed it goes back to normal.

for disk mode you push the middle and play/pause buttons

Can I if i flashmod my Ipod mini leave the CF card/SD card as is or do i have to format it with the approbiate (fat 32 or somthing) software. I would want to buy me a ipod mini and flaschmod it but dont care about apple software at all. So is it possible to save myself the hassle of formatting the sd card and installing apple software or is there no other way?

Great instructional video. I installed Rockbox on my iPod 120GB I purchased new in 2006. It does not have a scratch on it. I installed a few themes. Rockbox looks pretty but it is so slow and laggy. I removed it and restored my iPod.

nice vid but I did not get it to work on my Mac, it keeps saying "due to a changed device path". I will try it on a windows pc and hopefully that will work

What year Mac do you have? Because I know Rockbox is not updated for the M1 Macs.

@@cobra727 i managed to get some updated info. Rockbox is on the player already, but when its plugged in the device mannager shows an issue. I tried uninstalling driver but no change. Have you had anything like this happen before?

I didn't try, but i think it is possible. The limitation happens don't cause the size the hd or ssd, but cause the RAM. When you have 128GB full of content, the OS loads a index of them into a database which is loaded into the RAM memory. More content make the database bigger and the RAM can't deal with that. I think that rockbox don't use a database index like stock OS, but just look up the content on hd or ssd it self, so to me sounds that can be possible Edit: I just remember that you can face a motherboard limitation to. If this happen there no way to increase the storage capacity over the limit

Good instructional video. But Why oh Why do you have to speak sooo quickly? When you show a movement on the pc eg extracting files, you've done it very quickly. I had to keep pausing before moving forward. It was easy to install though, but it's early days I'm finding it a wee bit difficult to navigate.

For me 5th gen is gone

Why did i trust a random youtuber? My ipod 5.5 already has rockbox on it. Then you say, its dual boot. So I press the menu and select, apple logo shows and i press hold and nothing. Its now stuck on the apple logo. Thanks for bricking my ipod. I've tried unplugging the battery and turn it on, which makes it go to the sad face.

Heart attack over, resat the sd card and plugged it into my pc and rockbox booted. In conclusion, not all ipods are dual boot. DONT LIE!

@@cobra727 I tried it again, press and hold menu and select. When apple logo shows (rebooting) flip the hold switch. I did that, and again it locks up on the apple logo.
