Today I fixed my dead Acer V3-571G, using your tutorials. I went whole hog and found the schematic and studied it. There was a B+ short to ground, hateful problem, found using ohmmeter. I hooked my bench power supply up, used the +5 max 5a and touched the 2nd MOSFET output (pins 5-8). I couldn't find the hot spot, so I sprayed the board with compressed air, upside down. This showed the hot spot. It was one of a set of 4 4.7Uf 25v caps, PC56 to be exact. I just removed it, and the board fired up find. While putting it all back together, I gave it a new bottom plastic case, since the hinge holes were pretty well broken, and a new keyboard surround. It looks great. It has the GT730M graphics, plus 16MB ran on 2 sticks, and the i7-3630QM processor. I put a Samsung Evo 850 1TB in, it is really fast now. A great performer, used it for graphics design and programming C++ Thanks for putting up all the really great videos. You helped me tremendously. A+++ much appreciated.

Great job man. I'm trying to do the same. Anyone know at 10:30 why he put the positive lead on the second pin from the right on the mosfet? Could he have placed it in any pin on either side of the mosfet?

Great practical troubleshooting video for laptop motherboards. Great combination of reasoning, deductive troubleshooting and understanding the basic component functions and overall schematic design approach. You can have electrical engineering education but to get this good at rapid troubleshooting and repair takes another set of skills both academic and a lot of applied learning in the lab with real problems to fix!

That was amazing! No schematic, no BS, just short the board and feel around for heat! Wow! I've got an acer that I bought in 2010 that stopped working 9 months after I bought it, I always guessed it was a voltage regulator, I think I will be working on my acer this weekend!

Wow! You are truly talented and I wish that I had the technical chops to do this as my Acer aspire v5 573 pg 7400 fried and the said it was the motherboard. Sadly my late hsuband and my life were on this laptop. They recovered some data. But not everything. I was enchanted by the entire video and I too have thrown laptops away. ! But the cost was prohibitive to replace the motherboard . If only there was someone like you where I live!

Just so happened that the mosfet you put in is a better mosfet than the one that was shorted. New = AON6414A, rated 30V, 30A, the one you took out MDU1511RH (schematic shows TPCA8030, rated 30V, 24A. One may wonder why the 24A mosfet shorted, but it did. Thanks for excellent presentation.

I need an advice, I have a same motherboard in a Packard Bell laptop and what is happening, I have a charging light and it comes on I have leds and then it goes on restarting loop every 6 seconds so I assume I have a good 19v rail and 3.3v because it's turning on? Tried cmos reset same thing. Also when I leave it working in loop cpu does get hot so I assume CPU is getting power? Could it be ene controller? Thanks for help and keep up a good work.
