    Thanks. We washed the first load of clothes in our new Samsung washer. When it went into the spin cycle, it bounced and shook severely. I quickly stopped it. I thought some clothes had gotten knotted together, so I carefully took them out and back in. No luck. After watching your video, I looked at the back and saw the shipping bolts still installed. I am a senior and struggled to get behind the washer to remove them. Once done, everything worked perfectly. Thanks to presenters like you who make many of our lives much better.

    Thank you for this video Ben. We bought a used set off Craigslist and when it went to the spin cycle the machine would shake violently. Great video, can you add information about how to take the front off to check the other two shocks?

  • @marci.5597
    @marci.5597 Жыл бұрын

    My experience: the shock was not "extremely difficult" to press in as you stated it should be - just a fair/moderate amount of resistance, so I thought it was bad. I purchased new shocks, and the new ones were just like the old ones, both of which worked fine. Open up the washer cabinet and shine a bright flashlight in there - look for any kind of grit/gravel/pebbles/debris, even just a tiny bit - I noticed a little bit as a result of the front-left concrete counterbalance in my washer cracking in half - less than 3 years old. Had to disassemble the front with instructions from another video to figure this out, which would also need to be done to replace the front shocks. Would up spending about $150 for a replacement counter balance and a specialized bolt that sheered off, and had to remove the sheared-off bolt and patch a hole in the plastic drum that was caused by this issue (used a soldering iron to re-melt some plastic).

Also doing the legwork as a tech to point out parts and tools which i know takes time. Thank you for taking the time to make make your extensive experience and knowledge available to us. Both technical videos like this one as well as industry related info like another I saw where you surveyed technicians providing numerical reliability and opinion based quality related data, processed down by you. This type of credible info is not easily found anywhere. Again, excellent and thank you!!. Well done. Hopefully I will be seeking out your advice on new purchases, (not too often), in the future and not as many focused on problem resolution. :) I know subscribing helps you recoup some of the "value" you provide. So Ben, how did you end up fixing that play? Did you just retightened and blue locktighted that holding bolt onto the motor? Please let us know. Personally, I had a recurring bad knocking-banging that occurred during the spin cycle. For me, the culprit was a broken bolt, one of those that hold the cement counter balancing ballast on the drum of my front load Samsung washer, model: WF45R6100AC/US. It's the 2nd time I have to replace it... So in my opinion, t's a design flaw, because the cement block has a section that hang loosely exerting some momentum force on that bolt because it extend without support toward its end. Anyway, it was cheap to replace that M8x1.25x 1.65 long bolt because this Samsung was easy to disassemble. I had to melt the plastic wrapping that block because it was slightly cracked by that bolt and was starting to decompose and leak powdered cement from all this shaking. I used a milk bottle to add melted plastic because it's made out of high density polyethylene. Thanks for your comprehensive troubleshooting hints.

    Thanks for the video! How can you tell if the shock absorbers have gone bad? I know you say it should be difficult to press them in, but how difficult exactly? Thank you for your videos. They are fabulous and super helpful. Currently our Samsung washer is ripped apart in our living room....and we are stumped. It all started because on small loads things are fine, but larger loads the machine wobbles profusely. The spider arm is intact but when we rotate the drum it does look like maybe there is a wobble in it. What's the chance we have a warped drum? Or bent shaft on the spider arm? There's nothing obvious. We are debating purchasing a new drum with spider arm...or just new spider arm. We did have a bolt shoot out that held the cement weights and sheared off another bolt. We fixed all that but thought maybe when that shaking occured it bent something...just not sure if that something would have been the drum.

    My washer has been getting worse over a year or so. Really violent lately and I find the machine moved a foot and twisted. Checked level and it was fine with no loose rocking. Springs are good, rear shocks seem fine, firm to move, didn't check the fronts(didn't remove the front panel), checked drum for movement and it seems fine. Ran a rinse and spin cycle and the drum was bouncing all over during the spin(still had top and back off). Didn't see any counterbalance dust or particles. Pulled the drain trap and there was rocks(I think) and rubber seal that I think is from the front drum seal. Maybe one of the front shocks is bad but have to tear more stuff apart for that. Maybe it's just time to get a new one since this one is from 2009. Follow up question for anyone, how much free movement can there be in the shocks? I'm going to assume none but both the front ones on my machine have about 3/4-1 inch of really free movement(stroke). Not loose or sloppy but they just slide easily and then stiffen up. And they are $70 each for a greased shaft with a plastic slider, no real shock absorbing unless it captures air.

    I had a Frigidaire front loader that I replaced the drum bearings on at one point. Later the spider assembly rotted into pieces and being unable to replace just the spider it was almost more to replace the whole drum to fix it than it was to just purchase a new washer. My understanding is some washers, depending on the manufacturer, you can replace just the spider without having to replace the whole drum.

    Hi Ben, Like I’ve been working on this LG front loader which keeps getting out of balance (while spinning and centrifugation). I’ve disabled the washing machine now for the third time and just can’t figure out what’s wrong. I’ve noticed that the drum isn’t aligned properly (as if it has sagged a bit) but I went through all checkpoints (spider bracket assembly is still intact, the bearings look good, no transport bolds, replaced the shock breakers, washer is levelled properly, the drum looks fine etc) and still every time I reassemble and let the washing program run, it starts shaking and doesn’t finish the washing of centrifuging cycle. I came across your video and was wondering about step 8 (7:53 minute) ''the spider bracket assembly was pushed back in to far''. Can’t this movement (tolerance) be explained because the stator plate has not removed? Doesn’t the stator plate actually holds the bracket assembly in place once the bold is fixed?! Like I’ve noticed I can move the bracket once I removed the stator plate, but this doesn’t surprise me as the bold (and stator plate) are removed so I can take out the inner drum. This is mind boggling me now for some days and I hope to be able to obtain some further explanation on this point as I don't understand it properly 😊 I really hope to hear from you! Best regards, Cris

    Starters I love your videos but I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my LG 3500. It's only like 3 years old. It has gotten very noisy and shaking while spinning. I replaced the struts. They were having a lot of free play in them but the machine still makes a lot of noise spinning but it is a bit smoother. I notice when I've done spinning a load the tub has a lot of tension to it when I try to spin it by hand. Any ideas anyone?

    The plastic casing AND the metal drum inside the casing are leaning backwards. The springs are in place. Could it be the shock absorbers? Or do you have another suggestion? Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for this video! I was able to diagnose the issue as the very last thing you show in the video, excess play in the bracket and bearing assembly. Do i need to replace the bearing or the spider gear?

    If your spider breaks and you decide to replace it, replace the shocks at the same time. More than likely they developed some play in them while the spider went.

    Hey Ben, you said in the video the problem was the play in the shaft and “it” had to be replaced. What did you replace. The inner drum, bearings, or spider?

    Would the failure show at the end of this video cause the gasket to be damaged at the front of the tub? I have a similar Samsung washer that is very noisy during spin and has ripped off chunks of gasket at the tub to gasket interface.

  • @michaelkulman7095
    @michaelkulman709510 ай бұрын

    Without removing anything you can usually tell if the spider is bad so I'd do that first. As the video says they cost about $150 and replacement is kind of involved and would usually only make sense if you did it yourself if you feel up to it... You may find other problems though so you may need other parts and regret having taken it on. If it's been bouncing around for some time you could have other damage and time and cost could go up... It's an unknown... A damaged tub is possible as one example. So consider the risk and reward here...

    My Samsung front loader ecobubble spins smooth and perfect when it's empty, and the drum turns just fine and round when i test it by hand, but makes a horrible banging noise when there are clothes being spun in it. Please help. I've leveled the legs, there are no shipping bolts in, cleaned the drainage trap, calibrated the machine, rearranged the load midspin, and now I'm at my wits end.

    I had a Samsung front loader set, the gas dryer ss drum seam split so I had to weld that and the spider on the washer corroded away and broke so I replaced that but it wasn't long before the front circuit board burnt out a major portion and my wife was tired of leaving the washer door ajar anyway so I just put the pair on craigslist for $50 since I figured someone may want the pedestals. I disclosed the issues but neglected to mention the relatively new spider, which may have added a bit of value. The guys that bought ‘em just wanted to create some sort of BBQ pit for a client. Didn’t make sense to me, but okay.

    No, because it required a bearing/bracket system which is beyond the nominal cost to repair it. It wouldn't show up until we ran it for about 6 loads, so it made for a good dummy unit to use/test for videos showing all the far more likely situations

    I continue to have a problem with the design of a 'front-loading washer'. It seems to me that the opportunity for leakage can be avoided by buying a 'top loading washer'. What are your thoughts on this subject? TIA.

    I fix appliances for a living in years and years ive only seen them leak from bad bearings or the door seal being cut by knives or crap left in pockets i see way more leaks from top load washers however front loaders are harder to work on

  • @bensappliancesandjunk

    @bensappliancesandjunk

    Жыл бұрын

    I see just as many leaks from frontloaders as top loaders. You have to clean the door gasket and make sure nasty build ups don't cause gaps in the doors. Otherwise leaking occurs from general failures in hoses, pumps, or dispensers and toploads have those too. What I worry about more are the machine killer fixes like bad bearings and anymore we see those more often on toploads than front loaders, IMHO
