already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). kzread.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

Was up near Lake George and a fellow got one hook of a treble stuck in his finger. I had just told my buddies about this episode of your show, so it was up to me to give it a shot. My one friend removed the treble from the crankbait, using a multi-tool to cut the split ring, and not the eye. I then made two lines up with loops. Another fisherman distracted the victim and "POP"!! out it came. He didn't even realize it was out! He was back fishing. Thanks again. Great show..

  • @ChadHooverFishing

I could have gotten it out a lot faster, but I was trying to get him to look away. I finally just went ahead and jerked it out. Besides, he wasn't really going anywhere..... :) He did do a great job and this little accident turned into a great opportunity to demonstrate the hook removal technique.

Basically, in this situation (which I've been in multiple times) I would push the hook point through, including the barb, and then cut the hook at the base of the treble and slide it out. Less painful and damaging. I went back to fishing both times.

We just finished another shoot for Kayak Bassin and I received several requests for a closer look at this technique. So, I used a treble and more visible line to demonstrate the technique on myself. We should have it up pretty soon. It was a lot more difficult that I expected to hook yourself and really get the hook buried. - Chad

Just wait till you have kids! My son plopped a fish in my lap, promptly hooked me in the thigh. My method was turn it through with pliars, real fast before i realized that it hurt, cut the barb then pull it out. I like this guy's technique better, only 1 hole and he saved the hook! Difficult to do yourself though.

I've only had one treble hook caught in my hand on the back near the base of my thumb (so far). I got a nearby grandfather and his grandson (young fellow), to help me get the fish off the hook. I took my angle cuts and cut the top of the hook from the lure. As I proceeded to grab the hook with my needle nose pliers and curl the hook point out from inside the skin, I looked over at the mans grandson, he was white as a sheet, thought he would faint. I snipped off the barb and pulled it out... ; >)

GoopgaGaming not with the short shank on a treble hook, then you have two wounds and potential places for infection and cutting a hook is a lot harder than it sounds and most people don't have anything with them to cut it even if they could. This tutorial is designed to show the option that is easiest to accomplish with what you have available.

I ended up having to force it through my skin and clip it lol wife was no help haha. I carry a heavy set of wire snippers just for this situation. I tried your way and that sucker was NOT gonna come out. The barb was grabbing too much meat.

Mono has lots of stretch and doubling it up does help with that. But if you have braid that's the best way to go because it has 0 stretch and all you have to worry about is the line breaking which is un likely.

I went to a doctor's office to get a hook out. He said you don't wanna do it this way because the barb can catch things and rip muscle or tendons on the way out. He said to push the hook through and pop it through the skin then cut the barb then the remaining part of the hook will just slide out without any issue.

Pushing the barb out is the correct way without risking tearing any tendon inside. Use ice to numb the area first, sanitize the hook too.

One more reason that I've done my best to eliminate all treble hooks from the kayak. Does that mean I'll never get hooked? Nope, but it reduces the odds. Do I miss some fish because I'm only using single hooks? Probably, but I still have a blast. Great video and a worthwhile technique to know!!

This happened to me in the middle of nowhere and after a few minutes of sitting there with a hook in my hand, I resolved that I had to push it all the way through my finger and cut the barb off. It took some balls to do it, but it worked. Healed in a few days.
