    I’m including the melee/phosphex build in my salamanders to help with bullying off of objectives. I needed more melee prowess, and it needs to perform more of the distraction-carnifex role to draw some firepower away from my elite units and vehicles

As for the rest i still have some weapons to spare since i already bought one cc and ranged levi as well. Claw and drill would be fitting for the BAs but i think i will go with the gun/claw combo on this one...

    I forgot about Rending ignoring Toughness values with its auto-wound. That's good stuff. I should have magnetized my Leviathan but feel fine about keeping it just a claw and a drill anyways. You can't really magnetize the arm weapons. The guns are just fine without them, friction's great at keeping my Rifleman Leviathan together. One year late, but I think the volkites are rated too low. Unless you are deep striking, there's a chance you are shooting nothing with your flamers the entire game, especially against shootier defensive armies what with the short short template and Levis being fat and slow. Compare 15 points for around 3 rounds of shooting 6 times (thats pretty much always gonna hit) versus 0 points for 0 shooting. I know which one I will pick.

  • @LordCrate-du8zm

    @LordCrate-du8zm

    4 ай бұрын

    @@jellydamgood Imo the Volkites are situational at best and wasteful investments at worst. Certain armies like Blood Angels and Imperial Fists just have flat out better versions of them (assault cannons) and ranged-only Leviathans will benefit a LOT from having two powerful flamethrowers to use on enemies attempting to close the distance. If you _want_ a close combat leviathan to take them then they're good enough, since the shooting will probably help it hold its own against range. But then again, why the fuck would you take it against the flamers, who are optimized for close range combat?

  • @jellydamgood

    @jellydamgood

    4 ай бұрын

    @@LordCrate-du8zm yea well, I'm not using the blessed legions with their fancy guns, nor is that the thing discussed here. And why will I take it over flamers? Because Levi dreads are fat asses that can't run and will get kited. 8 inchish flamers does not help with that, whereas a much longer ranged volkite allows you to chip away at enemy infantry. It's not that hard to kill an average of 2 Marines a turn with just the volkites alone, which already gives you back 20 points for your 15 points of investment in a single turn. While the nipple flamers will just sit there doing jackshit nothing for many turns while the fat dread gets kited. I'm not that great at math, but a 15 point investment that nets you 50-100 points in kills over a 0 point gun that gets you 20-40 points in kills seems better in every case. Of course you can invest 100+ points on dreadpods or dreadclaws instead, but then you run the risk of a bad deep strike and getting shot and assaulted before even doing anything. This is of course just my own experience punking flamer levis that ended up doing nothing because I kited them vs using my own volkite levis that actually caused enough of a distraction to force my enemies to divert resources against them, if you don't want to believe it, that's not my problem.
