♥ Hi, my name is Lori and my goal is to teach, inspire and live off the land in style by knitting my own clothes, creating essential survival items and living luxuriously warm, dyeing fibre using bright acid colours and occasionally plants, fungi, muck and mud.
I really struggled when I began dyeing fibre a few years ago and there were only a few basic tutorials. On this channel, I want to share with you everything I know so you can easily begin upgrading your craft by creating notable fibre art more quickly. From solid dyeing, colour combinations and conceptual ideas into notable creative work that is ready to repeat quickly using minimal tools and resources.

Thank you so much! Funnily enough I just completed this dye recipe for the Etsy shop! Now that I am reading your comment though and looking at the original photo of the dyed yarn, I really love the brightness! I toned down the colours for the new recipe for a more vintage look :)

This is just beautiful and so interesting. Does the acid keep it from running into each other? Exciting to open your own yarn shop!

The acid will cause the dye to bond to the fibre. The outcome of how the dye spreads or looks will be different depending on when you add the acid. And it’s completely up to the dyer. You could soak the yarn so that the dye adheres more quickly. You could let the dye sit in the pan with the yarn for some time, heat it up and then add the acid for a more blended look. You could even add extra water to the pan for an even more blended look. So many things you can do!

Hi. I have a question maybe you can help. I just finished carding and dying a whole sheep’s worth of fleece . Unfortunately all of my previous dying experience is dying roving. Anyway I basically ruined the fiber (I believe it’s called felted). The bat has little puffs in it and when I spin it it looks bad. So now I need to find something to do with all of this beautifully dyed fiber. I’ve watched several of your great videos just now. Do you think this “felted” roving will work out for felted wool projects like yours? I sure hope so!

😩 I’ve felted dyed roving so many times trying to figure out how to dye it properly. Now it’s in a box. I eventually figured it out…I should do a video. Anyway, I use it for felting projects. It can definitely be felted :) if not for the base, it can be used for decorative surface design. It sounds like your fibre has pre-felted… if you can still pull it apart that is helpful. You could make slippers or anything else!
