2 things that you forgot: 1. Brake pedal is your friend. Use it constantly with short, light touches to balance the car where you are unsure of your speed or your position on the track. 2. Rally has the case of survival compared to other motorsports. In track racing taking risks are not that punishing unless you crash, here most of the time you end up with a crash in rallying, fast speed shunts into a tree being the most annoying ones. Don't give your %100 all the time. Don't forget that you learn the track on the job. Always be gentle on the brakes and the gas pedal but don't forget to do your cool moves when needed :)

Some games, like the Dirt Rally games take a little longer to get into the rhythm, especially to synch up with the pace notes. The Co-driver is loud and clear, but sometimes I struggle to keep up with him, especially on twisting stages. Luckily the games are still hell of a lot of fun, and I really enjoy them. We've really come a long way from Colin Mcrae Rally 2.0 which was my first try at this type of games and when Dirt 4 came along, hearing Nicky Grist again was such a huge blast of nostalgia. I love these games, even if they're sometimes frustrating and hard to get used to certain car types. And also thanks for this video. I think I managed to learn a few new things.

Good video for beginners, hope that way more people will convert to rally driving because at least in my opinion, as a rally fanatic, I find it a way more complete and challenging motorsport than circuit driving, but there are many variables so they can't be compared I just wanted to add something on the left foot breaking part, it can be used even, expecialy on fwd cars with mechanical differential but sometimes it helps also with 4wd cars, under acceleration with the wheels still turning little breaking (I mean really little, no need to scrub speed) inside the corner while accelerating helps the differential to transfer the torque better, a little bit like electronic torque vectoring I don't know if dirt 2.0 simulates this but maybe rbr world or not even that, but serious driver and real life experience learnt me this little trick By the way nice video as always

I really wish we could tweak them to have an in-between of the simple and precise ones, because I never knew what the numbers for the straights meant, I thought he was calling out suggested speeds. I'd honestly rather he use seconds to describe the length of the straight, but oh well.

In rally, lines are not as important as circuit racing, in circuit racing it's relies on - track knowledge, car capabilities, your own capabilities and experience In rally you are more reliant on your own capabilities and experience, and you should be able to know the car well enough to drive fast, as for track knowledge, in rally your experience helps because you can imagine the road ahead but not 100% accurate

@@whotesamurai Yess I know, but other than that I think that there are other hard things on Tarmac aswell, for example that if you loose the rear end you will loose it way faster than on dirt because your front axle is pretty stable on the ground while in dirt or gravel the whole car is constantly moving around and the loss of grip isnt so abrupt.

If you want to further develop your RWD skills, in DiRT, drive the stratos or the BMW M3. Those cars don't have too much power and are more forgiving than well, GT4 cars.

Great Video! I'm just starting out with Logitech G29 without the shifter and handbrake. do we really need to have the handbrake and shifter? I'm having trouble with all the corners and if i can get away without the handbrake and shifter, i would saved quite a lot of money.

  • @viperconcept

yes of course! you need FFB on all racing games, rally included. FFB tells you the amount of grip you have on your tyres and the weight transfer.
