Yeah, I get it. I think it’s because when you’re right-handed, your wrist arcs in the way you need it to for the left eye but not for the right. It would ruin my theory if you’re left-handed though.

1:30 Cheetah have similar linings around their eyes and it helps them see when it’s sunny and bright. I’m not sure if this is the case for wolves but I’m just going to guess.

Yeah, tht is the case. Also helps them see at night, becaue black naturally absorbs light so it absorbs all unecessary light allowing wolves to focus on one specific area, and it directs all extra light into pupil/retina, to allow for clearer focus at night and during the day.

I love wolves so i tried to draw it and. . . It looked like it ran into 70 plates of glass and also got beat up with a broom but at least i tried

From what I've gathered, the black area around a wolf's eye is called their "sunglasses" for lack of a better term. It absorbs light and such to protect the wolf's eyes.

My mum "OMG honey it looks amazing" Me " it looks terrible"

OMG THIS IS AMAZING(BTW the black around they eyes protects the eye from the sun, and so it works in all the Snow that gets stuck in their fur or eyes)

Your videos help me a lot when I’m drawing! I kinda don’t use the whole vid though, I use it to get my bearings and put the features in the right places then I go look at some pictures of the animal I’m drawing and make mine unique!

the dark shade on the eye is kinda like the black lines on a cheetah. They block the sun from hurting their vision so they can see the moose , caribou, and elk. the eyebrows hold a string like whiskers. The whiskers send nerves to there brain

You are right to assume all wolves are different. Depending on the region where they are located. Different. The pack they are associated with - different. The reference pictures that you can accumulate show a similarity - but an individuality. That’s what make it great. Your animal drawings are a great base for a artist to expand upon. Thanks Mark - your obvious humility is well appreciated.

The videos you have made really impressed me. Also you have the patients to go through the whole process of drawing with someone else. So what I think would be a good job is a Art teacher 👍🏻

Thanks Mark, THIS is how a "How To" video should be done! Allowing budding artists to get the basics and the feel of proportion with the help of measurement and lots of guidelines. Don't worry about making videos longer as it would have shown in detail all the final shading and polishing.

Hes the best teacher out of all the other ones i see, the other ones are full time lapses and there like "do this" without good explanation

Hey mark crilley, I very much enjoyed your video, it was a perfect step by step and very easy to follow. You mentioned at the end that if we wanted a video that went into more detail about the shading of the fur, to let you know, and I would love that! I always find it a struggle to draw animals because although I can pencil in the features, it is the fur that truly brings animal drawings to life and it is a skill I haven't learned and I don't think it's very well represented on KZread art channels

Wolves have a special light-reflecting surface right behind their retinas called the tapetum lucidum that helps animals see better in the dark. When light enters the eye, it's supposed to hit a photoreceptor that transmits the information to the brain.

The black eyebrows are used to absorb the light away from the eyes, so that light will not be so intense.

I remember using this Video when I was in Juniour School (I’m now I’m my first year of college) and when I completed my wolf drawing- I was so pleased with it. I showed my headteacher the drawing and he showed it to everyone in the school Assembly. That is what convinced me to drawing wolves non stop until this very day. Thankyou. 😂

I think wolves have black rims around their eyes because it helps reflect light into their eyes, so that they can see better in the dark, it's called the tapetum lucidum. Super fun video!

I found this video when it was first published, i was still a kid during that period and I knew pretty much nothing about art but i liked to draw on my spare time. I have kept the drawing of the wolf i did based on this video. Now, 8 years after, i'm a full-grown adult and currently working as a tattoo artist after letting art to become my passion. What i'm trying to say is: Never give up folks, little me was disappointed with the outcome back then but now i look back at it and i feel proud of my improvement.

puginapartyhat majority of "lead" Pencils are made with graphite and clay Even your regular 2B school pencil. There are differences in quality depending on the brand. Faber Castell pencil is going to be better quality than the regular school pencil. and the difference can be due to the ratio of graphite to clay. so maybe you used a better quality pencil that gave you better result. Then there's charcoal pencil that is made with a different carbon but can give a very dark tone.

This was my first ever drawing from a tutorial and I remember I was really proud of my wolf and so were my family. Since they saw it, they never stopped pushing me when I said I couldn't draw something. I drew myself once. My mom saw and told me to draw her friend. I couldn't do and she said I will be able to. I slowly improved and all I draw now are portraits. I want to thank you for getting me to where I am now so thank you Mark Crilley. You're the reason I started drawing. Hello! I just want to say thanks for making an actual tutorial on how to draw a wolf! Most people will just make a time lapse of them drawing and call it a tutorial when really it doesn’t actually help people learn how to draw. This video helped me learn with the guidelines (though most people don’t like them) and how to draw all the shapes. Mine isn't finished yet, but to be honest...it is, without a doubt, the best thing I've ever done in my entire life. I can't hardly believe how well it's turning out. A million thank yous! I'm going to see if I can practice painting fur, or using colored pencils on it. I'd like to add some color to it and keep it as realistic as possible. My son bought my art supplies, and I'd love to send him this finished piece, if I don't screw it up!

@@layanabigelow127 Ah that is the same with me. I can’t draw what I see or what I imagine to see, instead my hands just draw some weird looking crap that looks ridiculously cool.

i almost cried my first time ever drawing a real wolf I'm so happy with they way it turned out i will make sure to tell all my friends to check out your channel your an artist with a great personality with quick easy animals thanks for spreading your talent :3.

Thank you so much for these wonderful videos. As I am working to learn the art of pencil drawing, I grow weary of the exercises and drills and drawing single still objects; and I dream of drawing some wonderful thing. So following along as you instruct -- and pausing the video very, very often to work and catch up -- gives me the taste of something more, that moment of drawing gratification. And along the way, I learn so much from you. How often I say, "oh, I see!" I must also say how much I enjoy the personality evident in your commentary. You make me smile while I learn. The thing around a wolf’s eye is called a tapetum lucidum that helps animals see better in the dark. When light enters the eye, it's supposed to hit a photoreceptor that transmits the information to the brain.

That was really cool! Great video, do I would have loved to see in normal speed how you did the rest. The fur is a big part of where I get frustrated throughout my drawings.

Thank you Mark for doing these videos for us to watch, learn, and enjoy! Even though I am an artist and have done a lot of airbrushing/painting I have found more pleasure with pencils lately. It helps to see what other artists do and gives me ideas on different projects. Like I say use others work for motivation and learning don't be a copycat artist because then it's not really original.

It would have been amazing if you could have posted the reference image(s) too! Nobody does it, and that is easily the best drawing tutorial I have seen in KZread
