I looked at the left and thought, "huh. It's not so bad." then I looked at the finished product at the right and thought. " Huh. My standards are really low."

Jeff DeLuca so sorry for your shepherd... I know it has been more than a year now, but loosing a dog is always very difficult, even more difficult than loosing a human sometimes... They’re always there for you and they don’t care about what people think of you or anything like that, they just love you and want to make you proud of them... people don’t seems to understand how difficult it is to loose a dog...

Kirsty Partridge Art I don't really like when it's shiny, I just can't help pressing. Actually, as I do more traditional art, I begin to press lighter, so I guess I'm going in the right direction. Also, never-ever thought of using that cotton stick for blending, I might try it out next time :)

@@amplebourne8255 You need drawing pencils or animation pencils with soft lead(B) or light shades (H). Softer is darker, comes of easier and lighter is harder composite but it keeps you from going dark quickly. If you are practiced, you can just straight up use a dark pencil lighly and gradually darken each pass.. No 2 pencils wont give you the same result. Hope it helps.

Same, I’m a decent noob drawer but fur I can just never get it right!
My problem (one of quite a few in truth) is that I keep the drawing too light and don't go dark enough with the heaver pencils. I'm so afraid of spoiling it. I suppose it's as much about building confidence as it is about building layers. Great video, thank you.
@MaryDraws
6 жыл бұрын
commit one drawing to going dark. make it something small and nothing you would be too upset about if you mess it up. maybe redraw something you've already done. do this one drawing to the side and do NOT let yourself feel bad about "messing up" because only learning can come from this exercise. good luck and have fun!

I bet you are, it's hard for us artists to notice our own progress. Compare a few works from various years. Try 6, 4, and 2 year old photos beside a recent one. You'll see many small or even maybe large changes! Keep working, precise art takes time. ❤️❤️

You can still use references and put it in your own style, for example I boldly outline my drawings because I like it more and it seems more cartoony which is what I love
@katerinaadriah
3 жыл бұрын
Use pieces of multiple references to create a single piece and work on developing “your style” instead of trying to copy each individual line. Look for what sticks out most to you if you don’t have a particular vision and then create your focus on those points.
I love watching your tutorials, however, this has me puzzled- you start with hard graphite and gradually get softer but Other (also very good) tutors always say to put darks in first as softer grades will not adhere to the harder, purer graphite. What paper did you use.
@lilliejones3328
4 жыл бұрын
I think thats mainly with layering charcoal ontop of graphite, as it won't blend and will just sit on top. Softer graphite pencils will blend nicely with harder graphite pencils if you're not pressing hard on the paper. She says to start light because it helps to get a good outline and layered effect, without smudging or having obvious erase lines if you make a mistake.
I didn't notice I did this mistake, but now yes! Good video.
Very helpful video. I enjoyed it.
I have a question: I Shaw you used another eraser. !!!! What kind of eraser was that that you used it was a little white thing. But what brand? I already use needed erasers. But I need something for finer details. Please let me know. May your day hold joy. ~Jill~

Ah I’ve always been too impatient to be good at fur
I surely use the don'ts for my ... usual semi-realistic art XD or when I'm messy and just not familiar with how to make hair. xd I did improve it with human hair, but animal is still a practice. I know it doesn't differ too much but for some reason, I need to work on it more. xd as in: don't be a lazy frick LOL
We have the same technique in drawing but your more knowledgeable. Thanks to your video, I learned something that will make my drawings more realistic. 👌👍
