Okay, so today we're going to go over how to do dumbbell hammer curls. Now there's different variations to this. You can do um together or one at a time. I personally like one at a time, cause you can really focus on it. Now as opposed to a regular curl, you're not gonna rotate your wrist up to the sky. Now notice in your regular curl, when you rotate you're really peaking out your bicep. So you're working a lot of the interior of the bicep. With a hammer curl, you're focusing more on the width of your bicep in your forearm. Okay. So that's the primary focus of the hammer curl. Now to do these, you'll start just like your regular dumbbell curls. Hands at your side, nice base. Shoulder width apart with your feet. Loose knees, not locked out. Elbows, not locked out. Nice soft elbow. Now as you come up, you can come in different directions. You can come straight up or you can come across your body. I love to come across the body just because you feel a little more on that bicep. But, to do this, it's very controlled movement. Squeeze. Come back down. Come up, very controlled movement. Squeeze. It's really important to get that squeeze and flex everything you got in there. Come back down controlled. Don't be throwing the weights around cuz it won't do anything for ya. Breathing, is very important during this exercise. As you come up, you're going to breath out. Squeeze, release, breath in. Come up, breath out, squeeze, breath in. Bad habits always happen with this exercise. you see guys throwin them up, elbows not locked in place. Keep your elbow right locked by your side. Come up, squeeze, come back down. You'll really feel it in your forearm and in the middle of your bicep if you're doing it right. Come up and down. Come up and down. That's your dumbbell hammer curl.

This was DOPE! Applaud you for being so chilled out about it and actually teaching rather than being a loud mouthed nob. Cool teacher man!

Does this guy have his own personal KZread page??? This guy knows what's up! I've seen tons of exercise videos and not one tells you how to maintain your posture while doing the exercise. Posture is extremely important to get the proper workout without hurting yourself and getting the best results!
Howcast workout tutorials are actually extremely educational
I like my hammer curls very concentrated, it really gives you that bicep burn. I do 5 Sets, 10 reps each arm, so 100 reps total, 50 reps right arm, 50 reps left arm. Doesn't really matter how much weight u do it with, as long as you feel a burn or type of soreness on your biceps, than you're actually doing something.

Very very informative and relaxed way of conveying the form. Thank you.
I was confused about this lift. i wasnt aware of the different variations of the hammer curl(across the body vs up and down). thanks for clearing that up.
Way of teaching is very nice. Finally got something informative. Thanks man keep it up.
I've been doing this workout with full 5gal Culligan Water Jugs for many months. The results are amazing.

This ended up being exactly what I wanted. kzread.infoUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 I get the flexibility of multiple dumbbells without taking up the space of a whole set. I have a very small spare room that these and a bench fit perfectly into. Like others mentioned the size of these are a little bigger/longer than traditional weights so they aren’t the perfect solution for everyone. However, if you're looking for a flexible and space saving design for a home workout I’d recommend these.

Gonna hit the gym today this definitely helped because for some reason just can’t do the cable version (I’ve realized I’ve been doing a bicep curl on the cable instead of a hammer curl this whole time 🤦🏽♀️).
thank you for this information. I would like more videos being shown by YOU.
I have a brachial plexus in my right shoulder and up until I saw your video I was unable to workout my biceps. After trying this just have to say thank you posting this.
Very simple and straight forward video
Life saver! I've been training for a month with a 20 kilo adjustable set and my muscles lean in, I heard hammer curls can fix that and well.... If those muscles are real then you are lucky or more likely, you are a professional body builder that knows his stuff! Thanks for this video. Also for anybody struggling to gain muscle I've found a balanced diet high in protein, fruits and carbs help a lot. This paired with medium weights (heavy will likely make you do less reps), plenty fluids and a day where you rest and do little exercise every week works best. I went from weak to lifting 5 kilo in 2 weeks, no joke.

I generally do my arms separate. I start with my weak arm and make sure I only do that many on the other side. This helps me even out any imbalances I might have.

@@zombcookie3897 You'll be surprised how fast you're weak arm catches up and at that point you can bring back the two armed exercises like the ez curl bar. The hard part is getting over your ego because you aren't doing as many on your strong arm.

@@riothero313 I got myself a tiny home gym just got myself an adjustable set of dumbbells (powerblock) they can go from 10-50lbs per dumbell. And I got myself a collapsible bench. But my left arm is the weaker one with my dominant arm being the strongest. I can do 2 arm workouts but it's just a little bit different than having like a barbell or a curl bar. Still works though
@riothero313

@@zombcookie3897 Absolutely, also a side benefit of using dumbbells is getting more of the small stabilizer muscles involved because you can't just lock your arms and rely on the big ones. It's a functional strength thing.

This is exactly what I need. I can't do a normal bicep curl because my right wrist/forearm can't turn that way. Hard to explain exactly. I can only do the hammer movement with the right side. And this method I really feel my bicep without hurting my wrist.

Thanks for the video! I have a question about this curl. Each time I bring the dumbbell up past the 90* angle, I feel a crack or pop in my elbow, but that sound doesn't come up when I do concentration curls, so the difference between these two is the way my wrist is rotated. What should I do? Thanks

@@Agent_Deko_ I still didn’t find an answer yet, but I just avoided the hammer curls instead. For compound movements like bench press I usually warm up with cardio and some stretching, followed by 5 set of incremental increase of weights to bring to my usual load, hope this helps
