Today we're going over how to do a standing reverse curl. Now with this I like to use the easy bar curl, which is the bar that has the zigzags. Now with this, your hands are not going to be super needed, meaning your palms are not going to be facing the sky. They're going to be pronated. Your palms are going to be down. The focus of this exercise is to your forearms. This is your brachioradialis, which is what the experts will call it. I like to call it the forearm. And with this exercise, it's performed your standard bar bell curl, only your hands are turned around. Okay? Always make sure you have a good base; knees are soft, elbows are soft. Never lock out a joint, it's bad for you, it could injure you. Coming up, you're going to come all the way up. Squeeze. Release all the way back down, controlled. Never swinging, never out of control with it, always in control; always concentrating on that muscle. That's the best way to get the best workout. Now as you're coming up, working against gravity, really squeeze here to get the most blood into that muscle. Release down, and relax. Breathing -- working against gravity, breathe out. Working with gravity, breathe in. Again, from the front, coming up; squeeze. Release back down. And you'll really start feeling it right in here. Again, that's the primary focus of this exercise, to work those forearms. Up, and release. And that's your standing barbell reverse curl.

    Except that it's only one PART of the forearm. You also have your finger flexors and extensors that make up a significant portion of muscle mass in the forearm, not to mention the bones and smaller muscles. Also, while the brachioradialis is a significant part of the forearm, it also attaches to the upper arm.

    Note: See his thumb placement, the thumbs are on top of the bar not wrapped around it. This is important because it helps to build grip strength.

    what I like more than anything is that he reiterates things like proper posture and proper lifting technique. much of my job requires stooping/bending over and lifting 10-50lbs at a time many times a day. I've started some light weight lifting to help me handle my job duties a bit better and the reiteration of proper lifting form is super helpful to me.

    Squeeze to get blood in your muscle; sounds bloody great. This muscle is void of oxygen and nutrition but some how I can still move it to squeeze it to get blood into it - there's not a single droplet of blood in there. It's actually necrotic tissue and is rotting off but all I have to do to save it 'is squeeze blood into it'.

    I do this exercise a lot. I do 65 lbs and 3 sets of 7. Can't say I've seen the best results but only been working out about 4 months. To me, it feels as if I feel stress on the bone and not necessarily the muscle when I'm doing my reps. Am I doing too much weight?

  • @pinnaclelifeperformance

    @pinnaclelifeperformance

    5 жыл бұрын

    Likely, yes. If you have only lifted for 4 months 3 sets of 7 may be too much on your joints yet, if you are doing that all the time. You need to build up strength in your tendons/ligaments/joint as well as muscle and often if you are new your muscle can do more than the joint can do safely. Stick in the 10-15 rep range with a weight you can go to failure at that and then work to below 10 reps. 10-15 reps is for muscle building aesthetics. Below 10 is more strength building in the muscle. But you need those joints to be ready to build the greater strength in the muscle or you will risk serious injury.
