It does take a bit of nerve. I used to give "invermectin" to my horses. Once I got the training, I was off. Saves $50 a pop. Another are the injections. The tricks are to never allow the animal see the needle and to bounce your hand on it's neck a couple times first: one, two, inject. Should do a video on that.

I had my quarter horse trained to take wormer without a halter or anything. I’d just walk out to the pasture and stick it in her mouth then give her a treat. No problem. I am a farrier so I have had many clients ask me to work their horses for them and were amazed about how easy I made it look. It’s all about the approach and being efficient. People who try to hold their horses down while wormer crack me up! What makes you think you can hold a horse still that is pulling away from you with pure force? Lmao! Anyway, great video; I hope it helps a lot of people have an easier time with worming.

There is an area in the lower jaw between the front teeth and the molars where no teeth grow, and that's where he sticks his finger to open the horse's mouth. That's where the bit go, if you ride on a bit. The front teeth cut off the grass when they graze, the interdental space is where the food can rest before going further back in the mouth, where the molars grind the food until it can be swallowed - this is what I've been taught. I hope it's correct! I think this interdental space is also known as "bar", but gladly like to be corrected if I'm wrong. Oh, how I wish my family also had horses!

Yes!!!! 🙌 I was taught that way of doing it back when I was 8 yrs old by our vet. It is SO much easier to use a syringe with the tubing on it, but having your other arm to brace yourself on really makes the difference - especially for those of us who are…well, let’s call it “vertically challenged” & having to deworm them standing on a straw bale or stool. Tbh, I’ve never quite figured out what it is they hate so much, the taste or just having us sticking something in their mouth. And yes - PLEASE watch where you’re putting your fingers - I’ve never done it (😬yet), but I’ve seen someone else get their fingers chomped down on and hoooboy…definitely not something you’d make the mistake of doing twice! (Or at least, I sure hope not lol).

Well, you consider that a horse can exert 500 psi in a single bite... For comparison, humans average 160 psi, dogs average 230-250 psi, tigers come in at 1,050 psi, and crocodiles top out at 3,700 psi. We're lucky they try and push things out with their tongue when they don't want something in their mouth, rather than biting it. 😅
