A friend with mules often gives them a treat of applesauce in a worming syringe. On worming day they get the paste followed quickly by another syringe full of applesauce.

I had no idea that they made a halter with a plug thing. Now I have to look it up! Why people think that would work I no idea. Great concept! I had a horse that wouod set back every. Single. Time. I tryed putting it in different food and treats. Nothing worked. I had to do something similar. I just took a few minutes to desensitize and it works.

I had to go to KZread videos to find help and it was a lot longer version than this and a lot of rubbing the syringe all over their head and face… but it did finally work when I put my finger in and squirted it in. It mostly worked… but having a draft I had to do the second one… and that didn’t go so well… some of it got on me and some got on her. 😅

Also how often do you worm? Like my older horses pass 20 I would worm once a month but change brand of wormers every month. Younger ones once or twice a year.

The fact that your mare is throwing her head up and backing away from you tells me you haven't trained her to calmly accept the deworming procedure . You're a big man, but what happens when a child or inexperienced person trys your way?

First of all she’s not my mare, she is here at my training facility to be helped. Second of all a child or an inexperienced person shouldn’t be administering oral type dewormers or in this case ulcer guard. I’m not a big man and plus horses are reacting to anything that is entering there mouth because of there nature and we just have to learn to work around that. Thank you!!

@@marknoelhorsemanshipnoelfa4739 I think they mean you used a horse easy to give a dose to. That its not that easy with a horse that fights it. The way I figure it if the horse is fighting you, you've already started on the wrong path.

Perhaps you could teach people about the importance of proper dosing, since you didn't mention the horse's weight or how to set the plunger to that figure. (I see that your plunger is set about 2/3 of the way up, which is good, because there's no way that cute little horse next to you weighs 1250 lbs. ) Seriously, though, the sheer ignorance surrounding the proper dosing of meds became blatantly obvious during the recent event which bears no-name allowable by YT. No need to add to the stupidity so many already possess.
