Airbox came up pretty good for a first go Richard, well done. With the stop starts, instead of running the end of your weld into the start of the previous weld to blend it like with a mig, start your new weld on top of the end of the previous weld When its pooling, one dab and go. It looked like you werent using a foot pedal for the tig welding. A Pedal makes alloy welding sooooo much easier once you get used to it. Also, if i fab something and it comes up pooh, i stitch the inside to keep the strength, knock any high spots off the welds/plate etc then go right over it with an orbital. Comes up mint and looks like it was all done in one piece. Also for big gaps, you can knock them in a bit with a plastic mallet (within reason). Once welded, no one will know its been massaged. I must say, it was pretty sweet to see an engineer have to deal with their own designs lol.

Great video, I'm on the opposite side of the fence to you. I'm a welder fabricator but know nothing about cars. My son has tasked me with building an air box for his Hilux. Now you have your weld table fab up a guide bar to prop your torch hand so you can set the height and slide along in the same plane as your weld. Also when your watching TV put a tig glove on and practice feeding tig wire with your left hand and try to eliminate restarts.

A couple of things, you can not have a straight shot to the filter as bugs will punch a hole in it. Next, you will need a nipple or one-way valve to let water out. Place some water in it while bolted to the frame it will show the lowest corner. Keep up the good work.

@@DesignedandBuilt no problem, a little experience, I'm a mechanical engineering student doing some internship work with an aeronautic welder/machinest. I've designed an ally tank for my boat and he was very adamant about not welding tabs to it. I think with that airbox as it's quite light, using a tab with a 90 degree bend that has a large flat section to weld flat to the box will result in alot less stress concentration and chance for fatigue failure. I can ask what he would recommend next time I see him
