//ABOUT THIS VIDEO//
Are you knitting a hat and can't figure out how to decrease and create the top? Well, it is simple because there are two ways to do it depending on how long you want the decrease portion to be for.your hat.
In this video I show you the steps to knit the top portion of the hat using straight needles. This method can be used for circular needles as well.
The calculations below show for 40, 90, and 110 stitches. Please adjust if you have different number of stitches. Note: it will be easier for you to use even number of stitches to allow symmetry.

    Yes, you can knit the hat in dk. The full hat instructions are not in this video. There are two other videos that show how to knit a hat. Check those but if you feel something is missing, I can create another....no worries!!

    Hi i just watched but count work out if the first hat was decreased in 6 rows or rounds and the 2nd hat decreased in 8 rows or rounds. My hat has 40 stitches and my gauge was 4 rounds and inch, ie 4 rows, so i need to decrease the last 2 inches of the hat over 8 rounds. Or i could decrease the hat in the last 1.5 inch in 6 round. My hat is going to be 8 inch long, 2 inch or 3 inch of ribbing, leaving the rest for the body. If i do 3 inch rib, let will leave me 5 inches in the body to knit, so should i knit 4 inches for the body and decrease the last inch if i do a 3 inch rib at the brim of the hat, any suggestions. Ps i am doing a k2, p2 brim. And straight knit for the body not stockinet. I am a newby and struggling on the decreasing. I have to reduce the 40stitches, but over 2 inch or 1 inch. Any advise?

    Hi, good job being able to calculate this. I would recommend decreasing in 2 inches because too quick decreasing makes it more pointy rather than roundish. The rib portion...less is better. Please do let me know if you have any more questions...will answer sooner.
