How To Declutter When You Feel Like A Failure | Monica Fay | TEDxSouthHowardAvenue

If you're feeling weighed down by clutter and struggling to keep up with daily tasks, it is easy to feel like a failure. Declutter expert and professional organizer Monica Fay reveals how our history, culture, and mental health can impact our relationship with possessions. With actionable tips and insights, Fay shows us how to break free from the shame and guilt of clutter and transform our cluttered space into a reflection of our true selves. Whether you're struggling with daily tasks or seeking deeper self-discovery, you can unlearn this behavior and get inspired to take control of your clutter and support yourself where you are in life now. Monica Fay is a Professional Organizer and a leading expert on the mental processes behind decluttering space and mind. She is an author, former magazine editor, and artist. Her work has been featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, Apartment Therapy, Better Homes & Gardens, Mantra Wellness Magazine, and iHeartRadio.
She is the Founder of Organizer Accelerator- a community and curriculum for thousands of professional organizers from over 70 countries.
Monica travels the world, meeting professional organizers in different countries to observe and learn how people from all walks of life deal with their belongings.
Her mission is to teach people to think differently about the connection between mental wellness and physical mess. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Before & afters are so important! Totally right that when we're in it, it's hard to see the progress.

I really like the encouraging tone. Just for feedback - I'm not hearing how to apply this to me. I'm not hearing how to think about what to keep or not keep. I'm just hearing simple tips like photos and timing ourselves. But the thought process to create change is missing. ?

“Planning” is what I said- sorry it was unclear, the microphone didn’t work during my talk so it’s not as professional & smooth of a sound as everyone else’s unfortunately. 😢
