Love the humour
This is how I was introduced into carving back in 2000. Golf balls.
😂 Doug, you are hilarious in your understated sense of humor! Seeing you and your buddy flee the park was funny! Love the creations 👍
I love your humor when you were talking about finding golf balls
I immediately thought trump in a golf cap. Haha. Thank you have been working and turning wood stone bone for ever but never had much luck with small carving till I watched your owl carving. Have been taking this time as a blessing and have made many small carvings lately.
Fascinating! I didn't realise they were now solid and like you many years ago (over 40) as an inquisitive child I carved into one of my Dad's golf balls and it was like wound elastic. I kept cutting and cutting until *BANG* it exploded. All this brown goo hot me in the face and over the walls of our dining room.
The straight delivery was hilarious.
Finally a sensible use for golf balls Love it
I remember cutting open golf balls and watching the rubber string unwind and make the ball jump around like crazy. Sometimes you would have a core that was filled with some unknown liquid which of course you chased your friends around with as you squirt who knows what at them. Good times🤣
I play golf but would never have thought to go this to a golf ball. You have talent my friend. God bless you too and your family. Stay safe♥️🇺🇸🌹
Think I should name myself, "Late to the Party, as usual!" Back in the '60's my late Grandfather (RIP) was an avid golfer. Every Sunday morn, rain or shine, just before Church. He was known to even go out in the cold winter of Michigan, if the snow wasn't up to his hips. Anyhow, I digress, he had what he called "River Balls" that he let my older brother & I "uncover" then...UNWIND! We had a blast!! Watching that odd inside jump & bounce as it unwound. Taking bets upon what color the bouncy ball underneath all the elastic would be! Now days, I see it's VERY different! What kind of medium do they use instead of the elastic & bouncy ball? Just curious. Love ALL your videos, takes the boredom out of my days. I'm sure your wife will be glad to get her precious egg basket back! (Beautiful, also!) Cheers! Late to the Party!
Another thought Doug! Many of the thrift stores have buckets of these for next to nothing; as long as they don't see this video. They would be a safer place to get the used golf balls. Just a thought; as you know some thoughts are better than others. Well worth a hundred thumbs up!
At first I thought this was not for me. Well. I was wrong. I love it. I bet you could do same with wood in a ball.
Chick hatching would be cool IMO . Great video !
Another fun video, thank you. And your story on how you got them cracked me up!
Doug you shown me new ideas with balls I normally play shotgun golf with them but novelty wears off after while shooting golf balls with shotgun really makes em fly too 🇮🇹👍🐾🦊🇺🇲
Love these videos!!! The guys yelling and screaming were the golfers lol
What fun! I am surprised at all the different colors. I replay a lot of your videos and this will be one fir sure. Thanjs again, Doug!
I have a golf ball carving book that lists all the makes of balls and how easy they are to carve. I'd never tried to do one but now you have inspired me to try. Thanks.
Without golf balls, we would have no idea what size hail was.
Thanks Doug 👍 Collecting and carving both good times Stay sane and safe 💞🕊️💞
Brought back memories from when I was a kid. Unrolling all that rubber band, it was fun. Then there were balls with cork around a little ball filled with a liquid, those weren’t fun. Good memories. Also there was a ball called a Super Ball, it bounce so high you couldn’t see it & you were lucky if you could find it as it bounced back down. Love it. Thanks for Sharing. 👍👍👍😊
I find tons of them for sale at yard sales. Usually don't pay more than 10 cents a piece. As for a golf course, look for the ponds and bring a garden rake. Might want to carry a golf bag with a few clubs in it so people will think you're actually playing and maybe your club went in and you're trying to retrieve it. Also, if there's a wooded area along the course, definitely take a walk through the woods. Most golfers won't even bother walking into the woods to find a golf ball.
I have it a bit easier than you on this adventure Doug since my backyard is the tenth hole of a golf course. I need not go looking for them as those angry guys you discussed are daily hitting them off of my house. If they land inside my fence they are mine as far as I am concerned. I will be giving this a try later today. Thanks as always for great vids and fun ideas. Be well!
that was cool, and never knew they were going to be all different colors inside.
Another great video, Doug! You should paint the hair and mustache gray, make him look like Sam Elliot! One of my favorite actors.
Your right, I would’ve never thought you could carve a golf ball. The last time I cut into one (about 50 yrs. ago) it was full of rubber bands and when I sliced them the damn golf ball exploded spewing rubber bands out of the ball. It was fun tho, did about 10 of them that way until I got my fill.
That looks like fun. I may have to dig in my golf bag tonight and give this a shot.
The funniest thing I’ve heard all day!!!! Thank you Doug for being you!
Just glanced at the thumbnail and thought it read ‘Goof Balls’.😊 These little guys are just the cutest little creations. Thank you so very much for sharing these friends with us. Hunkered down in California.
Great video Doug! Brought back old memories. I can remember back in the 1950s; finding some of these original balls and spending many hours unwinding the elastic to see what was really inside.

yes, after you unwound the elastic i seem to remember that there was a kinda little rubber ball that was filled with a liquid. but as you say it was around 1950/60.
Thank you for the great video. Your tutorials are always so inspiring. How you found and gathered the golf balls made me laugh out loud.
Great….do you have a Golf Ball tutorial? If not please consider one for us beginners. On this video you sped up after the “nose” and it was play catch-up for me as to what to do next. Anyway, love you humor, creativity and carving skills. Never tire of watching. Best, Chuck Leaf
Oh man too funny...that intro laughing out loud!! Thanks Doug
I love carving golf balls! That's how I started carving. If I can name drop...Jack Nichlaus has one I did for him.
Your work is on par with the best of them! So many puns possible, I think I will stop there! I remember the rubber band insides years ago. Surprised to see what they use now.
Great repurpose for old golf balls. Thanks.
Thank You Doug! This video was just what I needed to keep me going today. I may need to take a stroll around a grassy park today!
Hilarious! I remember doing that when I was a kid and couldn't figure out why they got so mad at us...
Videos like this are as helpful as tutorials. Tnx's
Doug, I have watched this video at least a dozen times and always find something I hadn't seen before. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
What a great idea Doug 😃
Incredible. I love all your work and sense of humor. Ty
Toujours inventif j'adore tanks Doug.
Very cool Doug! The different color center usually indicates a different compression of the ball for different swing speeds.

Doug, love your shows, it is called the DIAMETER of the golf ball
Always look forward to your videos! Thank you.
1:39, HILARIOUS Amigo, hilarious!
Awesome project Doug. Thank again for another great job.
It's about time! Great to see it. Boiling the ball makes skin soft.
Love your channel, you should try doing a solar system with the different colors!
Doug, fantastic video how-to. I haven't done one of these in years because the husking process drove me crazy. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
I remember the golf balls with the elastic layer around it. If you kept cutting you would reach a tiny ball. That’s all I remember.
Great idea about carving golf balls. As soon as I am free from lockdown, I'm going to look for golf balls to carve myself. I hope I don't get caught. LOL
Wow super cute!! When I was a kid I too remember elastic looking substance looking like it was round up into a ball.
That was awesome Doug! 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Hilarious, yet informative, thank you for sharing. Great for a Saturday afternoon :-)
Hi Doug I liked the golf ball humor I use a Dremel to cut my caps off and a quick run with a knife will takeoff the melted stuff and you’re right it’s fun just to open them and see what color is inside I also use hot glue and a golf tee between the cover and a Carving instead of screwing it right to though I Carving with a block of wood for a base sometimes I make the bass look like a golf green Great video thanks for sharing Al from Vermont
LOL, good comedy and you did it with a straight face! nice drills, i have the same kind. That is a good idea with the screw instead of hot glue
Very funny Doug; must remember to get to the hole early to beat the rush.
Good one Doug. It was good to see the change in a golf ball. I remember the endless bound rubber with a ball of what was supposed to be white lead or so I as told. They do come up a treat .I can see lots of old golf balls dying in the pursuit of a good result. I’ll try to stay away from those green areas with little holes and pimp dressed dudes ha ha😂. Thanks for the video . Stay safe and take it easy.
Cool project Doug thanks .
''hopefully you don`t have 40 year old balls´´....mine are 43 years old and just the thought of cutting my balls open gives me shivers. Also I think in the long run I will regret cutting my balls. I did play Pitch and Put as a 12 year old kid so 31 years old golfballs I will give a try...nice video.
I have some that are 72 yrs old. When I was a kid, I lived along a golf course. Used to go diving in the pond. That's a story for another day.
Thanks again Doug ! Always interesting, 👍
Nice job, that's a great little odds! Fun
Well doug you've just taken me a step into the future as I still thought they were wrapped in elastic bands & had a sack of shit in the middle 😂👌
Thanks Doug that was cool 👍... Arkansas Clyde 🇺🇸✌️
It’s like kinder surprise lol. Awesome dough .
Golf ball carving And it looks like one of The lorax Excellent imagination you have
A USGA standard golf ball should be 1.68” / 42.67mm, great video, I’m loving these carving video’s that you make.
hey doug alot of us have 40 year old balls for the men over 40 anyway lol have a good day and stay safe
I do these as great practice on faces. I'ld like to send you a pic of some of the ones i've carved. Great vid, Doug.
Awesome idea! Thank you!
Golf balls used to be miles of elastic wound around a wee bag of "paint". You could see why they were so expensive. These days they are a few pennies worth of plastic and 4 bucks of makers name. Best if you keep them safe Doug, those other guys would only lose them.
Doug first come served early bird catches a worm I’m going to try this too I’m always up for a challenge I found quite a few more than you. No clue what to do with em. My wild fox friend bought me some too now I know what I’m doing with em greetings from the uk 🇬🇧 🐾🦊
Thank you , Mr Doug .
I cut them on a lathe. It takes about five minutes to cut a dozen balls and gives a very smooth edge
I remember removing the covers off golf balls as a kid, slicing the rubber bands off in order to get to the solid ball in the center. As soon the video was over I was cutting into a golf ball and carving, my first thought was I really like this material. Doug can you still use the antiquing wax on them ?
Always informative and interesting, thank you!!!
Awesome Doug! A keep busy project to make! Thanks a bunch!!👌🌝👏
Awesome as allways
That was fun!!! 😂 Thanks for sharing! Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family.
I'm like u I remember the stringy rubber. I cut one open inside it was hard plastic I couldn't believe it. My husband will find them under power lines up on the hills or in the woods. I'm glad u didn't get mobbed by the crowd yelling at u for just gathering up a few balls 😅 hilarious
Great idea to carve Golf Balls! By the way, you have beautiful nature around the house!
@1:40 LOLOL Too funny!
Very cool!
Now Doug the golfers who are out will be keeping an eye out for you sneaking about with Fynn collecting their balls - Tut Tut!!
WOW THAT’S BEAUTIFUL
I thought the hard plastic would ruin my knives. Those r cute as heck doug thanks
Omg best thing ever hope your all well sending love from the UK xx

Cool project!
interesting concept Doug: Since I'm locked indoors, I'm sure theirs a few golf balls around here someplace to pass sometime away with. Probably in my dogs toy box, hopefully no teeth marks!! "LOL's" .... Excellent idea Doug, you keep inspiring me. Keep them coming, and stay safe.
