Its like after the 70s all hairdressers got amnesia and forgot what this cut was. Ive always loved a shag but no one knew how to do it anymore. I guess it morphed into the mullet and the technique was lost. So glad it's made a comeback.

All of this. I've always been better with a shag. Once when visiting a friend in NYC she took me to Sally Hershberger. Heaven. For a decade or two it seemed like she was the only one on the planet who could do it.

Thank you for saying that! I cut everyone's hair in a shag! Everyone wanted it alittle different. Then it morphed into a little longer cut called a "gypsy".

It’s true. My hairstylist used to love that I asked for this cut in high school and college bc I have curly hair. She started in the 70’s and gave the best razor cut shag cuts.

I got a wolf/shag haircut on Friday and I'm so in love with it. I was always scared of layering because I think I had very bland haircuts growing up, but I just can't stop messing with it and looking at it. It's so voluminous and fun. You can style it for more formal settings (I work in an office so I was a lil scared) but you can make it so much more fun and out there. Curl it, spike the ends out, raise the roots to make it that much bigger. Love it.

I'm doin it. I loved the first wolf cut and haven't had a styled cut in a really long time. Where I live if a stylist knows what you mean when you say I want a shag your lucky so this video will help greatly ty

Loved this one. Just so you know when you are showing the ends of the hair to show the cutting you don't have to move out of the way when you are wearing a darker shirt. It shows up better against that darker color of your shirt. Happy New Year. Hope you stay on here educating us all. I would love to see how to cut quite curly hair in a shag like Zendaya. Love that cut but they always look at me like I'm crazy to think they can do it. Oh!!! Great shirt by the way.

So I have a question (of course): My hair is fine but a lot of it, brown but scattered through with a lot of (sometimes wiry) grays (48 y/o), currently one length, and naturally wavy. Meaning, naturally wavy in that hard-to-control-but-won't-hold-a-curl sort of way. I'm dying to try both versions of this and so I'm torn. Which do you think would be better for my hair type? I feel the 2022 looks just a little too sleek to pull off with my hair texture. I feel like 2021 would be a lot more forgiving on a daily basis. What do you suggest?

when does disconnection start to look like breakage? is it just more intentional? feel like these always need to be styled or else they look a bit chaotic and damaged..

How do you choose the length on the first guide (back) and the second (side)? Are you just trying to keep the hair as long as possible? What if I do a shorter cut, how do I relate guide number one and two?

Does this style work on hair that’s on the thinner side?

I had hair down to my waist. I "thought" that I would give myself a longer version of the wolf cut. No one told me that you shouldn't do a wolf cut on crazy curly hair :( I wreaked my hair with this cut!!! Rats nest every morning and I spent hours trying to brush it out every time I took a shower. I cried when I finally decided to get a bob and let it grow back out! Now my hair is to my shoulders and I miss my long locks. PLEASE let me know how to grow it out fast!

Only ways to help hair growth are through 1) scalp stimulation (with a boar bristle brush and the bristles have been soaked in boiling hot water so that they soften up a bit) and 2) frequent haircuts. Go in every 6 weeks and ask them to take off just the split ends (16th of an inch or so). This will help the hair grow out healthy. Make sure you're using a good conditioner and look into a leave-in conditioner as well (apply it when you get out of the shower, leave it in all day). Avoid using heat tools (including hairdryer) and chemical services (coloring, perming, relaxing).

It works if hair is already different length each side. What if you have similar length across the head? As if it never was prepared

I’ve been cutting my hair like this for years..it’s very hard to find a stylist to do this technique..they are always scared of doing this and look like I’m crazy but then once it is done they are surprised to see the “illusion” of having fuller hair on top and effortless volume but I still struggle to find some one to cut my hair like this

It can be either, but as a hairdresser, I wouldn't be doing a DIY method, we have many techniques for creating adapted styles.

I haven't had short hair since 1992.. My hair is fine and thin.. Would a bob work for me?

I like both wolf cuts. However some people are still going to rock the 2021 that the 2022! The newer version is more rock chick than soft glam.. And the cut should suit the person wearing it and not let the style wear you. Just a thought but loving both 👍
