My mom tried to teach me how to crochet when I was a little girl. I mastered the single stitch, but never understood how to make a granny square. She passed away 10 years ago and I thought the tradition of baby blankets and afghans went with her. I stumbled on your video and you now have me cranking out granny squares and I can't stop! My mom would be so proud. Thank you so much. I look forward to continuing to learn other stitches from you. My mom's hobby feels like my own. 💕

She died about five years ago and I wanted to learn how to crochet so that I could feel more connected to her and I learned everything from this channel! Jayda is the best teacher!

I just started trying to crochet tonight and I looked about about 5 tutorials before getting to yours and I have to say yours is the only one I found actually helpful. Every one else goes so fast and I thank you so much for being overly repetitive because IT IS NEEDED!!!! I have spent hours crocheting and pausing, crochet and pause and Ive finally got the hang of it. Added this page to my favourites and liking it for easy return. You are a great teacher and I feel so proud of myself for being able to make a square and hopefully continue it on to make my first blanket. Much much MUCH appreciation, it wouldn't have been possible without this video.

I am so happy I found this video after trying four others. I just couldn't figure out which holes to go through and thought I was doing something wrong because my initial crochet looked circular. You even explained this. The slow and steady pace and the fact that the entire video covered the whole granny square really helped for someone who is self-learning from youtube videos like myself. Kudos to what sounded like your very patient husband who was awesome enough to record the whole process for you and did a fantastic job zooming the camera in when he needed to.

It's very difficult to get a diagnosis, but I (finally) found a doctor who believes me & is having me tested; this time HE asked ME, told me, "I think you have a major parasitic infection." D'YA THINK??!! Many Blessings to You and Your Family; I know how hard this is, I used to ban a hard-core hiker, & now can barely make it to the rest room...

This is the best site to learn granny squares. Every other sites I've been to says to do 3 sets of D.C In each corner. I found it to be very crowded and klutzy. Other sites say to go right to the center hole without doing a chain st. It's a big jump! I like your method best. I am, however, having a horrible time getting the right tension. I've watched a couple of sites recommending to hold the yarn in various position. I've tried them all and haven't been able to get the hang of it. Once in a while my stitch looks great with no gaps. I have no idea what I did! I have spent many, many all day marathons trying to get the right tension. Following your instructions my square came out very decent. I love the way it looks, despite that some of my stitches were kind of loose. I hope I can master the tension soon. I haven't really been able to enjoy working on my squares yet. Anybody have any good ideas for getting the right tension?

  • @JaydaInStitches

    @JaydaInStitches

    Жыл бұрын

hi Roberta! It's just practice...and believe it or not, ignoring the tension. If you focus on the stitches, on the pattern, on turning corners and counting shells etc. but ignore what your yarn-feeding hand is doing, it will literally figure out the best way to hold and feed your yarn on it's own! I know that sounds crazy, but with repeated action, our bodies figure out ways to do things more efficiently, and tendons and muscles adjust to new requirements. It's amazing! It just takes a little time and trust that it will work out...it always does 💗

Hi Jayda; I know that you have a lot of followers ie: friends but I want you to know that with ALL the video's that are on line to pick from, I didn't nor could I find comfort from anyone to teach me. Not to drag this out and bore you to sleep but my husband of 28 years died suddenly from a brain aneurysm on October 1, 2012. from that day forth I was unable to pick up a hook for the life of me, I had crocheted daily and like many you know made weddings gifts, baby shower gifts etc etc but that came to a grinding halt. Until I stumbled on your video. THANK YOU for allowing me to return to what I loved and cherished. The very first night I went to bed and I kept saying over & over I could hear you say " when you go to bed you will be saying " Chain Chain Chain..." And so it began. Know your kindness, gentle way of explaining and not treating many like second hand people. AGAIN gentle hugs to you and thanks for returning a craft which brought smiles to many especially myself since the death of my spouse. Your Hooker Friend for life; Colleen J. Schanz

I wanted a refresher tutorial on the granny square - it's been ages since I did it - as I'm putting a blanket together for my daughter. I LOVED how carefully you described everything and how slowly you went so we didn't feel stupid or were rushing to try to catch up. I can even begin to identify the components. I’m so proud of my first ever completed granny square and I am excited to learn more from you and make some little Christmas gifts for friends & family. Do you have any recs for what to watch next from your library of videos? ☺️🤍

I am so thankful for your clear instructions for granny squares. It was a really good video. I am 61 and am finally learning to crochet. Unfortunately I have no mom or aunt living that can teach me. Good instructors such as yourself on KZread have been my only teachers. I look forward to watching your other videos once I get good at granny squares.

Thank you Jayda for your instructions. The last time I tried to do a granny square was when I was working a few years ago before 2012 when the place closed up. My boss there showed a few of us at lunch time how to crochet. Have not tried since until now. The way you show it is really good, after I got going I thought back then & could not believe how it came back to me. Certainly not right now but later down I would love to do some little toys or dolls, I"ve seen a lot of cute ones out there, Thank you again! Janet

My kids have run off with mine, lol, and I know they're wearing out, but I sure wanted to make new ones for them. I was lost as a goose. I could only recall chain stitching and couldn't figure out the corners to save my life. My entire family will be grateful for your wonderful tutorial. I'm a knitter and got a bee in my bonnet about making a Granny Square Blanket as well as a top called the Water Clover Top shown in Pom Pom magazine. I was so desperate to get started on my square though that I asked around and borrowed a hook until mine arrive in the mail (everything was closed where I live). I just tried another video and while she took me through all of the motions of completing a square, she left out the explanation for all of it and my square ended up nice but it did seem like the pattern was broken a bit. It was one color so it hid it well. Now I'm doing different colors with your video and, wow, all of the pieces of information you give and the queue words has helped tremendously. You have a great teaching personality. I actually feel like a friendly person is sitting with me kindly coaching me through this. Thanks so much for a helpful video.

When I first learned, I literally made piles of them :) Putting them together is very easy (and you can do it however you want, there are NO rules) and I will do a quick video very soon about my favorite methods for assembling granny-ghans...I think maybe the Chibis might make another appearance too... *giggles*

I just want to thank you. Your videos are so wonderful. You go slow enough to help me learn and explain so well. So far I've made an giant basket for my yarn and now im making a blanket. Thank you!

I am a beginner at this, I watched your video on granny squares and made a lap blanket, I am donating it to a woman at the nursing home my daughter in law works at, I don't know who it will go to . I just wanted to put a smile on someone's face.

You knocked it out of park. Super great tutorial. Granny squares were the first thing I learned to make when I was 8. My great gramma taught all us girls how to crochet 🧶 but just the basics, can’t read a pattern and I have no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️ how to finish a project off. Now, up teen years later I’m trying again. I have a 2yo grandson who I want to make a blanket for. I bought so much stuff on Amazon including two books for beginners but trying to read what to do is harder than I thought. Books are going back to Amazon because the way you teach is so much easier!!! I’m a visual learner so this is perfect for me. Thank You 😊 officially a new subscriber!!

Thankyou, yours is the first, tutorial that helped. My Aunt, passed away this year, she taught me to knit, but not Crochet. I inherited my Grandmothers crochet tools, but never learnt to crochet

This is the only tutorial i've found that i can crochet along with the video. Everything is explained so well, and in more detail than others. It helps me learn to know why i'm doing something rather than just being told what to do. Thanks for the vid, great stuff XX

I’ve watched soooo many videos and made so many messed up granny squares. I love that you walk us through 3 full rows before speeding up, and even after speeding up you still talk us through it! It’s really helped me identify where I’ve been going wrong! So thank you from this newbie crocheter!
