I do all of these things, except the journalling. Recently, I've added a small gesture that I like very much. As soon as my feet hit the floor, I pause for a moment and acknowledge that I'm about to start a new day. I see that the whole day at this point is still ahead of me. At the end it will have been spent. It will be over. But here I am, right at the starting line. Usually this gives rise to a sense of gratitude, or feeling committed to make the most of the day. The whole thing takes five seconds, but it sets the tone for everything that follows.

I like this very much. I wake up and say "thank you." It puts me in a grateful mindset.
To date, this is the BEST description of "meditation": to be aware of your thoughts and get used to not reacting so itbecomes easier in the rest of your day. Previously the idea of meditation would anger me because people say "clear your mind" etc, which for me is 100% impossible. Thank you Tim for this description!
I get so much nonsense out during morning pages. Tara Brach will change your life. Tim is ALWAYS on target with all his advice. ❤❤❤
Love this. As Matthew Kelly says, “Our lives change when our habits change.”
@alicyr9631

Yes--would love to see you interview Matthew Kelly about this, Tim!
BTW- "Morning Pages" is from a great book, "The Artist's Way," by Julia Cameron. It contains lots of other great exercises to help you on your path of being an artist.
I totally understand the motivation for making one's bed upon arising. However, I've read that, if you make your bed immediately after waking up, you can trap moisture in which is a good environment for dust mites. So, I open my window and expose the unmade bed sheets to air and sunlight which is apparently like kryptonite for the mites. Then before leaving the house, I make my bed.

Yeah but mites are everywhere. Limited exposure to them is good for your immune system. It went unsaid but I'm sure this goes hand in hand with washing your sheets in hot water every week
I love the 5 Min Journal, just finished it. I also do the morning pages, which I love and got from Julia Cameron who wrote "The Artist Way". Gotta work on the meditation part. Great advice. Will try that. Thank you.
I also recommend people get a light alarm clock. I set mine to gradually get brighter over the course of an hour between 5:30am and 6:30am. It's much nicer (and more natural) to gradually wake up to light than to suddenly be jolted awake by a horrible sound. So, the latest I want to get out of bed is 6:30am, but I typically end up getting up somewhere between 6:00am and 6:15am. I then shave, meditate, exercise, then write in my journal whilst drinking my morning smoothie.
Start by putting your phone in airplane mode before you go to bed. You want to have a boot up system of your own rather than waking up to notifications. If you win the morning you win the day. 1. Waking up and making your bed. You accomplish one thing in the beginning of the day. Sets you up physiologically to have a productive day. 2. 10 -15 push ups to prime your nervous system. 3. Journaling (5 minute journal or morning pages) 4. Meditation 10-20 min (Headspace) BONUS: I would also include SMILING first thing when you wake up. Start the day in a positive way! :)
I've developed these habits and I've doing for one year the massive changed haa done in my life or I can say my totally life has been changed. The main and most important thing is gratitude journal this is amazing experience.
Man I just love Tim Ferriss he’s just so smart
I definitely agree on the "making your bed" idea and "external mess = internal mess" idea. I have been working from home for almost 20 years and keeping things in order helps to keep the clutter from taking over your mind!

How do you do it. Work at home that is.
Thank You! for the recommendation. That smile meditation is literally so good.
Interesting how you keep young and with a kind of peaceful vibe Tim, kind of rare to see that in people nowadays. Great tips, thx!
Very simple and logical. Now, practicing it routinely is the key! Thank you for this.
Thank You Tim Ferriss! You provide so much awesome value!
My recent morning routine: Making the bed, Working-Out, Plank for 1min, Breakfast, Meditation 10 min (Calm), Starting my Day . Still need to implement journaling and cold shower for a more optimal day.
I do a lot of this already! I learned from a book by another author about making your bed first and he also suggested doing a few minutes of Radio Taiso. I also meditate for about 5 minutes a day and it all these things do wonders. Only thing I don't do(that I used to do) is journal and only because I feel like it takes too much time. I was doing it for probably 30 minutes to an hour a day so maybe I just need to add it back in but in shorter time frames.
Thanks Tim, this is one of the most deep tips for morning routine, very strong advice. Thanks again
Thanks Tim! The morning is where you win the day!
Love the description of meditation being training to be able to be less emotionally reactive to negative situations
I Reading your book: work four hours for week. That's amazing! I'm feel happy to find you in KZread.
Wow! Thank you these tips are awesome. Look forward to implementing each and every one!
I have been trying the to maintain a similar one for years and my life on a day to day basis has completely changed for the better! Amazing.
Thank you Tim Ferriss! Now, my morning will be fresher!
if you win your morning, you win the day. I love the psychology behind making your bed.
Making my bed drives me crazy, so I very neatly and symmetrically fold my PJs (usually shorts and a tank) and place them on a chair or on my pillow. Gives me a bit of an artisan win in the morning and it's always nice to see your comfy clothes waiting for you when you get home.
External mess = internal mess. Except for very few, this is so true
Lovely. Thanks. Love al the great work you do. It has all be useful for me.
I follow something more simple: 1) Wake up 2) brush teeth 3) grab a glass of water 4) Journal while hydrating 5) Cook/eat breakfast 6) get dressed 7) head to work (pick up a coffee on the way) The key is to follow a standard protocol each morning that gets your mind in the zone quickly and with minimal effort.
No nonsense and great advice. Thanks!
So helpful especially during Covid time!
Killer info, as per usual! Dialing in the morning routine has had such an impact on my life I'm sure I can further optimize for even better results 😈👌

Thank you Tim! I must say that I discover Tara Brach last year and her talks and meditations are really great to sincronize ourselfs with us. Especially all the things you just need to accept and move on. I follow you for more than 2 decades allready and I allways find someting that put me on my track :) PS-I wonder if there's someone like you, as a woman? :)
Thank you 😊
for a morning routine it very will done
Great video, thanks for sharing this information,! Really helpful! Thanks a lot Tim !
"If you win the morning, then you win the day". Simple words but enough to motivate me to make the best out of my morning! Other advices : 1. Make your bed (the outcome is to make you feel like you had accomplished something) 2. 10-15 push ups (or basically a little exercise that can pump you up for the day) 3. Journalling 4. 10-20 minutes meditation (try to look it as if you are practicing to organize your immense amount of thoughts) Things to remember : Turning your phone to airplane mode before bed is clearly important so that you don't wake up to notifications. It's truly important to not be detracted at the beginning of the day if you want to win the day!
Thanks bro. Legit advice.
Thank you, Tim!
Good suggestions. Gratitude list is another possibility.
Thank you
My mom always tell us to make our beds as soon as we get up. I never knew it's benefits..I never listened to her being a lazy kid, but after watch a video by one guy named Jocko about making beds. I tried to make a bed-making as a habit...and indeed it has helped me alot. I'm grateful to my mom. I think in India it's a household habit to make our beds as soon as we get up.
That's a great tip, love it
Keep up the great content Tim.
You are very wise.
Great work I watch every video
My morning routine. Wait till the very last minute to get out of bed. Race to Dunkin’ Donuts, chug coffee while speeding to work, punch in late.. etc. beds a mess and stressed AF. Maybe it’s time for a change lol

thank you very much 🙏🏼
Sweet. Great tips Tim! My morning routine: wake up with the sun at 5:30ish in the summer. I've never used an alarm clock ever. Does sex count as exercise I don't know but if not, chug some water, stretch, bathroom dance, make bed, and release the windows from their coverings and check out the sky. Listen to the birds, watch the sun rise up to a hot pink and orange to erase the grey haze.
Thanks Tim
thank you timothy
That's great! I will try!

Man, I love you
a big fan of you sir!
For meditation I would also recommend Vishen Lakhiani’s Six Phase Meditation, he’s great and the meditation is rather short (17-18 min)! Thanks TIM!!
Tim, I really wish you put more videos out on KZread.
Key Takeaways: 1) Make Your Bed 2) Prime the Nervous system: cold shower, ice bath, ocean plunge, or 10-15 push-ups 3) Journaling 📒 4) Meditation 🧘♀️
Happy New Year Tim, Most Thanks for sharing your skills and everyday habit for successful people like you. I am Thai people. I begin my year today with your book "4 hour work week" (Translated in thai language.) . This book attracts me very much, which makes me come to see you here in youtube. I want to listen from the real you. I will follow your way. I will highly appreciate if you could give us English subtitle for me to practice listening English and to completely understand and get your message. I just adore you., Tim.
Great video!
Thank you Tim. Your selfless helping of others and especially me has transformed my life. Whatever you guide sticks to me. I will update in few months time if or rather when I had became a multi millionaire :), God be willing (I keep God/ Jesus first). Thank you Tim for being such a blessing and helping to unlock my potential.
Sounds like more than I’m ever going to do in one single day
This man is so smart.
Short circuit oncoming anger... I like it. Great advice
Your program is similar to MIRACLE MORNING book by Hal Elrod.. Thank You For a successful Tips.
I agree with the premise of the journaling tactic. For me it takes the form of notetaking and list-making. It is remarkable how effective analog list-making has been for me the night before I wake. I go to bed directed, lighter, anticipatory, and clear, rather than loaded and weighted by the gravity of randomness or the dread that can creep in. The list then helps compel me to achieve a set of plans in sequence and manage my energy and priorities in order. This would not be significant if I did not see what the doing nothing can evidence. In my most productive days I have been able to break down my first six hours into 15 minute activity intervals. I know that sounds obsessive, but it can be actually liberating, as we are programmable beings that do not naturally express efficiencies without solution sets or habituation. After that first six hours, improvisation itself seems more purposeful and rewarding--perhaps because I have primed myself and have already experienced mental acquity in execution of the early successes of the day, as you so aptly stated in the video. Thank you for the information and validation!
Just told Mom,BOOM we're ahead of the game!! Makin the bed department lol
Love that tree in your background--just saying.
The morning really does start the night before. If you get a deep calm sleep your morning will be infinitely better.
What changed my life is adding a fat and protein breakfast as early as possible (after my morning run). A lot of people can probably experiment with Intermittent Fasting and others, but if you're in doubt, have anxiety or focus issues, go safe. Eat something in the morning. Experiment from there.
Thanks! Although the old intro was better and it's nicer when people say hello at least
Synchronicity fuck yeah thank you💜💜💜
Where’s breakfast?!! 😂 Top priority for me! - Great tips!
Have you ever used a Heart Rate Variability (HRV) evaluation as part of your morning routine? If so, do you suggest any alterations to a morning routine or daily activities based on if the read is sympathetic or parasympathetic dominant?
Hey Tim, Great routine! I followed it earlier but at the moment my morning routine starts at 4am with a siren of a possible air attack from Russia. No push-ups, no meditation - just running down the stairs to the closest bomb shelter. Russia attacks peaceful citizens, ruins their homes and lives. Peaceful people are bombed with missiles and hrads. My parents and friends spend nights on the floor in shelter. You just cannot be productive in such circumstances - you just try to survive. Please, support Ukraine. Maybe Russian people who follow you will understand, we don't need to be saved by Russia. We are a peaceful and sovereign country that never attacked anyone. Thank you!
Hi Tim, What a great content. I really want to know how you make your journal, could you make a specific video about your journal? because that is the same issuer, that has been bothered me in a day when something bad happens during the day, then the rest will also be going bad, I'm losing my motivation to do my tasks & can't even concentrate because of anger, confusion, etc. Thanks
Response…able. 🤩
1)make ur bed 2)10-15 push up or something can boost ur body 3)journaling 4)meditation 10-20 minute
