I saw this at the Royal Tournament in Earls Court in the 80s. No video can really do justice to the physical nature of this exercise. The weight and mass of the gun is difficult to capture. It really stuck with me since I was a kid - an incredible sight.

Crikey yes that has just unlocked a childhood memory - am sure I saw it there too.

My brother was in the Field Gun Crew back in the 1970's, carrying the gun wheels on his shoulders on the ropes between the walls. Their (Devonport) crew won in the Royal Tournament that year. 🎉🇬🇧🥇

I wish the Royal Tournament was reinstated because it was fun to watch, I have no idea why it was stopped. Do the RN still man the mast and have a button boy stand on the top or has that fallen by the wayside? I can remember John Noakes from Blue Peter climbing the mast.

Loved watching this at earls Court and going down to pompey to watch them train. Family days on Whale Island was the best days out.

We done the security for the royal tournament in Earl’s Court 97 I think it was,these maniacs with missing digits etc are hardcore

We did this at school every year. Admittedly with a smaller gun.

Did I see the Royal Engineers have a team now?

They do mate. You can see them at the Birmingham International Tattoo in Feb as well.

Well clearly the way to win is to have a new field gun made, using carbon fibre for the carriage and titanium for the gun part, and some proper bearings to reduce friction on the wheels. You would have such a weight saving it's a no brainier.

That is NOT the field gun run. This was the high-speed version of the Queens funeral. Bring back mast manning. Bring back the proper gun run.

Unless you’ve tried Brickwoods, don’t knock it pal. I agree with you that it’s a sad loss, but us field gunners work dammed hard for this.

This is not the field gun run,bit watered down isn't.

I'm sure I saw this at Daedalus or at Navy Days in Pompey back in the 1970's/80's. I love all our traditions but it looks like everything is being watered down to non existence all for the sake of 'DEI'.
