Fantastic. Roar Britannia! Mum And Dad took me to Earls Court to see this back in 1965. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I did the real thing for Devonport in the 70's and happy to see these lads running. Smaller and lighter but good to see they use the names of the two ships that did the REAL, real thing; Powerful & Terrible

Top drawer isn't it Berkcam? I'm ex RN and didn't realise this college continues to do a lighter but accurate version. One or two ladies in there too - well done to them. I also think it's great they use the names of the original ships. A salute to you too Berkcam, field gunners were respected across the fleet 👍

Watched this 'ringside' as a small kid!. Absolutely amazing feat of strength and endurance. The antipatin from the crowd before the 'off' was amazing!. Criminal this piece of military heritage/history was cut!.

These are young college kids and they are doin' good. The whole run cannot be compared to to 'Command' event which was contested with much much heavier 12 pounder field guns. Everything here is either smaller (gun & limber) or already set in place (shear-legs, jackstay wire) .

Totally agree Berkam... our command team supports these guys and gals...however I wish it was not touted as the Legendary Field Gun run or The return of the Command field gun run...not these guys fault, it the advertising that raises expectations as reflected in the comments... MML..

I ran for Devonport (B crew) and still have a huge fondness for the 'battle' with those 12 pounders.

newholland2016 dave if I remember right this event portrays an actual event way back In the British military history.... Waterloo or balaclava or something... The guns in the race were the same kind of guns ... If you google it you will find the actual battle

It was the relief of Ladysmith during the Boer War in 1899... where the Royal Navy baled the Army out..the event was re-enacted back in London the next year and the fantastic event that was the Command Field Gun Race was born...unfortunately Blair's government ended it in 1999....anything advertised as the Legendary Field Gun run after 1999 is certainly not, just a re-enactment. www.royalnavy.mod.uk/our-organisation/where-we-are/training-establishments/hms-temeraire/rn-field-gun

All good, but it's still the baby guns. The real ones barrel alone weighed 900lbs!! With carriage and wheels, 1600lbs!! Prefer the vid from the Last Royal Tournament. World Record was set that year at 2 minutes 46 seconds. It's on youtube, find and watch.

@@garyscully2417 Respect to you, Sir. My dad was an RAF Aerial Erector. Late 70's/very early 80's he and his colleagues did the High-up rigging within Earls Court. Sadly, I never actually got to go to the Royal Tournament. Watching it on tv was a lowly second best. Always loved the Field Guns, QCS and "Battle" re-enactments. Good times.

I served 1974 - 1985. This is a joke. The real RN Field Gun crews must be appauled by this. Little boys and girls with toys.

Cameron, I ran for Devonport in 79, 84 and 90. Yes, the real thing is a lot different, a lot heavier, a lot faster...........but these are boys and girls......and Im not appalled by this in any way, shape or form. It is what it is, its great team building, and great fun for these kids. The Real Field Gun will never come back, its nice to see the kids doing this.........

From the entrance of the matelots - not a hint of the vim, vigour and sheer swank of the real field gun crew. Not a candle compared to the original. Watching them train at Sultan in the Summer of 76' was enough. Jenny in there too?? F**k my tall hat. The Andrew really has scraped the barrel. They may be young, the Ganges babies could have done this up Faith, Hope and Charity on their way to the Laundry ;-)

I came out of HMS Ganges in 76 and straight down to Sultan - watching the FGC in that Summer of 76 was a revelation. Admired and followed all the FGC till the bitter end. There must be some dripping at how its not even for girls now ;-) Take it easy Gary, Regards Aye Will
