    Wonder how many people haven't put the pick-up and hand piece in water. I'm glad I watched that just for that tip alone.

    If you leave a brush with oil based paint in water,does it ever dry? No it does not.

    Great video - super informative and helpful. Quick question, you mention always keeping your pickup and handle in the water after you are done, I assume this means when you are done for the day and plan on getting back to painting the next day or so. What steps do you take to protect your sprayer when you are done the job and plan on storing your sprayer?

    If you know your not going to use your gun for a few months you can use the conventional way with pump saver otherwise I have it in water continuously, just top up if its low. My gun in my truck wasn't used for 8 months recently, I pulled it out last week and it works fine . Just keep liquid inside and it can't dry out,

    Good vid. Do you take any special precautions when using metal spray cans? I have a Graco 490 PC Pro II and in the manual it shows a need to ground a metal bucket, but I don't know why. Have you ever had any problems using metal paint cans or clean out buckets?

  • @ThePa1nterhowto

    @ThePa1nterhowto

    The need to ground your machine is because of static spark, it only applys when you are using a flammable paint,thinner etc. I use a metal can when using these products so it can ground by itself, if I was in an enclosed area spraying oil based paints would be the biggest danger. Just use metal cans in this case,just like static caused by cars when you hop out sometimes

    @@ThePa1nterhowto Yes one of the paint factory's greatest nightmares. Worked at Dulux Paint factory for short period in the early 80's. New paint mixing hopper was set up and operator ended up in hospital for a short period, from resultant explosion. Whilst pouring a mineral tinting powder through metal grill. Outside workshop still marks in concrete from tanker explosion. From static electricity when connected coupling. That victim a lot worse off, but did survive thankfully.

    Hi Greg, thanks again for another great video. I have a question I hope you don't mind answering. I now have my GX19 and it looks to be a great little machine. I was just wondering if you have tried a FFLP 515 or 517 for ceiling or wall spraying and if so what was your opinion of those tips. I am keen to use one for spraying my ceiling and walls etc in the lounge if they do a good job but to be honest am mainly thinking of the lower pressure spraying to help out the GX19 i.e. not too much strain on it compared to spraying at higher pressure for an extended period which spraying of the ceiling will take. Having not used it yet there may not be any issues with spraying at any pressure so just looking at the options really. Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations since you have the same sprayer you are the man to ask :-) Thanks again and have a great day

    I've used the low pressure tips and they are good and could suit you but you spray gun will handle anything you want to do, I've used mine for multiple large ceilings ,undercoat, gloss, try your other tips first,I'm sure they will do the job

    @@ThePa1nterhowto Brilliant thanks Greg that was pretty much exactly the answer I was hoping for. only have a FFLP 208 which came free with the gun and the standard 515 it came with. I will practice on the garage ceiling first as that has never been painted or sealed for that matter so I guess a turps based sealer for the older unpainted gib. Do you see what I did there :-) thanks again Cheers

    Do you store your pump hose, prime hose, and spray gun in a bucket of water long term, like when you store it? Or do you only do that between spraying tasks on a given job?

    Can you spray oil base paint with the Graco X5? Is it a fire hazard?

  • @ThePa1nterhowto

    @ThePa1nterhowto

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes you can,as long as it is Mineral turps based, (White spirit) Thinner based paints like car paints are not suitable. The only thing I would do differently with oil based paint to reduce any possible fire risk is to earth the machine, this can be done by an earth strap on the metal parts but I do it by using a metal container for the paint. You will see when I spray oil based paints , I always use a metal 4 Litre container for the paint. Hope that helps

    I try to keep my equipment pretty clean for appearance, but it's not possible on a daily basis. Paint just flies everywhere in day to day work, you just give up on the brand new look. Every month I wipe down my sprayers real good with mineral spirits though.
